{I will turn away from My signs those who are arrogant upon the earth without right; and if they should see every sign, they will not believe in it. And if they see the way of consciousness, they will not adopt it as a way; but if they see the way of error, they will adopt it as a way. That is because they have denied Our signs and they were heedless of them.} (7:146)

"Do they not see the BIRDS controlled in the atmosphere of the sky? None holds them up except ALLAH . Indeed in that are SIGNS for a people who believe" -Noble Quran 16:79

2 parts to that. You ignored the first part.
It's wrong translation. Thé original says "don't they see birds up in the sky - nothing holds them up there". Not true. The air supports them. Lots of bad science in ancient books.

"O children of Adam, let not Satan tempt you as he removed your parents from Paradise, stripping them of their clothing to show them their private parts. Indeed, he sees you, he and his tribe, from where you do not see them. Indeed, We have made the devils allies to those who do not believe." [Quran, 7:27]
Hey Kumamon, hes cool!
I could use some help with this one from yall more knowledgable Muslim peeps on hyurr....
There are 2 verses where it basically says "Oh you desert Arabs, you are the worst people on earth" I believe one of them mentions how their face grows dark when a female baby is born and then they bury her alive. Some people may feel these are not their favorite verses, but they are among mine because I think its exactly that kind of harsh, truthful example we need to ignite the self-reflection necessary to become better Muslims. If we are usually patting each other (and ourselves) on the back, ignoring our faults and cherry-picking the verses that speak of us in a decent or noble light, we have lost a lot. We need to hear the truth and the truth is that we have a lot of work to do, both individually and collectively, in order to strive to be momeneen, or even just average decent citizens of the world.

So there are other verses that speak to me as well, but the ones that usually ring first and loudest in my mind are these.... because I strongly feel that they show us how to be self-critical in a constructive fashion. They should be humbling to Muslims who posses a heart for the vulnerable and those whose suffering is greater than ours, as well as a call to right our own ship and avoid the temptation to harden our hearts.

Edit: I really appreciate all the other verses yall have added here and I dont think anyone here is "cherry-picking". I think its a wonderful thread. I was mainly speaking about myself and the rest of us outside of the Ramadan months as our hearts sometimes grow harder and colder without the mercy of Allah locking away the devil during this holy month.

The Arabs of the desert are the worst in Unbelief and hypocrisy, and most fitted to be in ignorance of the command which Allah hath sent down to His Messenger: But Allah is All-knowing, All-Wise. (9:97)

And of the wandering Arabs there is he who taketh that which he expendeth (for the cause of Allah) as a loss, and awaiteth (evil) turns of fortune for you (that he may be rid of it). The evil turn of fortune will be theirs. Allah is Hearer, Knower.(9:98)

And of the wandering Arabs there is he who believeth in Allah and the Last Day, and taketh that which he expendeth and also the prayers of the messenger as acceptable offerings in the sight of Allah. Lo! verily it is an acceptable offering for them. Allah will bring them into His mercy. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.(9:99)

The month of Ramadhan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. So whoever sights [the new moon of] the month, let him fast it; and whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other days. Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship and [wants] for you to complete the period and to glorify Allah for that [to] which He has guided you; and perhaps you will be grateful.

Is one who is devoutly obedient during periods of the night, prostrating and standing [in prayer], fearing the Hereafter and hoping for the mercy of his Lord, [like one who does not]? Say, "Are those who know equal to those who do not know?" Only they will remember [who are] people of understanding. (39:9)
