In honor of the Day of the Land and the one year anniversary of the March of Return, I want to start a thread at VC to track and discuss positive developments related to the Palestinian people. We of the world community pray for justice in Palestine, and our conscience will never rest or be silent until a fair resolution to this inhumane situation is found. We must remain confident in the victory of good over evil!

What Have Palestinians Gained After a Year of Protests?

"...Putting the bloodshed to one side, the Palestinian factions and many observers argue that the protests have achieved a lot on the political, national and humanitarian levels. They have, for example, put the Palestinian issue back to the top of the regional and international agendas. The protesters have also undermined the implementation of the US “deal of the century”, which has not yet found the quiet and stable environment necessary for it to be unveiled.

Perhaps more than anything else, the protests have exposed the brutal reality of the Israeli occupation state, which claims to be a beacon of democratic values. Israel used lethal force against peaceful, unarmed protesters who, according to the UN and other international bodies, posed no danger whatsoever to its soldiers. The shocking death toll illustrated the fact that Israel has no respect for the right of the Palestinians to demonstrate in support of their legitimate right of return to their land.

In addition, the protests led to qualitative progress in the fractured relationship between the Palestinian resistance factions and a number of countries in the region, especially Egypt, which has been mediating a truce between the Palestinian resistance groups in Gaza and the Israeli government.

Palestinian resistance activists in the occupied West Bank have been inspired by what they have seen in Gaza, as have the millions of Palestinians in the refugee camps in neighboring states and in the wider diaspora. They have seen their right of return being discussed at the highest levels.

Regarding the national gains, the Great March of Return protests are the largest ever popular resistance action. The fact that they are now coordinated by the unified National Committee is significant. This body, which includes rival factions, has had an impact on all national activities organised by any of the Palestinian factions in the Gaza Strip. This unity was reflected in the formation of the Joint Control Room for the military wings of the factions, which has been taking decisions regarding resistance efforts.

On the humanitarian side, the protests have pushed Israel to ease its siege imposed on Gaza, even before any comprehensive understanding or truce has been agreed. In an effort to reduce or end the protests, Israel has allowed more electricity, paid for by Qatar, into the Gaza Strip; allowed Qatar to fund a job creation program for 13,000 unemployed graduates and workers in the enclave; increased the fishing zone; allowed more exports and imports; afforded monthly cash payments to over 10,000 poor families; and opened the Rafah Crossing for people and trade. This has had a very positive impact on the devastated Gaza economy.

The Great March of Return protests have, therefore, achieved much for the Palestinians in the still besieged territory. Moreover, they have also shown that when they are united, the people are capable of great things, making everyone much more optimistic about achieving their national goals."

The general sense in the Middle East is one of exasperation with the Palestinian issue. Israel is too prosperous and successful to ignore, and plenty of Arab nations want in. There is pressure on the Palestinians to accept a peace deal, at the risk of forever losing the chance, as the rest of that part of the world moves on.

The protesters have also undermined the implementation of the US “deal of the century”, which has not yet found the quiet and stable environment necessary for it to be unveiled.
How can anyone who is proud of undermining a peace deal they know nothing about pretend they want peace? Let's stop acting like Palestinian leaders -- the real enemy of the Palestinian people -- desire anything other than the death or expulsion of every Jew.

This is such hysterical baloney. All the buzzwords that we've been trained to respond to are there, but no facts are present.

the Israeli occupation state - There is no occupation. Gaza has been ethnically cleaned of Jews since 2005, and the West Bank is under control of the Palestinian Authority.

peaceful, unarmed protesters - As mythical as "the occupation". Hamas social media has been full of pictures and videos of them preparing weapons and bombs, and everyone knows these are nothing more than staged riots, stocked with Palestinian hostages, amongst whom are running the wolves of Hamas, who shoot at, throw grenades at, and otherwise attack the border with Israel. More than 80 percent of Palestinian casualties during these riots are publicly acknowledged to be militants belonging to Hamas, or some other Islamic terror group, and other casualties are hostages, bused in as cover for a mass terror operation.

legitimate right of return - There are in fact about 30,000 actual Palestinian refugees remaining from the 1948 war, and it's a certainty that none of them are taking part in the riots. The Palestinians who have legitimate claim to land that is now part of the state of Israel are most likely living on it as Israeli citizens. The millions of other Palestinian "refugees" are descendants of economic immigrants from the surrounding countries who came in response to the prosperity that began after Jewish immigrants began purchasing and developing land in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Jews didn't evict or supplant anyone when they came to Palestine, and it was only after the surrounding Arab nations attacked the new state of Israel that displaced Palestinians became an issue.

In addition, the protests led to qualitative progress in the fractured relationship between the Palestinian resistance factions and a number of countries in the region, especially Egypt, which has been mediating a truce between the Palestinian resistance groups in Gaza and the Israeli government.
Egypt is more fed up with the Palestinians than most, probably because they also share a border with Gaza. And while they aren't under regular rocket attack, like Israel is, there are tunnels carrying arms and terrorists from Gaza to Egypt, too. Accordingly, Egypt has told Hamas that even if Israel decided to assassinate every member of Hamas and occupy Gaza, Egypt wouldn't lift a finger to stop it.

Am I reading this wrong? Why would a peaceful march be under the control of the military?

On the humanitarian side, the protests have pushed Israel to ease its siege imposed on Gaza, even before any comprehensive understanding or truce has been agreed.
The "siege" is a blockade on war material, and the "siege" is also enforced by Egypt, but don't tell anyone. It's better for the narrative that we believe what's being kept out is fresh water and baby food. No one is starving in Gaza.

The economic situation in Gaza is almost entirely the result of the dedication of Palestinian leaders to war, and not peace. The billions and billions in aid the Palestinians have received has been spent on weapons, rockets, attack tunnels, payments to terrorists and villas in Qatar for their leaders. Again, the true enemy of the Palestinian people is their leaders.

By the way, the crossing at Rafah is between Gaza and Egypt. Israel has nothing whatsoever to do with whether it's open or closed, but the article makes it sound like it's Israel's fault it's been closed. Do you see how subtle their lies are?

I find it amusing you would foul up this thread with your malice. Just like the zionist right-wing leadership of Israel, your lies are obvious. You should stick to the threads about the rapture and end-time videos, the stuff you thrive on.

I've seen you ignore every article on the violence and rights violations against the Palestinians. You express glee that their factions are in-fighting. It doesn't matter how many are suffering, imprisoned, experimented on, killed, maimed, lacking clean water and electricity, subjected to a prison state, forced from their homes, their orchards burned... every conceivable evil act of terror it's obvious you either enjoy it or could care less.

Thankfully there is a growing movement worldwide who do care. Through the BDS initiative, activism, and social media the truth is slowly spreading. The Palestinians are/have been suffering, and they are in need of our support. The true people of Almighty God and the good citizens worldwide are speaking up. The attempt by universities and politicians to silence protest, along with the money spent on propaganda and the work of agents to disrupt activists- will come to naught. It doesn't matter how long the US and Israel attempt to defy world law and the UN Charter in their greed, a time will come. A Palestinian state is inevitable and we will never rest until then.

For obvious lies, they sure are hard to counter with facts, aren't they? That's why you guys always go with insults over debate.

Find me a fact-based and credible accusation against Israel, and I will join you in condemnation of any criminal behaviour. I promise.

You express glee that their factions are in-fighting.
Like the glee you feel when Israelis protest against Netanyahu? Except when people protest against leaders in Israel, they don't get arrested and tortured. Female journalists who speak the truth in Israel don't get their hands broken. I have nothing but ill will and confusion to wish on Hamas and the PLO, as they are the ones who refuse to let the Palestinians under their control exercise basic human rights. Why would you take the side of oppressors?

It doesn't matter how many are suffering, imprisoned, experimented on, killed, maimed, lacking clean water and electricity, subjected to a prison state, forced from their homes, their orchards burned... every conceivable evil act of terror it's obvious you either enjoy it or could care less.
Of course it matters when people are being oppressed, but lying about who is oppressing them isn't going to solve anything.

BDS is doomed to fail. People like you forget that Israel was born and thrived under boycott. In the early days, the surrounding Arab countries refused to trade with Israel, and it was extremely difficult and expensive to import or export anything. It wasn't until the 90's and the Oslo Accords that multinational companies like Pepsi and Ford began doing business with Israel, having been under threat of a backlash from Arab countries until that point.

These days, the majority of Israeli exports are of high-quality, differentiated goods, which means that most of what they export is unique and unable to be replaced by any other product, and is often necessary for manufacturing in other countries. Israel has made itself an irreplaceable source of in-demand computer hardware and software, medical devices, pharmaceuticals and advanced machinery, and they are tied with South Korea for investment in R&D as a percentage of GDP. The long and the short of it is that Israel has integrated itself into the global economy to the point where any damage done to Israel will result in damage to everyone. If people like you are serious, though, you need to log off and throw away all your devices, because there is no doubt they use Israeli tech.

A Palestinian state is inevitable and we will never rest until then.
A Palestinian state was offered to the Palestinian Arabs back when Israel was made the same offer. Israel took it, and built a nation. Rather than live alongside Jews, the Arabs instead chose what they have now. There have been around a half dozen offers of a state since 1948, and each time the Palestinians chose war instead.

I hope they get a state one day. But I know it won't be where Israel is now.
