"I love the smell of secularism in the morning. It smells like ... victory." Somewhat relatedly, I wonder when Israel, at least the ultraorthodox, ultranationalist religious right, is going to appoint a woman to the Sanhedrin, or religious court which interprets the Torah of Moses, and permit women to pray and open Torah scrolls at the Western Wall? Any advances in Jewish women's right to pray with equality at the Western Wall, it appears to me, have been made by the Israeli secular courts overriding the Orthodox religious laws which reportedly prohibit such actions.
