I empathize with people...I just don’t empathize enough to enable someone to keep destroying their lives with addiction. I also know that I can’t stop anyone from doing anything that they choose, I can try to counsel them not to, but I can’t force anyone to stop and my counsel can’t force anyone to stop either.

I keep going back to drug addiction because I think its a big reason for homelessness and I also think alcohol plays a big part too in people being homeless. I think money mismanagement and trying to live above ones means are another reason people can find themselves as homeless. Those would be ways that people would be responsible for their own homelessness. Other things can compound those things such as losing a job (sometimes people lose their jobs due to something they did and sometimes not) or the economy with people being priced out of rent and mortgages.

Though I have to say, that I think its easier for family to take you in if you’ve lost a job or can’t afford a place to live then if you are addicted anyway. Addicts are hard to live with due to their lying and stealing and that’s why they can find themselves homeless.
You realize some people have no family or their whole family is no better a position then them?

I read somewhere before about the fall of the Roman Empire (I can't remember who said/wrote it) but the gist of it was the Empire collapsed because 2 many people were living off the government and the homelessness & poverty put such a huge strain on its economy the whole Empire fell & went up in flames. I think it's happening again... hmmm

Over extended military. I suggest that you screen your sources for potential personal conflicts of interests.

"Socialism is the Big Lie of the twentieth century. While it promised prosperity, equality, and security, it delivered poverty, misery, and tyranny. Equality was achieved only in the sense that everyone was equal in his or her misery.

In the same way that a Ponzi scheme or chain letter initially succeeds but eventually collapses, socialism may show early signs of success. But any accomplishments quickly fade as the fundamental deficiencies of central planning emerge. It is the initial illusion of success that gives government intervention its pernicious, seductive appeal. In the long run, socialism has always proven to be a formula for tyranny and misery.

A pyramid scheme is ultimately unsustainable because it is based on faulty principles. Likewise, collectivism is unsustainable in the long run because it is a flawed theory. Socialism does not work because it is not consistent with fundamental principles of human behavior. The failure of socialism in countries around the world can be traced to one critical defect: it is a system that ignores incentives.

The temptress of socialism is constantly luring us with the offer: “give up a little of your freedom and I will give you a little more security.” As the experience of this century has demonstrated, the bargain is tempting but never pays off. We end up losing both our freedom and our security."

A leprosy outbreak could soon hit homeless populations in the US, a doctor has warned.

Dr Marc Siegel, of New York University's Langone Health, fears it is just a 'matter of time' before the bacterial disease strikes.

He pointed to Los Angeles County as being particularly at risk, with almost 60,000 people sleeping rough in the area.

Although leprosy is not particularly contagious, the combination of poor hygiene, a lack of shelter and inaccessible medical treatment among the homeless creates a 'perfect cauldron' for the disease, Dr Siegel said.

marijuana was dangerous and proscribed by the government... until it was legalized when the corporations could make money from it-- then it became safe.
You mean when the government could make money from it, it was made legal.

homeless ppl are only geared towards drug addicts, the shelters are their homes. they have no intentions of moving out of the shelter even if they are secured a spot. they are drug addicts, the shelters are their homes. they have no intentions of moving out of the shelter even if they are secured a spot. leave them be.
The problem is they don’t live in shelters but on sidewalks in front of businesses where they bring their possessions and make the streets filthy with their stuff. It’s a big problem because it has been allowed to go to far.

He's a neat little tidbits.

There are as many as five vacant houses for every homeless person in America. The world, in its current state, produces enough food to feel 10 billion people. Our current population is about 7.5 billion. Do we really have a homeless problem? Or a greed problem?

Greed about what? You have to pay to live somewhere...that’s life. You have to work to eat..that’s life. Not many people will give you a free place to stay or free food just for showing up especially while they are busy working.

...You know what greed is, right?

Homeless is the cause of human greed. Starvation is. We produce enough no one had to suffer and there's enough places where everyone (at least in America) can have a roof over their head. But not everyone does... Because the bank's investment is worth more that a human life.

How is the bank’s investment greed? If you are going to borrow money, you also need to pay it back. If you were the bank, wouldn’t you want your investment paid back? You can’t go around giving houses away since you also need to make money to live.

When people are just handed things, they stop trying themselves so in the end, its not a good thing to just give to people without them doing something for it.

I don’t think you are looking at the right villain honestly. Many homeless are drug addicts and alcoholics, they are sabotaging themselves.

If you're a bank that gives out loans you know they people won't be able to pay back, leading to foreclosure, and in some states you'll still owe the bank money... And they have their house.

Also, if you think "just handing people things" means people stop and trying... Well, you have a lovely life. But as someone who's actually had to go to a food bank, let me tell you. There isn't much more dehumanizing that taking a handout. You feel like garbage, because you're conditioned to feel like if you have bad luck, you deserve to suffer.

As for the drug/alcohol problem... Sure. There's many homeless people with addiction problems. The highest statistics suggest that one in two homeless people have problems with drugs and/or alcohol... But many of them also struggle with mental illness, or are veterans that have pretty much be cast out by the country they fought for. And you're forgetting one very important thing.

They are people. They deserve help, love and mercy.

Ya they are people but how do you really help a drug addict or an alcoholic? If it were easy then we could get this mess cleaned up but we all know it’s not. Does that mean that we allow them to take advantage of laws that say no loitering? Or give them “safe” places to shoot up? How about the crime and the filth that follow the homeless? What shall we do about those things besides I guess continue to turn a blind eye?

The banks aren’t in it to make you foreclose and they don’t force you to sign papers. Where is the personal responsibility in this scenario?

I don’t have a problem with someone needing a helping hand and taking some resources that they could use to give themselves a boost. I’m talking about people who don’t have any intention on working and think that’s how they are gonna live. Which I think is most of the drug addicts and alcoholics. I can’t speak to the mental health issue but I think that can come from doing the drugs..
