‘No safe space for children’: UNICEF
The UN agency for children’s Regional Director for Middle East and North Africa Adele Khodr has urged world leaders to secure a ceasefire deal, warning that the daily violence in Gaza should not be the “new normal”.
“With each day passing, the violence intensifies in
#Gaza: small children’s bodies being pulled out from under the rubble, injured children crying in fear with no safe space or place remaining for them,” she posted on X.
“The daily violence should not become the new normal. World leaders have to act to save children’s lives. A ceasefire is needed now.”
Germans protest at hearing on legality of phrase “from the river to the sea”
Pro-Palestine activists have gathered in front of a court in the German capital, Berlin, during a hearing on the criminalization of chanting, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.”
Videos posted by activists on social media and verified by Al Jazeera, shows dozens gathering in front of the court building wearing the Palestinian keffiyeh, waving Palestinian flags and chanting the slogan.
Police clashed with demonstrators, leading to several arrests.
The slogan, calling for freedom for Palestinians from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea, has drawn scrutiny during Israel’s war on Gaza as pro-Palestinian demonstrators across the Western world continue to employ it.

Potential polio outbreak in Gaza a major concern
There’s been one case discovered, and there is real worry that the virus is going to start spreading rapidly, given that all of the wastewater treatment plants in Gaza have been destroyed.
The United Nations says that it has 1.9 million doses of the polio vaccine ready to go. But they can’t deliver them without a ceasefire.
We heard from a doctor who is actually in Gaza with Save the Children right now, talking about the challenging situation there and the need for this vaccine, given that 50,000 children have been born in the last 10 months and have not had access to regular vaccinations they normally get.
Other children may have been vaccinated at some point, but have not kept up with their schedules. So they say that this is particularly crucial for children and for the health and safety of the entire area.
