Many of the numbers in the Bible have deeper prophetic or spiritual significance. Both in the Old and New Testaments, numbers reveal hidden concepts and meanings that commonly escape the casual reader. And throughout history, men with great minds, like Augustine, Isaac Newton, and Leonardo Da Vinci, showed more than just a passing curiosity regarding the importance of biblical numbers. Once more, Jesus said, “But the very hairs of your head are all numbered” (Matthew 10:30). So obviously, Bible numbers should be carefully considered.

At least 12 numbers in the Bible stand out in this regard: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 12, 40, 50, and 70. In order to express this truth, one or two biblical examples have been given below. However, much more can be said on this subject, so these examples serve merely as an introduction and are not exhaustive by any means.

1 – Represents absolute singleness and unity (Ephesians 4:4–6; John 17:21, 22.)

2 – Represents the truth of God’s Word; for example, the law and prophets (John 1:45), two or three witnesses (2 Corinthians 13:1), and a sword with two edges (Hebrews 4:12). See Mark 6:7 and Revelation 11:3. It is also used 21 times in the books of Daniel and Revelation.

3 – Represents the Godhead/Trinity. The angels cry “Holy” three times to the triune God (Isaiah 6:3). See also Matthew 28:19 and 1 John 5:7, 8.

3 ½ – Represents rejection and apostasy. It is the dissection of seven, the perfect number. For 3-½ years, Elijah fled from persecution. Jesus was crucified at the end of a 3-½ year period. Stephen was the first Christian martyr, stoned at the end of 3-½ years of the apostles preaching amid persecution. There were 3-½ prophetic years when the church went underground during the Dark Ages, from 538 to 1798.

4 – Represents universal truth, as in the four directions (north, south, east, west) and the four winds (Matthew 24:31; Revelation 7:1; Revelation 20:8). In Acts 10:11, a sheet with four corners symbolizes the gospel going to all the gentiles.

5 – Represents teaching. First, there are the five books of Moses. Second, Jesus taught about the five wise virgins and used five barley loaves used to feed the 5,000.

6 – Represents the worship of man, and is the number of man, signifying his rebellion, imperfection, works, and disobedience. It is used 273 times in the Bible, including its derivatives (e.g, sixth) and another 91 times as “threescore” or “60.” Man was created on the sixth day (Genesis 1:26, 31). See also Exodus 31:15 and Daniel 3:1.

The number is especially significant in the book Revelation, as “666” identifies the beast. “Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six” (Revelation 13:18).

7 – Represents perfection, and is the sign of God, divine worship, completions, obedience, and rest. The “prince” of Bible numbers, it is used 562 times, including its derivatives (e.g., seventh, sevens). (See Genesis 2:1–4, Psalm 119:164, and Exodus 20:8–11 for just a few of the examples.)

The number seven is also the most common in biblical prophecy, occurring 42 times in Daniel and Revelation alone. In Revelation there are seven churches, seven spirits, seven golden candlesticks, seven stars, seven lamps, seven seals, seven horns, seven eyes, seven angels, seven trumpets, seven thunders, seven thousand slain in a great earthquake, seven heads, seven crowns, seven last plagues, seven golden vials, seven mountains, and seven kings.

10 – Represents law and restoration. Of course, this includes the Ten Commandments found in Exodus 20. See also Matthew 25:1 (ten virgins); Luke 17:17 (ten lepers); Luke 15:8 (healing, ten silver coins).

12 – Represents the church and God’s authority. Jesus had 12 disciples, and there were 12 tribes of Israel. In Revelation 12:1, the 24 elders and 144,000 are multiples of 12. The New Jerusalem city has12 foundations, 12 gates 12 thousand furlongs, a tree with 12 kinds of fruit 12 times a year eaten by 12 times 12,000 or the 144,000. (See Revelation 21.)

40 – Represents a generation and times of testing. It rained for 40 days during the flood. Moses spent 40 years in the desert, as did the children of Israel. King David reigned 40 years and Jesus fasted for 40 days. These were times of testing or trial too.

50 – Represents power and celebration. The Jubilee came after the 49th year (Leviticus 25:10), and Pentecost occurred 50 days after Christ’s resurrection (Acts 2).

70 – Represents human leadership and judgment. Moses appointed 70 elders (Exodus 24:1); The Sanhedrin was made up of 70 men. Jesus chose 70 disciples (Luke 10:1). Jesus told Peter to forgive 70 times 7.

666 – As mentioned, six represents the number of man; 666 represents the kingdom of man in opposition to God. 666 is a “triangular number,” as 36 is both its square and a triangular number (12 + 12+ 12 = 36). Moreover, 222 times 3 equals 666. Thus, 666 also symbolizes a counterfeit trinity. Some are very superstitious about the number 666 and have refused phone numbers, license plates, and credit cards containing it. This phobia is known as hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia. But we don’t have to be afraid of the number 666 itself. It is simply a natural number that follows 665 and proceeds 667. However, Revelation says, “Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred and sixty-six” (Revelation 13:18).

144,000 – Represents the last-day apostles. As Jesus had 12 leaders who shared the gospel at the time of His first coming, an army of 12 times 12,000 will be baptized in the Spirit to prepare the world for the second coming of Christ. Another interesting clue related to the 144,000 is found in 1 Chronicles 27: David’s army was comprised of 12 sets of 24,000, totaling 288,000; that was two armies of 144,000 who would alternate their service throughout the year. In 1 Chronicles 25, a literal group of “24 times 12” ( 288) Levities led in praise music of the temple (one for the day, one for the night) — half of 288 is 144.

666: The Number of a Man

"Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666" (Revelation 13:18).

Note that 666 is not some magical number being stamped all over everything or a computer in Brussels that represents the registration of every citizen of Earth who is to be subjected to the new economic policies of the new world order. It is a means of identification. Identification of a single individual.

The text clearly states that the number is a man’s, but also the Beast’s. The number 666 applies to the Papacy (a kingdom represented by a beast in Bible typology) and is the number of a man (the supreme ruler of that kingdom), bringing it in line with the “man of sin” recorded in the Scriptures.

If the official secular and religious titles of the Roman Church are examined, then the number 666 is prominent. Latin letters have a numerical value, as we can see in the following chart:

The official Latin title of the Pope is VICARIUS FELII DEI , which means "Vicar of the Son of God." For several centuries this official title appeared upon the Pope's mitre, his crown. It is is at times disputed by Catholic theologians, but can be verified in papal canons and other Catholic publications.

Catholic F. Lucii Ferraris, in his Latin encyclopedia called Prompta Bibliotheca canonica juridica moralis theologica said this:
"Ut sicut Beatus Petrus in terris vicarius Filii Dei fuit constitutus, ita et Potifices eius successores in terris principatus potestatem amplius, quam terrence imperialis nostræ serenitatis mansuetudo habere videtur" (emphasis added). F. Lucii Ferraris, "Papa," Prompta Bibliotheca canonica juridica moralis theologica Volume IV (Rome: Press of the Propaganda, 1890): 43, as quoted in Christian Edwardson, Facts of Faith (TEACH Inc., 2001): 222.<

The English translation is as follows:
"As the blessed Peter was constituted Vicar of the Son of God on earth, so it is seen that the Pontiffs, his successors, hold for us and our empire the power of a supremacy on the earth greater than the clemency of our earthly imperial serenity." Christian Edwardson, Facts of Faith (TEACH Inc., 2001): 222.

Our Sunday Visitor, a Jesuit publication, published two admissions that Vicarius Filii Dei is in fact a title for the pope—on November 15, 1914, and April 18, 1915. The November 15, 1914, issue, as shown in the picture, tells us this:
"The title of the Pope of Rome is Vicarius Filii Dei. This is inscribed on his mitre; and if you take the letters of his title (printed large) and add them together they come to 666...add these together and the total will be 666."

Dr. Henry Grattan Guinness, in Babylon and the Beast, said this:
"An English officer of high rank, who in 1799 by a special favor, was given the special opportunity, while in Rome, to get a close look at the Pope's jewels and precious things, discovered thereby, that the papal tiara bore this inscription: 'Vicarivs Filii Dei.'

"When you take out the Latin letters, which have a numerical value, and which still are used to represent numbers, and which are: V, I, C, L, and D, these letters form the number given below. In these Latin words there are two V's, which letter denotes 5, six I's denoting 1, one C which denotes 100, one L, which denotes 50, and one D, which denotes 500, thus, V,V=10; I,I,I,I,I,I=6; C=100; L=50; and D=500, the sum 666."
H Grattan Guinness, Baylon and the Beast: 141, as quoted in S. Svensson, Kyrkans Strid Och Slutliga Streger (Stockholm: 1908): 126, 128.

Richard Cunningham Shimeall (1803 - 1874), wrote this in his book Our Bible Chronology:
"It is to be observed as a singular circumstance, that the title vicarius filii dei (Vicar of the Son of God), which the Popes of Rome have assumed to themselves, and caused to be inscribed over the door of the Vatican, exactly makes the number 666, when deciphered with the numeral signification of its constituent letters..." Richard Shimeall, Our Bible Chronology—Historic and Prophetic, Critically Examined and Demonstrated (New York: A. S. Barnes and Co., 1867): 180.

Many in some Protestant Churches today would wish to apply the number 666 to the whole of humanity rather than the Papacy specifically. But if both Catholics and Protestants agree on the title, and even the Jesuits—the society sworn to protect the Pope at any cost—confirmed the title and number twice in their own publication, can we doubt its validity?

Is this phrase currently found on the Pope's mitre? No. A few centuries back the church of Rome was sufficiently embarassed by this revelation, and they removed the "VICARIUS FILII DEI" from the mitre.

But, the Roman Catholic Church still continues using this phrase in their ceremonies whenever a new Pope is ordained. "VICARIUS FILII DEI" is the Pope's official title.

This is AMAZING. I love numerology and find this is so fitting with the modern teachings of numerology (which 99% of the time are not related to biblical events).
1 - freedom, independence, innovation
2 - cooperation, consistency, working together
3 - creative energy
4 - stability (I always think of a table with 4 legs)
5 - freedom, change, adventure
6 - domestic, family (think of ‘personal’ relationships)
7 - spirituality
10 represents the ending of one cycle and beginning of another
0 amplifies any number it sits beside

But what I wonder, as I am not a follower of Christianity, is how this could relate to Masonry? The masons are so into numbers, especially these special square numbers which is all I could think of when reading of the 144,000. I’ve recently studied the Jesuits and think Christianity could be tied to the Freemasons or Illuminati if you will, so reading this makes it actually feel like some kind of written code proving that.

Numerology is a form of sehr. Magic in other words, while all magic should be forbidden. I say "should" because the vast majority of the planet today is far from religion. Even those who claim otherwise.

Basically, numerology involves a relationship with the jinn. Demons if you prefer. If you have to wonder why so many "masons" are into numbers its because they work with the jinn. Kabbalists is a much better word then "illuminati" if you want to describe these people.

Numerology is best avoided as practicing magic will take one to hell.
Basically because magic requires worship of the jinn.

Hi, the numerology in the Bible does not relate to masonry at all. Masonry is satanic and although it tries to copy the Bible (though they have different numbers and meanings to the Bible that are more important to them), it serves a different purpose and god.

Christianity and masonry do not and should not relate at all but sadly some Christian religions don't follow the Word of God and are more pagan than Christian. They tend to be masonic too. True Christianity has nothing to do with masonry at all.

In the Bible, the number 12 and its multiples almost always represents leadership and authority of the church as I posted in my Op. It appears throughout the Bible from the Old to the New Testament.

The 144,000 according to the Bible, are a special people who will live during the end time of this world and will have a critical mission to prepare the world for Jesus' second coming. They are to preach the end time message to the whole world. Many people will come to Christ and forsake their sinful lives just before Jesus returns. The 144,000 are not tied to freemasonry or the illuminati at all. Satan is the god of freemasonry and illuminati not of the 144,000.

I don’t believe in Christianity, the only reason it’s so renowned is because of the savage killing that took place for the message to be spread. I’ve practiced numerology for nine years, and while I believe in evil spirits I don’t commune with them. There is magic in numbers, to me it is a true universal language. So while you may believe it’s a form of evil that I practice with my demons and will go to hell for, I know otherwise.

Haha, I've just had a "triple whammy" of number coincidences involving the number 23 over the past couple of days-
Firstly in a military discussion forum I did a post about 23mm AA guns.
Then hours later in Star Trek TNG, Picard asks Riker how many colonists have been brought aboard, and Riker says "23".
Then after another few hours in my 'Go tell the Spartans' DVD, Burt Lancaster asks a lieutenant how old he is and he replies "23".

The only thing that springs to mind in that connection is the Bible's Psalm 23-
"The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he refreshes my soul.." etc

What is it that you know?
"Also, Jesus used to call himself “the son of a man“ and this term is used exactly 88 times in the Bible. It is also known that the last book of the Bible is the Book of Revelation and this book contains 888 words. In Greek language all the letters of the name “Jesus“ have the value of 888, which is one more sign that number 8 was very important in the life of Jesus Christ and also in the Bible in general."

Also I read in other place. That when God create our universe.. he rest the 7th day and in the 8th day..the demons were created.

Maybe the 8th day is the apocalypsis??

I've never heard of any of this but some things you said are untrue according to the Bible. There is no eighth day of the week. There are only seven days in a week. After the seventh day of the week, the next seven day weekly cycle begins again.

God did create the demons but not as demons and definitely not on the eighth day. Demons in the Bible are fallen angels. They were created perfect and sinless until Satan their leader sinned and turned against God. He manipulated, lied and persuaded a third of all angels in heaven to join him in rebellion against God. The Bible says, “War broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought” (Revelation 12:7). Veres 8-9 then add, "but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him." The dragon symbolizes Satan who is the devil and Lucifer, and Michael symbolizes Christ, the One who is over all the angels.

Satan and his angels were thrown out of heaven and cast out of heaven. When Adam and Eve were created it is Satan through a serpent who tempted Eve and brought sin into this world.

We read about these demons or evil angels having dialogue with Jesus in Matthew 8:28-34, Mark 5:6-13, Luke 8:28-33 which makes it clear they knew Jesus and knew their end. these demons possessed people and one of the things Jesus did during His ministry on earth was cast demons out of people. Some Bible versions say devils instead of demons. The Bible says, "For He healed many, so that as many as had afflictions pressed about Him to touch Him. And the unclean spirits, whenever they saw Him, fell down before Him and cried out, saying, “You are the Son of God” (Mark 3:10-11).

So all angels, good and bad, were created before this world was ever in existence. None of them were created after this world and everything in it was created. The demons or evil angels existed before this world was created according to the Bible.

Best book on the subject...

Number in Scripture by E.W. Bullinger

An invaluable guide to the study of bible numerology, or numerics. The first part of the book deals with the designs involved in numbers and numerical features as the pertain to the Bible and evidence God's work. Bullinger suggests that such a study provides insight into the Designer who created the Bible. The second part covers the spiritual significance and symbolic connotations of the numbers that repeatedly appear in the same order or throughout the Bible.

And he was a dispensationalist which is not biblical at all. Dispensationalism is man made doctrine and is a dangerous corruption of Scripture. I would advise any Christians to avoid dispensationalism and the confusion that comes with it especially if they want to follow God and His Truth.

Gematria is interesting stuff. Though like all such arts could also probably be a good way to drive oneself insane.

Anyone read those "Bible Code" books? Well, apparently it's been debunked anyway.

The number 23 is very, very wired.
You watch star trek on Horror?

Yes, there's an episode of ST where the number '3' keeps popping up all around the ship and it turns out that it was the way the crew in another "dimension" were sending the message "Listen to Riker", because he had three rank stars on his collar.
PS- I just had another "numbers" coincidence yesterday, I glanced at the clock to see the time and it was 5:55:55 ( ie 5 hours:55 minutes: 55 seconds), so I googled "Bible 5:55" and found this interesting hit, but I don't know whether it was a message or just coincidence..:)

Have you been seeing 5:55 frequently or other repeating numbers? Curious what angel number 555 means?
Angels are sent by God to guard us in all ways (Psalm 91:11) and to deliver messages (Luke 1:19). One way they might communicate with you is through Angel numbers or repeated number sequences.

Yes!!! Lol, it was a groundhog day episode, and the 3s were a message to the next cycle.

There was a whole Jim Carey film about how weird the number 23 was.

I haven't seen any 5s recently. I probably will, now that you have mentioned it.

As I mentioned in another thread, I often get coincidences involving three numbers, for example I might glance at the thermometer in the kitchen and it reads "22.2", or I might glance at the clock and it says "4:44", and sometimes other numbers are involved like 11:11 or 3:33 etc.
One possible theory is that it's God or Jesus or the Universe giving us these little coincidences just to let us know that we're "in tune" with them.
I'm far from being a perfect christian, for example I used to go with prostitutes and I'm an ex-convict (3-month vigilante rap in 2002), but maybe these little coincidences are encouraging us to "just hang in there and keep improving, you're on the right track".
This verse springs to mind, Jesus said-
"He who has my commandments and keeps them is the one who loves me; and he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will disclose myself to him.” (John 14:21)
