I don't see the point in cloning if you're trying to get an exact replica of someone or some animal - it doesn't work that way. They've shown the mother's placenta alone can influence even physical outcomes in dogs for example, not to mention temperament, etc...so yeah...you never know exactly what you're gonna get. Not saying some nutty scientists aren't doing it illegally - I don't doubt there is all kinds of genetic manipulation happening God knows where unbeknownst to the public...but cloning? It's like getting a twin - and not even as good as a twin most of the time - at least from what I've seen in dogs.

Wouldn't that about the placenta also effect children born through surrogates?

The only reason I can see for cloning is some government science experiment. Maybe as a way to preserve some type of leader or something.
That would be my only guess. Sounds like a cheesy sci-fi plot.

That said, I do believe there are nutty scientist doing this stuff as we speak. It could be in the name of science, perhaps even studying dna/gene splice, human evolution etc. So many variables which more than likely has some unethical practices

The sheep's name was Dolly, and she lived a relatively normal life, but she got sick and died at the age of six years old. That was due to a lung infection that she and several other sheep at her farm caught and succumbed to. I am curious to know what happened to her six offspring. (Nobody mentions it anywhere in any articles.)

The crazy thing is, when they made the announcement about Dolly to the media, there was a "page 2" article on another scientific group doing the same with monkeys. And that was 1997. Over 20 years ago.

There is no way that one or more egotistical scientists did not proceed with these experiments. I would be more surprised if we didn't have human clones in the world than if we did. How many times have CTers postulated the existence of some off-the-wall technology, and then, one day out of the blue, some agency or insider publishes some official document, and whaddya know--it's true! From the Tuskeegee Experiments to LSD, the US govt. especially, has proven that it has little or no compunction when it comes to dong nasty things to it's own people--and those are citizens, with identities and families.

Just imagine how many babies it could make with the right equipment. We already know in vitro and "test tube" fertility procedures are viable and profitable. The only thing stopping clandestine (or occult, if you will) organizations or individuals from introducing cloned embryos is flimsy legislation and moral rectitude, which, we've already established, is iffy at best.

I have no substantial evidences or articles about this, sorry.
This is supposition.

Around 2015-16, I saw the movie Splice. Ugh.
(If you haven't seen it, two biological scientists, funded to splice and manipulate genes to create new commercially profitable living creatures, illegally use their own human DNA on one that wrecks havocs for the rest of the movie).

It's fictional, but one of the most plausible horror movies I've seen in a long time.
Dracula doesn't exist (at least not how he's stylized in in film), but I have met plenty of scientists and biologists that absolutely have the mindset of those two in the movie:
"Heyyy -- we're smart, we could actually DO this, and of course we can control any bad stuff.
It's only illegal because no one (like US!) has really tried it properly. Science SHOULD be advanced!
What's the worse that could happen?"

When I realized this, my conclusion is that the only reason this movie is fictional is because no one is willing to confess what they are actually doing in some of those labs. Jail time and firings are so inconvenient.

Reminds me of all those Jurassic Park, or Alien(s) movies. How many times on a planet with humans does it take one to realize recreating super predators is a bad idea?
Unless, of course, you somehow profit off of dead humans....
Splice wasn't suppose to be a predator either, but
"shoulda, coulda, woulda"s are usually what follows catastrophically bad decisions.
