I tried to talk my parents into building a nuclear fallout shelter in the back yard (this was back in the sixties.)

Instead, they bought a rotor-tiller and made a garden for growing okra and tomatoes and Lima beans.

I have ever since hated okra and tomatoes. I will eat same if forced (or if etiquette obliges me to) but I absolutely refuse Lima beans in all circumstances. Stupid garden.

And I *still* want a fallout shelter. <pouts>

A hole dug in your back yard and roofed with boards would be better than nothing, the nuclear blast would simply sweep over the top, and if the wind was right the radioactive fallout wouldn't land near you.
Remember to take enough food and water to last you a few days, plus a torch, and a radio to stay in touch with world news-
