“Matt and Katie discuss Matt’s recent piece on Democrats abandoning the cause of civil liberties. They also break down the recent development of police departments using drones to monitor civilians regarding cooperation with social distancing.”

Economically it seems probable, given how much unemployment the world is facing now (way more than before).
Seems like a chance for acceleration in that field but as @Bertoxxulous already says, it is something inevitable that has been impending on us for a few decades now.

Robots are slowly taking over most jobs. I mean a corporation like McDonalds for example you can walk into most restaurants and fulfill your order at a kiosk. It’s a changing industry in some businesses. Especially from a liability/cost issue.

You wouldn’t have to worry about giving raises, employees getting hurt.
Of course you’ll still need humans to maintenance these things.

Prep for the future. Covid is changing the way we do business moving forward

Yeah but that’s coming anyway. Doesn’t have to be a bad thing. If machines can do labor for us then good. There is nothing noble about lifting shit all god damn day. I do it so I know. Anyway it’s just about how it’s applied. Technology gives us all the chance to work less and find fulfillment in life, doesn’t mean it will work out that way but it can if we want it badly enough.

fully automated luxury space anarchism for all!!
I agree. Some stuff in my job would be helpful if a machine did it.
My industry though probably will always rely on humans as the go to. Auto detailing.

There’s just certain processes that hand washing or paint correction, etc should be monitored by a human eye.

I can’t say the same for warehouse workers. Lifting heavy things all day. At some point we need to embrace technology as help than conspiracy

Yep....with our blessing! That’s what FEAR does. It dehumanizes. But keep listening to the powers that be....

I guess China is the model we all want to emulate now.

So, now you have men, women and robots all competing for the same jobs in many sectors. I think its obvious which of those three groups is going to be left by the wayside and I’ll leave the societal ramifications of that to the imagination.

Of what use are you going to be to the ruling elite, lounging around all day unemployed? How will you maintain your existence? Incidentally, the rise of the machines will force the hand of many gov’ts in regard to depopulation. They’ll have no choice but to get rid of useless eaters.

The other choice would be a form of subsisting off the land. Kinda like the little communes formed by out-of-work Greeks during the crippling austerity years.

You have to overthrow the current system and the elites before it could work. People can set up factories in their garages with 3D printers and the like, focus on art and creativity. There’s always going to be some work to do just less and for more than we do now. This is again in an Society that provides food, water, shelter and healthcare, a mix of socialist ideals with markets not capitalism.
Which is why i think the four-day work week will ultimately become a thing. The Pope, in his encycical, already said that we need a day off in the week not to work to preserve the environment.
