They slap a rainbow on everything to make their company look good and make a bunch of money off of the LGBT community but they don’t actually do anything to help LGBT people in need. It’s just marketing
A bunch.of money?....from a 5% demographic? With the risk.of you losing a larger share of your market?....What type of marketing is that?

They obviously aren’t losing anything since they continue to do it. Corporations only do things if they are profitable. And they are making a lot of money form the millions of LGBT people as well as LGBT allies in a time of high demand (pride month). And again, it is very much a public relations thing because they can make their company look good and supportive with practically no effort. Every company changes their logo to a rainbow in June, which is free and takes no work, but they get the benefit of appearing accepting of the LGBT community. Many companies also release one of their products in a rainbow theme for pride month which is an obvious cash grab. After pride month is over, they go back to not caring... they continue to discriminate LGBT people in the hiring process. It was all just marketing to them.

What rights are exactly being abused of LGBT people that justifies such sweeping social changes to the other 95% of the planet such as being liable to arrest for misgendering a person and having our children be taught there is no such thing as a boy or a girl?
.
The laws on the books concerning misgendering someone involve repeated and deliberate misgendering. I'm not keen on those laws, since you, I'm an anarchist. At the same time, in order to actually get thrown in jail for it, you have to actively be a jerk to someone.

As in, you have to actively go out of your way to cause another human being distress.

You need to actually understand how marketing works.

To begin with, the average consumer is too apathetic to have strong opinions about something like this. Even if they personally think homosexuality is disgusting and/or sinful, few feel strong enough to actually obtain from buying the things they like. Boycotts seldom, if ever, work.

Secondly, outrage marketing is a thing and has proven to be highly effective. Remember when Nike did that advertisement with Colin Kaepernick? There was outrage, videos of people destroying their Nike products, and people claiming that Nike went woke were going to go broke. But stock and sales went up. Everyone raging about it giving them free promotion.

Lastly, just because LGBT people make up only 5% of the general population, that doesn't mean that they are only 5% of Hollister's market. In my completely anecdotal experience, the only people I ever knew who actually wore the brand, regularly, were gay dudes and fratboys.

Not in the media, not in the music industry, not in advertising....they are over represented here by a large margin for such a minority.

Are you claiming all this is to get better job opportunities for gay people?

Know the difference between social justice and social engineering. That would be a good start.

I think I have a pretty good understanding of it, it's my career now.

I can only comment for here in the UK but the spotlight on LGBT community related stories on BBC news which runs continuously for 6 hours every morning is disproportionate to the problem of gay people getting a fair crack at a job. This is about conditioning a new generation of kids to abandon the concept of gender.

It's the beginning of a new age mindset.

So of you understand how it works, I'm sure you know that outrage marketing, at least in the US has proven very effective. And also, you're well aware that not all demographics are uniform across the board.

That’s factually false. There is discrimination in various areas and fields including the entertainment industry and media. And they are definitely not over represented. In fact, they’re still underrepresented as a whole. People are still being denied jobs for being LGBT. It is slowly improving but it’s certainly still present. And LGBT people don’t have legal protections against discrimination so it makes discrimination a lot more common. A few music videos don’t represent an entire industry. None of those music videos were even featuring LGBT artists except for Lady Gaga so I don’t know why you think they are relevant. Pink and CharlieXCX are literally straight women. Just because there are instances where LGBT people are represented doesn’t mean that discrimination doesn’t occur. Lady Gaga being able to be a successful bisexual artist doesn’t mean that no one has been fired or denied opportunities for being bisexual.

Yes outrage marketing is required in outrageous times.

Yes that's my point, in the most influential areas in our lives it's over represented, this is called social engineering

Yes and that’s equivalent to harassment which is a crime. So when you harass someone whether through misgendering or not, they can seek legal action against you. But randomly or accidentally or even deliberately misgendering someone without harassing them is not a legal matter.

It's about effeminising men, masculating women and blurring the genders. That's what is staring you straight in the face.

....jobs?.....you're having a laugh.

It's about numbers. Look at the view counts combined for those 4 videos it's over half a billion views. Whst a wonderful way of conveying a message to such large numbers of people of different countries and different religions....music. No politician could achieve that.

That’s what discrimination entails... not hiring someone or not treating them equally based upon an aspect of who they are. LGBT people have no federal protections against discrimination like everyone else does and they still continue to face discrimination in employment as well as housing and in other areas. So they can be fired or evicted or outright not hired in the first place for being an LGBT+ person.

It doesn’t matter how many people watch a Lady Gaga music video, that doesn’t change the fact that LGBT people do face discrimination in employment. Representation and discrimination are two different things. Just because a gay person shows up in a music video doesn’t mean that the industry hasn’t discriminated against them.

I've never filled out am application form for a job that has asked me to disclose my sexual preferences and I've never felt the urge to bring it up myself during a job interview so why is it relevant? Just apply for the job on your merits and don't use your sexual orientation as a reason to gain any more consideration than a straight applicant.

That isn't what outrage marketing is. Surely, if you're really into marketing you know what I'm talking about. A brand, deliberately doing something provocative to get social media actively talking about it. I.E.: Free advertising and brand recognition.

I mean if it wasn't for this thread, I'd have forgotten Hollister even existed.

Yes that's my point, in the most influential areas in our lives it's over represented, this is the called social engineering
And you're completely missing mine. Or deliberately misinturpting it. So I'll break it down.

I used to spend a lot of time hanging around goths. Long before LGBT became socially acceptable. In the "scene", there were considerably more openly LGBT people than you would have found in the general population since they were met with general acceptance. This isn't the only example; you'd find more in artistic careers, fashion, even tabletop role-playing, and board game communities.

I don’t think you understand how discrimination works because no one is gaining more consideration for being LGBT, they are actually considered less than straight and cisgender people. Employers have discriminated against LGBT people who were not hiding in the closet about it or who were outed, that doesn't mean that they filled out their sexuality on a form. That’s not how it works.
