BILL SUMMARY - As introduced it decriminalizes prostitution if those involved are 18 years of age and older. It requires the establishment of a task force to study and make recommendations regarding: the effects and unintended consequences of the Reducing Criminalization of Commercial Sex Amendment Act of 2019, additional changes to criminal penalties for commercial sex, and supports for individuals engaging in commercial sex in the District of Columbia.

Sex work shouldn't be criminalized, even if you think sex work is exploitative, because genuinely it hurts the victims of exploitation more than the pimps and the johns exploiting them. It's also no different than any other job. And it's not really any different than factory work or construction; you're selling the use of your body for money.

Should it be anyone's first choice of a job? Probably not. But neither should factory rat, construction worker, miner, or soldier... But sometimes, it's the only choice if you're able-bodied and don't qualify for disability.

I really hate to just jump in and say that everything I just read is ridiculous, but it is. Prostitution IS exploitative and in a very different way than being a construction worker (which is the worst analogy, ever). It induces trauma and loss of self. Those who are predisposed to sell sex aren't mentally healthy run of the mill people, they are the children who've been traumatized already and I distain the fact that instead of caring about that, people (mostly dirtball men) are so eager to slap a new label on it and sell trauma.

*Edit* Also... on your point of pimps exploiting the "workers", that is exactly what you are saying should be legalized. Only this time, it'll be men in business suits running them and profiting from all of their "hard work".
