Twin flames is one of the most evil, most cunningly insidious beliefs in the newage movement (apart from their "ascension" belief which is like the rapture and Heavens Gate).
Twin flames is first off a superstition (it may have some kind of kabbalistic origin via Tzimtzum but I can't say) which states that you share a soul with another person and that you are meant to find that exact person who shares the other half of your soul and have a relationship with them. This means that even if you are already married (like what happens with a lot of women who start getting into newage stuff), then you divorce them in order to look for this 'twin flame'. It has a sociopathic element here.
How would they find this "twin flame"? well there is no rational, logic, objective or even practical explanation of this, the person who believes this newage idea simply just has an emotion and then associates it with this idea and then claims they've finally found it.

I cannot stress how much I despise everything newage, it literally destroys marriages and relationships.

The idea of Twin Flames / Soul Mates / Other Half goes back to the Ancient Greeks…

Btw @Infinityloop - I liked your post but couldn’t “like” it as you appear to mix up the idea of taking 2 Thessalonians 2 seriously with the New Age.

The principle of the Rapture (ie departure before a time of judgement) is certainly expressed by Paul, but is also woven into the OT - e.g.

Isaiah 26 (worth reading the context too btw)

20Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast.

I don't see anything wrong with soulmates? Or people being bound by God's will? These things tend to get twisted by the new age so people don't believe in them if they hate that stuff... But let's be real, it isn't always new age, and God would want us to be with our soulmates. There's too much black and white going on, and it's sad to see that on a truth site.

I think you miss my point in mentioning it.

In the context of the above post, I'm not making any polemical stabs at you (or to argue for or against). I am pointing out (without going into detail above) that the New age "Ascension" belief is directly influenced by the Rapture theology found in some forms of Premillenial Protestant Christianity (such as your own).

While it has caused some bad problems from time to time in the Christian context, it has been even worse in the New age context under the form of the "Ascension" doctrine because it has led to many people committing suicide. It is akin to what Heaven's Gate believed about the comet, but instead of a comet, the most common form of the new age "Ascension" belief entails 'ascending into the 5th dimension". These ideas seem to have grown even more rapidly in social media by kids these days too.
While they preach these things about 'positive energy' and 'love' and other terms within their belief system, people who get hooked on the "ascension" belief usually become chronically depressed, many of them end their lives, many of them never get out of therapy.
Like with a lot of Gnostic beliefs, they believe that we're somewhere we shouldn't be, that this life is not real and so forth. It's one of many of the schizophrenic elements promoted within new age belief.

Many of these "Ascension" people also use the number 144,000 as well, albeit they don't use any of the context given in the Apocalypse of St John.

God Willing something for you like a marriage or a child (both are inevitable anyway as God Wills everything, good and bad), is a completely different thing to the idea that you possess half of a soul and that you have to scrap reality for finding this other half of your soul.

Soul mates, to me, seems like a Hallmark or rom-com movie trope. I wanted to believe in it, but honestly real love is agape love not eros or romantic love. That ebbs and flows with sex drive and growing older. Real love is sacrificial, which most people don't understand, myself included. I wanted to love a certain man sacrificially and planned to, but it was unrequited even though he made the first moves. I've had a front row seat to my parents' and others' terrible marriages where longevity doesn't equal happiness in marriage. Where one sacrifices 100% and the other only when they feel like it. Yes, I'm jaded and think soul mates is a load of crap. Real love is two people deciding to love one another and refusing to give up on one another. So, in a sense, I've seen that bit, yet both need to give 100%. I've seen one person get taken advantage, but then that person also made me a sounding board and complained. Anyway, long story short, soul mates seems like a load of crap to me. Hence why sometimes arranged marriages actually worked. They married and learned how to love each other instead of marrying for sex confused with love and realized they made a mistake but just decided to live with it for 50 years.

Arranged marriages? No sorry, that's just cruel.
Well, maybe not for today, yet it worked out well for a Japanese family I knew. The woman had a choice as for who she married. First guy seemed too perfect and too rich, like he'd treat her like a possession. Second guy had big ears and all she could think of was big eared children. Third guy was slightly late but brought her a snack. That's the one she picked. :)

I dunno, but with a 50% or higher divorce rate...looks like if people have soul mates that they're either too busy looking for them and leaving their spouse or they don't and leave their spouse anyway. Sometimes for legit reasons like adultery, abuse and/or addiction. It's unsexy, but I think it's 2 people on the same page willing to really commit. Those people seem rare these days.

A lot of (so called) Christians dump anything they do not understand and will not even try to understand into the "New Age" category. It's a loose term for anything spiritual that is not a religion per se. I agree though that the movements started by the likes of Blavatsky and Alice Bailey are more corrupt and wrong than what they claim to be, but let us not throw the baby out with the bathwater.
They do have knowledge of things that work, but they view them in an intellectual manner only and not spiritual. In the case of Alice Bailey for example, she used the (correct) notion of reincarnation to justify the murder of millions who will not bend the knee to the NWO, as these souls will simply reincarnate after. But she totally ignores the suffering and trauma that will come along with their death.

Chakras exist, near death experiences happen all the time, out of body experiences too, people astral travel as well. The only problem is that the mystery schools which teach these things want control over souls in exchange. So you basically have to " sell your soul" to get powers. You can learn all those things by yourself with the help of the internet as well but may end up getting lost down rabbit holes that lead nowhere. I started getting into this because of the math I studied, which led me to the science of sacred geometry and the fractal nature of the universe. Which partially explains why pentagrams and hexagrams are used in rituals because they have a fractal geometric proportions embedded into them. I never did any rituals though I looked at it merely with a sense of curiosity.

TLDR Best to stick with the Bible for healing and guidance as it was converted from esoteric knowledge to exoteric for everyday people. Faith is as important as knowledge.

This Twin soul's belief is not practical, and it seems idolatrous ( like worshiping another being).
Unfortunately, variations of it are available in the best literature, magazine posts, and movies.
Many people marry with the wrong mindset and ludicrous expectations.

She got pretty lucky to be able to choose like that, to be honest..most arranged marriages aren't like this. Sadly, it's usually the women who suffer because they end up with someone abusive and nasty, and also become that man's slave in a sense. This is one of the main reasons I don't believe in it. We can't force people to love each other..I think getting to know each other first is good, and if it works out, we get married. So she definitely was lucky to choose in this situation cause it seems rather rare.

I find it odd that people will look for their soulmates when they are already married. When I speak of soulmates, I'm talking of those people who are single and haven't found their right guy/girl yet. When they finally do find the one they are to be with, they connect really well and date for a while THEN they get married. I agree that it's not right to search for soulmate when already married, cause why marry if they haven't found them, yet? Just doesn't make sense.
I'm not giving up hope for this even if people on this site seem to be against the idea for some reason

You may have forgotten, but you made this great thread that sort of addresses this topic:
