The fires are from farmers burning scrub and areas that have already been cleared. The rainforest is not being destroyed. In fact, deforestation is way down from what was happening under Lula.

Mobile1, cant be long.

Just a bit of insight, i dont know ir foi guys remember that back in January I told my state was on fire, with all those pyrimaniacs1 and all. There is a guy called gilmar Mendes that said that if bolsonaro won he would set the country ablaze, first place was my state (there is a huge fire here, but you don't see it anywhere in the news. I guess that since my state is poor they don't care about it) and now its the amazon...

I'm sorry, it was José Dirceu, not Gilmar Mendes who said it about burning down the whole country

Bolsonaro has nothing to do with it. It’s farmers burning their farm land, just like they do every year.

Brazilian here.
Fires happen every year, but now media has blow it out of proportions. I do believe there are politic reasons behind what media's doing. On the contrary of what @Stephania said, corrupt powerful people do want Bolsonaro out. Brazil was robbed by PT (an extremely corrupt left party that ruled the country for the last fourteen years) for many years and now that they are being punished for what they have done and lost their place in the president's chair, they are doing retaliation. They want to assume the power again, but to do so they need to get rid of Bolsonaro.

Apparently the president Bolsonaro is blaming the ONGs for the fires.
He was already fined for illegal fishing. Was receiving millions from Norway and Germany for the Amazon fund but (willingly?) broke the deal and basically told them to f*ck off (“Take that money and help Angela Merkel reforest Germany.”).
He accepted the help of Israel and France(G7).

You call this leftist group extremist.. but not the far right Bolsonaro? That's... Interesting. I don't believe any world leaders want him out. And he's in bed with Israel.

That's the thing, Western society is so split between right/left and VC is just as much an example of the division. A good amount of the replies here are based on "news" and opinions drummed up by the lackeys of billionaire corporate, military intelligence, zionist propaganda. We really have to double-check our sources. It can be depressing to realize people can't agree on what truth is, but my opinion is we have soldier through the (dis)information age.

Here's a counter perspective on Bolsonaro and the fires. I personally trust award winning independent journalists more than mainstream zionist publications. The only hope of breaking through the left/right divide is facts:

https://theintercept.com/2019/07/06/brazil-amazon-rainforest-indigenous-conservation-agribusiness-ranching/

Edit: I linked a video but it's less about the fires. Instead the Intercept articles are better

PT has the PSOL (socialista party) and MST (Movimento Sem Terra, wich is not a politial party per se but a "government" backed milita) as their... armed arm? Their muscle, sorry, don't know the correspondence in english, and also has the PCdoB (Communist Party of Brazil). Together they form what we known here as the left.

There is a dissidant, smaller party tough, PCO, Partido da Causa Operária or "Worker's Cause Party" that radically differs from what PT & Co. stand for. Even tough Biloriro is called a fascista, nazist and wathever else we're still to see him doing anything that actually any of these things would do. The main weapon of the right is... zoeira. I mean, the guy who stabbed him is safe and sound in a psychiatric prison, after the attack the guy was safely escorted out the crownd even tough (tinfoil hat time) he was expected to be killed in the spot.

The other guy, Fernando Haddad, was contacted by directly by Soros in back 2018 by the way.

To the mainstream media here Soros is a good guy, noone remember that he backed up the 2013 revolts' black blocks.

I'm not sure if anyone cares, but there are huge fires burning in Bolivia as well, for the same reasons. Farmers are clearing land.

Yeah I read that too in an article from the Guardian. It's just being hyped now for some reason.

I'm sorry, English is not my main language and I think I didn't express myself in a clear way. When I said that PT was an "extremely corrupt left party", I wanted to say that PT was extremely corrupt, not that it was an extremely left party. PT is not on the extreme left-wing, that would be parties like PSTU, PCO and others. Also, Bolsonaro is not in the far right.
I don't know if other countries leaders want Bolsonaro out either. I was solely referring to PT and their lacays (PSOL, PCdoB, etc). They were in the power before Bolsonaro was elected president and, during this time, they destroyed Brazil while making fortunes for themselves. Bolsonaro has been very vocal about being against them for many years now, so, of course, they knew that in the case of Bolsonaro's election, they wouldn't be able to keep robing the country like they did. Because of that, they have been doing everything they can to damage Bolsonaro's image and govern. I'm not saying that Bolsonaro is not doing sh*t too, because he does. The case is, PT and other people from the left-wing have payed dirt money to brazilian mass media during the years and since Bolsonaro was elected, mass media has been making a huge deal of every little thing Bolsonaro does in his govern. They lie, they do fake news and so many other things that it wasn't a surprise that national mass media turned the fires thing in a major chaos.

As you can see, there were many times in the past that the fires were worse than now, but that happened during PT govern, so mass media didn't make a deal about them.

Also, Brazil and EU were in negotiations about free trades recently, but it seems it was not in France interests. I think this probably was one of the reasons this fire issue became so huge.

Ok so fires happen every year but it's about the second or maybe third time in my life that I hear about it. The thoughtlessness and mindlessness of people to not make a big deal out of this. Not that we can do much about it, maybe just not buying things that come from rain forest resources. I read that Palm Oil is the culprit. You tell me if there's more. I don't want to buy anything with Palm Oil in it. I don't want to be a part of this outrageous exploitation of the beautiful Amazon rain forest. I hate knowing that it keeps being deforested and yet I don't hear of them replanting trees or anything like that.

Keep taking and taking from Earth without a care and expect it to all get replenished somehow.

For those of us that love this planet and care for it, it's outrageous!

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that the destruction of the Amazon is an insignificant thing. Afterall, it's always sad when the nature pays for the human ambition. All I'm saying is you only heard about the fires now because there were politic reasons behind it all. If you check the graphics I posted above, you'll see that there were at least 10 worse cases of fires in the rainforest prior to 2019... but, as you said, you only heard about one or two of them. This not means they didn't happen, only that media and the elites in general didn't have reasons to expose them.
Now, if you want to do something about it, I'd suggest you to not buy meat that come from the rainforest, since part of the fires are due to the cattle farms.

Right on, thank you for your reply. I will definitely avoid buying that kind of stuff. I will not support an evil cause
