Colleagues at a government-contracted shelter in Arizona had a specific request for Antar Davidson when three Brazilian migrant children arrived: “Tell them they can’t hug.” Davidson, 32, is of Brazilian descent and speaks Portuguese.

He said the siblings — ages 16, 10 and 6 — were distraught after being separated from their parents at the border.
The children were “huddled together, tears streaming down their faces,” he said.

Officials had told them their parents were “lost,” which they interpreted to mean dead. Davidson said he told the children he didn’t know where their parents were, but that they had to be strong. “The 16-year-old, he looks at me and says, ‘How?’” Davidson said.
As he watched the youth cry, he thought, “This is not healthy.”

Davidson quit this week after being a youth care worker at the Tucson shelter, Estrella del Norte, for just a few months.

------

“We see no communication that the parent knows that their child is to be taken away. Instead, the officers say, “I’m going to take your child to get bathed.” That’s one we see again and again.
“Your child needs to come with me for a bath.” The child goes off, and in a half an hour, twenty minutes, the parent inquires, “Where is my five-year-old?” “Where’s my seven-year-old?” “This is a long bath.” And they say, “You won’t be seeing your child again.”
Sometimes mothers—I was talking to one mother, and she said, “Don’t take my child away,” and the child started screaming and vomiting and crying hysterically, and she asked the officers, “Can I at least have five minutes to console her?” They said no.”

Nearly 4,600 mental-health professionals and 90 organizations have joined a petition urging President Trump, Attorney General Jeff Sessions and several elected officials to stop the policy of separating children from their parents. The petition says:

"These children are thrust into detention centers often without an advocate or an attorney and possibly even without the presence of any adult who can speak their language. We want you to imagine for a moment what this might be like for a child: to flee the place you have called your home because it is not safe to stay and then embark on a dangerous journey to an unknown destination, only to be ripped apart from your sole sense of security with no understanding of what just happened to you or if you will ever see your family again. And that the only thing you have done to deserve this, is to do what children do: stay close to the adults in their lives for security."

Some people like this fallacy.

It makes zero sense to me. It's more of that low hanging fruit stuff I brought up before. Where they just pick on the easy targets to feed their shitty bases. It's great fun to those who view through the lenses of nazi eyes.

It will be stopped, but people need to do some soul searching. Real conversations need to be had.

The conversion of Wallmarts into caged detention centers where children are kept in mass numbers with poor to no documentation and a strong-armed ban on photography and press is really rather frightening. There's reports that massive numbers of children have already gone missing into this dystopian system. This carries portents of human trafficking on a large scale, a candy-land for the sorts of people this website recognizes and reviles.
What's more, it illustrates the great ease with which the community shopping center can be converted into a large-scale detention center, and the great willingness with which your friends at Wallmart offer up their facilities for the mass confinement of weeping children.
Things are escalating quickly in America.

This is a terrible situation for the kids, but only children crossing illegally are detained, as are their parents (or rather the adults who claim they are the parents.) Up until the Trump administration, illegals were detained a short time and then released into the US, with instructions to return at a certain date to learn the results of their claim for asylum. At which point they would almost surely be deported. You can imagine how well that worked. It's one of those things that you hear about and wonder why they even bother detaining them at all. Just shake their hand and welcome them to America. That's what the left wants (except for the to America part, because that might trigger non-Americans), but it's not a real great way to preserve the sovereignty of your country.

Anyway, Trump thought this system was stupid and, instead of the catch-and-release program that had been the status quo through the last two presidents, the DHS has started processing applicants while in custody, saving themselves the trouble of tracking them down once their claim has been determined. Most claims for asylum are turned down, which is why claimants have traditionally gone on the lam as soon as they could.

America lets lots of people enter the country legally, and that is still the best way to do it. Incarcerating people whose first act on your soil is to break a law isn't unreasonable. You can't very well put children in with the general population, and the fact is that a good deal of these children are being trafficked, and separating them from the adults who claim to be their parents can be the first step to saving their lives.

The fact that this particular practice of separating the kids from the adults was begun under W. Bush and continued through all eight years of Obama without a peep from anyone means that it's probably not as much of a nightmare as it's being portrayed, and it's only now being fashioned into a grievance against Trump. I imagine changes will be made to it shortly, and everyone will move on to the next thing that proves they are living in Trump's Nazi America.

If America was such an awful place, people wouldn't be trying so hard to get in. My people on both sides came to Canada and the US fleeing actual persecution, but they did it legally. I'm still unclear on why legal immigration has become a crime against humanity.

Thank you @manama and @Mr.Grieves and @Aero finally others who are alarmed about this and not complacent this is a huge escalation against human rights.
Who will speak for the undocumented?

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

As if you'd care if they came for the Jews. Spare us.

And one more thing, every single person who is incarcerated for crossing the border illegally is being held because they choose to subject themselves to that instead of returning to the country they came from. No one is being held against their will. You would think that would deflate the concentration camp narrative immediately, but I imagine we'll get at least another ten or twelve pages out of this.

Phewph. So long as it's just the law-breaking toddlers.
Up until the Trump administration, illegals were detained a short time and then released into the US, with instructions to return at a certain date to learn the results of their claim for asylum. At which point they would almost surely be deported. You can imagine how well that worked. It's one of those things that you hear about and wonder why they even bother detaining them at all. Do you believe there's such a thing as legitimate asylum-seekers? Families in such grave peril that they deserve asylum, even after fleeing across the border without an approved application? Is that something you consider a possibility, or is the border more sacred than, say, a mother and her child doomed to die if they turn back?

And one more thing, every single person who is incarcerated for crossing the border illegally is being held because they choose to subject themselves to that instead of returning to the country they came from. No one is being held against their will.
The poor choices of toddlers in breaking laws they don't comprehend warrants the punishment of indefinite separation from all family and loved ones, and incarceration in a holding facility for an equally indefinite period of time?

I mean, those pictures of that one largely empty facility look nice enough, but this is a multi-state effort using facilities of all sorts, is it not? You have seen the photos, authorized for release because they wont let photographers into these facilities, of kids in space-blankets sleeping on floors in kennel-style chain-link cages?
Have you heard this?

Yes, if the Jews were illegals and the Nazis let them to go back to their home countries as an alternative to being locked up.
The kids who are separated permanently from their parents- a very real possibility in this scenario of placing them in seperate facilities to navigate separate bureaucracies over a prolonged period, the kids who aren't old enough to know their own names and have no documentation, the kids who have already and will likely continue to go missing in this process... none of them have going home as an alternative.
My people on both sides came to Canada and the US fleeing actual persecution, but they did it legally.
This, here, suggests to me you're not capable of empathizing with these people. These people come from a region of the world where just yesterday dismembered bodies were being scattered down main-street like confetti. Where the authorities are corrupt and largely subservient to drug cartels who butcher people for kicks... and yet you don't believe they could have faced real persecution, not real like YOUR family, anyway...

EXACTLY, and the fact is that NONE of the children are counted or you know, have their own files, put in the system etc. So, once a child is put into a foster home, the government and the people no longer have an idea where the kid is.

Its all fun and games until you realize that Jews weren't persecuted by the Nazis in a day, concentration camps didn't come to life in a day, It was a slow process, with logical arguments that escalated and the people failed to realize the danger until it was too late.

It's being terribly exaggerated by the media.

It's not the Four Seasons, but it's not nearly Bergen-Belsen, either.

Oh look! there is a T.v, I bet that solves all the mental trauma that the kids are going through. YAY!!!.

Edit: The law everyone is saying that, it has been here since Clinton's time is a completely different thing which said that people with Children would have a shorter duration of detention time and Kids will most likely be near their parents meeting them and everything. This law is completely different which is SEPARATING the kids from families and parents (even if they leave jail) can never meet their kids again because they have no track of the kids being taken into the shelters.

First of all. Nobody is emotionally blackmailing me.

The idea that all the criminals want to leave their safe havens and come to America doesn't make sense. Now I've only ever been to Mexico, but it seemed pretty easy to be a criminal. So to me these migrants are only guilty of making some poor, or lazy choices. They are just people trying to escape poverty or the same criminals they are accused of being. They deserve to be treated like human beings.
