And when Simon Peter said- “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.' Jesus replied “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven" (Matthew 16:13-17)
So if Jesus was God, why didn't Jesus say "Wrong, I'm God himself"?

Yes they reject him as the son of God although they accept him as His messenger at the same time.
