Israeli embassies on alert, air defenses adjusted in face of Iran threat

https://www.jpost.com/printarticle.aspx?id=606159

IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Aviv Kochavi and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have warned in recent days of the increased threat posed by the Iran.

Israel’s Air Force has adjusted its air defenses, and several Israeli embassies around the world have raised their alert level in light of increased tensions from Iran.

According to reports in Hebrew-language media, a series of adjustments were made to IAF air defense systems in light of the fear that Iran might try to carry out an attack using cruise missiles or suicide drones, similar to the October attack against Saudi Arabia.

IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Aviv Kochavi and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have warned in recent days of the increased threat posed by the Islamic Republic, which they say is getting bolder and more willing to respond to Israeli attacks on Iranian and Iranian-backed militias and infrastructure.

“Iran wants to develop precision-guided missiles that can hit any target in Israel within five to 10 meters: It’s doing it,” Netanyahu said Monday evening during an event at the Jewish Agency. “Iran wants to use Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Yemen as bases to attack Israel with statistical missiles and precision-guided missiles. That is a great, great danger.”

At the event, United States Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin added that the US is planning more sanctions to place on Iran in its “maximum pressure campaign.”

While Iran has several rockets which could reach Israeli territory, including the Khoramshahr 2 with a range of up to 2,000 kilometers, it is unclear if they transferred such missiles to Yemen.

According to a report in the online magazine Breaking Defense, Israel has recently upgraded the Barak-8ER system with an extended range to protect against cruise missiles, a land-based configuration of the long-range surface-to-air missile (LRSAM) or the Barak-8 naval air defense system.

Boaz Levy, Israel Aerospace Industries VP and general manager, was quoted in the report as saying that the upgraded version of the Barak-8ER system has enhanced anti-tactical ballistic missile capabilities and will be capable of protecting Israeli cities from cruise missiles.

Able to shoot down enemy aircraft at a range of 90 kilometers, the Barak-8ER is designed to defend against a myriad of short- to long-range airborne threats, such as incoming missiles, planes and drones at both low or high altitudes. In July, the Israeli military successfully tested the Barak-8, intercepting a small drone simulating an enemy aircraft.

The system integrates several advanced state-of-the-art systems, including a digital radar, a command and control system, tracking radar launchers, interceptors with advanced homing radio frequency (RF) seekers for targets with low radar cross sections and high maneuverability, data link and system-wide connectivity. It is also able to engage multiple targets simultaneously in severe saturation scenarios and can be operated in all types of weather.

In addition to the Barak-8ER, Israel has a comprehensive, protective umbrella able to counter the growing missile threats from its enemies, which includes the Iron Dome designed to shoot down short-range rockets; the Arrow (Arrow-2 and Arrow-3) system, which intercepts ballistic missiles outside of the Earth’s atmosphere; and the newly operational David’s Sling missile defense system, which is designed to intercept tactical ballistic missiles, medium- to long-range rockets, and cruise missiles fired at a range of between 40 km. to 300 km.

Israel continuously improves the technology behind the country’s anti-missile systems; all systems have gone through upgrades over the past few years.

Israel also has three Patriot system batteries and has used them against suspicious aerial vehicles, including shooting down drones and a Syrian Sukhoi fighter jet that infiltrated into Israel’s northern Golan Heights last year.

Tzvi Joffre contributed to this report.

Iran Sending Missiles to Yemen to Attack Israel, Netanyahu Warns
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warns United States Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin that Iran is continuing their aggression in the Middle East; Netanyahu warns that Tehran is now moving missiles to Yemen, enhancing their chances of attacking Israel, Mnuchin reveals intents to further sanction Iran.

In his meeting with United States Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin on Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that Tehran is now moving missiles to Yemen, which will further their capabilities to attack Israel.

While meeting with United States Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, Netanyahu warned, “Iran is seeking to develop new precision-guided munitions, missiles that can hit any target in the Middle East with a circumference of five to ten meters…They are developing this in Iran.” Further expounding on the threat, he added, “They want to place them in Iraq and in Syria, and to convert Lebanon’s arsenal of 130,000 imprecise rockets to precision-guided munitions…They seek also to develop that, and have already begun to put that in Yemen, with the goal of reaching Israel from there too.”

Netanyahu would continue to emphasize how serious of a threat Iran is while calling on the US for even more sanctions. US Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin was unwavering in his comments regarding the US ‘maximum pressure’ campaign, saying that the US plans to increase the already devastating economic sanctions that are in place. Mnuchin, in reference to the effects of these sanctions, addressed how they limit Iran’s resources and alter their priorities.

Netanyahu continued to warn, “We regard Iran as the biggest threat to peace stability and security (in the Middle East)…They have attacked Saudi Arabia, disrupted international maritime routes and over the past decade, have attacked and killed Americans in Afghanistan and elsewhere.”

I think Israel will have no problem in addressing Iran's threat, Iran's ballistic missile wont be able to get through Israel's BM defense

1. Barak-8ER (range=150km)
2. David Sling/PAAC-4 (range=300km)
3. Arrow 1/2/3 (range=200km to 2,400+km exoatmospheric)

Interesting developments!

Personally, I think this why the ISIS project was killed off. Because it has served its purpose and they won’t need proxy militias anymore for destabilization because the different players can engage each other now. Russia has sent (more?) troops to Syria…not mercenaries, you know, The Wagner group…but troops. I don’t think there could be a big war, just something small that could maybe collapse the markets. Who knows?

Yes very interesting developments indeed!
Considering Trump stirring the pot with his incredibly inflammatory remarks regarding the death (again) of Baghdadi, the potential Seattle FF and Halloween with all its occult ritual history and now this. I'd say something big is brewing.

Iran pours concrete for second Bushehr nuclear reactor
NOVEMBER 10, 2019
RADIO FREE EUROPE/RADIO LIBERTY

Iran started pouring concrete for a second nuclear reactor near its southern port of Bushehr in a project to expand the facility with the help of Russian engineering expertise and uranium, state TV and other Iranian media said on November 10.

Bushehr, which became the first civilian nuclear power plant in the Middle East when it came online with Russian technology in 2011, is monitored by the UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Tehran says the second reactor, and a planned third reactor, will each add in excess of 1,000 megawatts to the country’s power grid.

“Nuclear power provides reliable electricity…and each power plant saves us 11 million barrels of oil, or $660 million per year,” Ali Akbar Salehi, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, said at a televised ceremony at which mixing trucks poured concrete into the second reactor’s prepared base, according to Reuters.

The United States has spent years grudgingly accepting operation of the plant despite longstanding concerns about alleged Iranian efforts to acquire the capacity to build nuclear weapons.

Iranian officials have reportedly increased enrichment beyond levels set out in their 2015 nuclear deal with the United States and other world powers, they say, to feed the Bushehr plant.

President Donald Trump withdrew the United States from that deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in 2018 and has reimposed and strengthened unilateral economic and trade sanctions under a “maximum pressure” campaign targeting Iran.

Iranian officials have said they resumed enrichment of uranium at the Fordow nuclear facility on November 7 in their latest break with the terms of the JCPOA.

“It was not us who started breaking commitments, it was them who did not keep to their commitments and cannot accept the nuclear deal as a one-way road map,” Salehi said at the Bushehr ceremony, according to AP.

The 4-year-old JCPOA, which Russia, China, and European powers are still trying to salvage, is an effort to curb Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for international sanctions relief.

Iran long has maintained its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, although the IAEA has accused Tehran of past deception and obfuscation over its atomic activities.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman on November 10 dismissed claims by the United States and Israel over accusations of undeclared nuclear material at an undeclared site outside the Iranian capital.

An Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman on November 10 said Tehran “has made no decision yet on leaving” the international nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT) as it rolls back its JCPOA commitments, according to Iranian state Press TV.

Also on November 10, President Hassan Rohani announced the discovery of some 53 billion barrels’ worth of crude-oil deposits in southwest Iran that could boost the country’s reserves by about one-third.
