Cipro poisoning

Ciprofloxin is an antibiotic, a fluoroquinolone, chemo type drug.

I was inpatient at the hospital this last week due to high fever and abdominal pain, where they discovered via CT scan I have complex diverticulitis.

Immediately, they gave me an IV drip for two different antibiotics to kill my infection.

Flagyl, and Cipro.

I was told my attending nurse they will start me on each one at a time to see if I have a reaction.

I was so heavily doped up on morphine that I couldn't form thought let alone tell them if the drugs were making me worse. And I probably couldn't anyway due to my extreme pain.

After 4 days of being in the hospital with no food or water, 10+ bags of antibiotics, several blown out veins, and barely able to walk or eat I am discharged.

I'm told to go home and take Cipro and flagyl by mouth for two weeks.

I'm disoriented and hallucinating and considering suicide, and panicking constantly.

"Huh wonder what the side effects of these meds are" I says

Flagyl is a known carcinogen, but that's not nearly as horrifying as Ciprofloxin.

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Stop using ciprofloxacin and call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:

  • severe dizziness, fainting, fast or pounding heartbeats;
  • sudden pain, snapping or popping sound, bruising, swelling, tenderness, stiffness, or loss of movement in any of your joints;
  • diarrhea that is watery or bloody;
  • confusion, hallucinations, depression, unusual thoughts or behavior;
The doctor and nurses were watching for me to have an adverse reaction in the hospital, and I told them repeatedly for days I was having hallucinations and I clearly had disorganized thinking because I couldn't answer their questions very well and just straight up ignored this.

I have stopped taking it and I'm feeling a little more lucid this afternoon.

I hear horror stories of folks permanently disabled mentally, neurologically and physically because of taking as little as two doses of this garbage.

I need an alternative because I still need to kill my infection but I can't even get ahold of a doctor because America ya know

Yes I sure am ahaha. It makes me slightly nauseous but that's fine, most strong antibiotics will.

But God, Cipro. Hot danger!
Yeah side effects can be shocking for any drug, depending on the individual.
Do you know what caused the diverticulitis develop?

Not sure really. I eat a terrible diet and drink a lot so that's probably why.

I've never had trouble with constipation in my life, at least that didn't resolve by drinking a couple glasses of water so.

I guess like over 60% of people have diverticulosis but rarely does anyone get diverticulitis.

Just happened I guess lol.

Though I'm happy to announce I am officially quitting alcohol consumption effective immediately. And when I'm better I'm going to eat healthier.

I thought because I'm only 28 and in relatively good health I could drink like a fish and eat whatever I wanted without worrying about it.

I'm pretty stupid like that.

Weird.. I would have thought the same. That's pretty young. But you may want to just go to the ER , or call at minimum your GP to get a substitute (or whatever) for the cipro. o_O
And *insist* on being helped. So sorry you had to go through this. :(

I'm going to call my doctor in a few hours to see if I can be seen or if they can at least suggest what to do.

I feel a lot less paranoid and depressed about the situation since it's almost out of my system completely. It takes like 22 hrs to leave all the way.

But it's night and day how I feel taking flagyl alone vs the last week of hell. I wanna burn the pills tbh, send them to hell where they belong.

Actually I don't even wish this "medicine" on anyone in hell either. It's too harsh a punishment tbh

Iam sorry about everything you had to go through. Lemons are antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal. You can squeeze 3-4 of them and drink the concentrate juice every 3hrs (thats about 12 lemons) for just one day. It will kill the bacteria and you'll feel fine at the end of it.
With that much vitamin C intake, its not advisable to combine it with drugs but the decision remains yours. Its also best not eat anything while you clear out your system (9hrs)

Added benefit of lemons is a detox. You'll also feel super hungry (if you decide not to eat) because the atomic structure of lemon juice is similar to that of our digestive enzymes.

Hope you get well soon!

Cipro should be taken off the market except in extreme cases.

They gave me a cousin of cipro for an infection I didn't know I had (went to the doctor for a different reason - was told I had a UTI) and all it did was make me sicker for a week. They knew I have a bad liver due and that class of antibiotics are hepatotoxic. But they did anyway.
