This is going to be a long response to show you the events (not all of them) as written of in the Bible.Umm think you are wrong about the 1,000 year period - JESUS reigns on earth with people alive for 1000 years then the dragon is loosed one last time or am i just imagining it?
Jesus never reigns on earth during the 1000 year period nor is it not mentioned anywhere in the Bible. Christians here have told me the same thing but have never been able to show me actual scripture that says Jesus reigned on earth for the 1000 year period.
These are the events as written of in the Bible:
- Jesus returns for all the saved, those asleep in their graves and those that are alive. This is the first resurrection and this resurrection is only for the saved. The saved are given new immortal bodies.
- The saved are then gathered by the angels and they meet the Lord in the air. Jesus' feet never touch the earth when He returns the second time (Matthew 24:30-31, 1 Thessalonians 4:16, 1 Corinthians 15:51-55, 1 Thessalonians 4:17).
- Jesus takes the righteous to heaven (John 13:33, 36; 14:2-3).
The Bible tells us how long the saved are in heaven for and what they do there.
"And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years" (Revelation 20:4). As you can see the saved have thrones, and the scripture tells us they reign with Christ. In what sense can the saved reign in heaven with Christ? They will govern with Christ and that will include judgement of the unsaved and Satan and his angels. And its for 1000 years. All this takes place in heaven not on earth. Nowhere does the Bible say Jesus is on earth during the millennium.
Satan is bound for 1000 years.
Meanwhile on earth, Satan is bound for the same period of 1000 years. “I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit. ... He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and he cast him into the bottomless pit ... till the thousand years were finished” (Revelation 20:1-3). I explained above that the word used for “bottomless pit” in the original Greek is “abussos,” or abyss. It is the same word used in Genesis 1:2 which says, "The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters." The same word is in Jeremiah 4:23, 25, 28. Bottomless pit when in context with the state of the earth means the earth is "without form, and void,” “no light,” “no man,” and “black”.
And that is indeed the state of the earth after Jesus returns the second time. Why? “There was a great earthquake, such a mighty and great earthquake as had not occurred since men were on the earth. … Then every island fled away, and the mountains were not found” (Revelation 16:18, 20). When Jesus comes back the second time the earth is turned upside down and is in a complete mess. Its completely desolate. The unsaved dead are all dead. Those that were dead stay dead, those that are alive are killed by the brightness of Jesus.
So Satan is on his own. Its important to note that Satan being an angel means he is a spirit and cannot be confined with a literal chain. Satan is “tied down” because he has no people to deceive. The unsaved are all dead and the saved are all in heaven. The Lord confines the devil to this earth so he cannot roam the universe hoping to find someone to deceive. Forcing the devil to stay on the earth, alone with his demons for a thousand years with no one to deceive, will be for him the most galling chain ever forged.
The events that happen after the 1000 year period with Christ and the saved.
“I ... saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God. ... And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, ‘Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men’ ” (Revelation 21:2, 3). Christ, the saved, and the New city descend on earth for two purposes. To judge the unsaved and to bring an end to sin by destroying the wicked and sin which will purify this earth.
What will happen to the wicked dead at this time?
The Bible says, “But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished" (Revelation 20:5). All the saved are alive and with Christ in heaven during the millennium, so the rest of the dead who did not live until the thousand years were finished are the unsaved dead, the wicked.
Satan is loosed after the 1000 years too.
"Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea" (Revelation 20:7-8). Satan, loosed from his bonds, will then have an earth full of people to deceive again.
What will Satan and the wicked do then?
"They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them” (Revelation 20:9). That is how we know the New city, New Jerusalem comes down at the end of the 1000 year period. Satan, true to his nature, lies and convinces the wicked to surround and attack the New Jerusalem.
Satan’s plans to capture and destroy the city New Jerusalem are interrupted.
“Fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them. The devil, who deceived them, was cast into ... the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death” (Revelation 20:9, 10; 21:8). Fire will come down from heaven (not up from hell, as many believe) upon the wicked and all will be turned into ashes, including the devil and his angels (Matthew 25:41). This fire that destroys sin and sinners is called the second death. There is no resurrection from this death. It is final.
God will cleanse the earth from sin. Satan and his angels, all the unsaved, death and hell will all be burned up in the lake of fire. Sin and suffering will never rise up again, God promised.
What happens after the fire has completed its work?
"Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:1-5).
"For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; And the former shall not be remembered or come to mind. But be glad and rejoice forever in what I create; For behold, I create Jerusalem as a rejoicing, And her people a joy. I will rejoice in Jerusalem, And joy in My people; The voice of weeping shall no longer be heard in her, Nor the voice of crying" (Isaiah 65:17-19).
The earth is now restored to the way it was intended to be before sin. God’s original purpose in the creation of the earth is fulfilled as it is made the eternal home of the redeemed. The Bible makes it clear that the saved will inherit this earth (Matthew 5:5; Psalms 37:9, 29; 115:16). The New Jerusalem is the capital city of the New earth. God will also dwell with His people always and His tabernacle will be here on earth too as the above verses of Revelation 21 say.
Revelation 22:3-5 says the same thing too. "And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him. They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads. There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever."
All these events take place after the 1000 years and sin and sinners have been destroyed forever.
The only time the Bible says God reigns on earth with the saved is when there is a new earth and a new heaven. Not during the 1000 year period. Can you please show me actual scripture that says Jesus reigns on this earth during the 1000 year period specifically? Thanks.
