Our allegiance is always to God and the Bible shows us God's will. That is why the Bible says in John 1:1,14, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth." You cannot separate God from His Word. The two go hand in hand.

I agree with your statement that we can seperate God from his Word. However Christianity has made an idol out of it's presupposed understanding of the Bible. I believe the Bible has unkowningly become an idol for many Christians. It is possible to idolize the Bible and become focused on the words on a page rather than the one the words point too.

We don't get to pick and choose what we will believe in from the Word of God which is God and represents God. Either you accept the whole Word of God or you don't. There is not in between in the Bible.

I wasn't talking about picking and choosing. However, how do you know the version of the bible you possess right now is the complete bible or that it doesn't contain books that should not be there? I'm not arguing one way or the other, just wondering what your assurance that the bible you posess is 100% all of God's word and 100% correct and true to the original intent.

@Todd actually my point is we can't separate God from His Word. God's Word shows us who God is and what His Will. Without His Word we would be lost wouldn't we because God doesn't communicate with us directly. He communicates with us through the Word. His Word has power to transform us too. God and Bible are inseparable.

@Todd I posted the comment about picking and choosing before I read your reply. I know the Bible (in most versions) is the Word of God because it harmonises completely from Genesis to Revelation. There may be versions of the Bible that have mistakes in them but on the whole they still relay who God is and the love He has for us and the price He paid to save us should we accept His gift of salvation.

@phipps I agree the Bible as whole relays who God is and the love he has for us. However I believe the Bible is man's record of God's word. Yes the authors of the bible were inspired by God to record his words, but it is man's record of his words. But the bible itself is filled with examples of God speaking directly to his people outside of scripture. Is not God the same yesterdy, today and forever?

You believe wrong about God's Word being man's record of God's Word. If His Word is inspired by the Holy Spirit then the Word is not a record of man is it? Its God's record. That is why it harmonises from Genesis to Revelation when not misinterpreted. All of the Bible is God's Word whether He spoke directly or not.
