Is hate good? Should we allow the censorship of hate speech?

1 Thessalonians 5:21 Test all things; hold fast what isgood.

Proverbs 3:12 For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; evenas a father the son in whom he delighteth.

God seems to think correcting hateful thoughts or actions is good and correction often times includes showing hate for what is though or done.

I have tested the notions of and concepts of hate and love and find both to be quite useful.

There is a time to love and a time to hate even in these days where Google and others who control the net are actively censoring us?

Should we allow ourselves to hate and speak against those things that deserve to be hated or should we allow the censors to muzzle us?

Are censors coming to take away our freedom of speech if it has a hate component?

"First they came for the Jews, but I did nothing because I'm not a Jew. Then they came for the socialists, but I did nothing because I'm not a socialist. Then they came for the Catholics, but I did nothing because I'm not a Catholic. Finally, they came for me, but by then there was no one left to help me." – Pastor Father Niemoller (1946)”

"Censorship reflects society's lack of confidence in itself. It is a hallmark of an authoritarian regime." - Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart

Does hate serve a good purpose for us?

For evil to grow, all good people who know what to hate need do is allow censorship and the end of freedom of speech.

Muslims are knee deep into censorship. Are they more insecure and have less confidence in their ideology than the rest of us?

Hate is a natural, valid emotion.

People try to be overly PC, and it has resulted in a generation of weak, self-centered, self-entitled SJWs who will struggle in the real world.

Unless a person is completely numb & oblivious to life around them, they will have hatred for something.

Hate is not inherently bad...a good example is sin. We should all hate sin.

Strange how we are on the same page sometimes, and sometimes not.

They say that God is Love.

Would you also say that God is Hate?

If we are in God's image, and as you say, hate is natural, which I agree with, then God would have as much hate as love in him. Right?

Hate isn't good. Useful sometimes, but that's cherry picking.

I tend to relate hateful thoughts to psychological projection. And it's one of the worst mind traps to fall into. I'm not saying to censor anything. I'm just saying that like 90% of hate should be completely ignored.
I think it is more than cherry picking.

Our biases, both positive and negative, are created by us to protect us. To ignore any of them would be counterproductive to survival.

If you love something, you should automatically hate whatever might jeopardise that which you love. Thos way is a part of our instincts and we should trust our instincts.

This topic has been on my mind a lot lately and I find it very interesting that today a good friend of mine who is a pastor was just posting about how hate can be useful..

1 John 2:15 comes to mind
New International Version
Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.

Of course just because we don’t love something doesn’t mean we hate it by default.
I agree that we are called by God to hate sin. Do we also hate the source of sin?
The current ruler of the world is evil.

Another thing that pops in to my head is a recovery slogan, “hate the addiction; love the addict”

Basically hate the sin, but love the sinner.

But that’s about all I have to say about that

Yours seems to be a conflicted view.

If your God is an artist and perfect creator, would you disrespect or hate his works?

You are of this world and your mind is what seeks God. Do you hate what draws you and makes you know God?

1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

Why did God make the world as is if it were not good, as he said it was in Genesis?

Compare your view to mine is and tell me which makes more sense.

Gnostic Christian Jesus said, "Those who seek should not stop seeking until they find. When they find, they will be disturbed. When they are disturbed, they will marvel, and will reign over all. [And after they have reigned they will rest.]"

"If those who attract you say, 'See, the Kingdom is in the sky,' then the birds of the sky will precede you.

If they say to you, 'It is under the earth,' then the fish of the sea will precede you.

Rather, the Kingdom of God is inside of you, and it is outside of you.

[Those who] become acquainted with [themselves] will find it; [and when you] become acquainted with yourselves, [you will understand that] it is you who are the sons of the living Father.

But if you will not know yourselves, you dwell in poverty and it is you who are that poverty."

As you can see from that quote, if we see God's kingdom all around us and inside of us, we cannot think that the world is anything but evolving perfection. Most just don't see it and live in poverty. Let me try to make you see the world the way I do.

Here is a mind exercise. Tell me what you see when you look around. The best that can possibly be or an ugly and imperfect world?

Candide.
"It is demonstrable that things cannot be otherwise than as they are; for as all things have been created for some end, they must necessarily be created for the best end.”

That means that we live in the best of all possible worlds, given all the conditions at hand and the history that got us here. That is an irrefutable statement given entropy and the anthropic principle.

------------

I agree that we are called by God to hate sin. Do we also hate the source of sin?
God created both. Should we treat one differently from the other?

I do not think so. At least not till the sinner repents and recognizes the evil he is doing.

The current ruler of the world is evil.
I agree.
God rules everything. Right?
Or do you think Satan has more power than God?

Basically hate the sin, but love the sinner.
If you get home some night and a rapist is on your wife, can you love him?

If you can, your wife should leave you.

Hatred of evil. Other than that, it is completely abominable and should be avoided.
I agree in the sense you mean and find it strange that people love evil Gods who would enslave us instead of free us.

I do not agree that we should hate evil in the sense that both positive love biases and hate biases are created in us at the same time Both biases are created for our benefit. It is good to hate that which would go against what we love. Trust your instincts.

That is part of why I am a Gnostic Christian. The Jesus I know frees us while Yahweh and Allah just want slaves.

What does a God need with slaves?

absolutely not.
i will say it again: hate speech is free speech. it "depends" on nothing. if you dont like offensive speech, you have the right to not listen to it.
one would be breaking natural law by censoring free speech, as this would be theft.
I agree.

I do have a caveat and do not mind some restrictions of the no yelling fire in a theatre type of law.

Free speech should be tied to harm as we should remain responsible for our actions.

Yup. I think its free speech as well. But I think there is a time and a place for them to vent/express themselves so its not carte blanche to act a fool in public, but within reasonable limits, people should be able to express what they feel, weather I agree with it or not.

Those who are full of hate and those full of love have a certain amount of "room" to exercise their free will to choose their path. There will come a time when we will have to stand by what we have become.

Matthew 13

The Parable of the Wheat and the Tares

24 Another parable He put forth to them, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; 25 but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way. 26 But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the tares also appeared. 27 So the servants of the owner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?’ 28 He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ The servants said to him, ‘Do you want us then to go and gather them up?’ 29 But he said, ‘No, lest while you gather up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.” ’ ”

Hates still not good man.

I don't know why anyone would think a person can't defend themselves without hate. It doesn't make sense. I'm not with that type of twisted justification. It's not necessary to hate your enemy. In fact, hating your enemies will only cloud your judgement. So hate is naturally counter productive. It's a weapon for the simple minded.
