Since 2020, we've actually been living through a planned recession.

At the moment the UK is committed to cutting greenhouse gases by a third by 2020.

However a new report from the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research said these targets are inadequate to keep global warming below two degrees C above pre-industrial levels.
The report says the only way to avoid going beyond the dangerous tipping point is to double the target to 70 per cent by 2020.

This would mean reducing the size of the economy through a "planned recession".

Kevin Anderson, director of the research body, said the building of new airports, petrol cars and dirty coal-fired power stations will have to be halted in the UK until new technology provides an alternative to burning fossil fuels.
"To meet [Government] targets of not exceeding two degrees C, there would have to be a moratorium on airport expansion, stringent measures on the type of vehicle being used and a rapid transition to low carbon technology," he said.

Prof Anderson also said individuals will have to consume less.
"For most of the population it would mean fairly modest changes to how they live, maybe they will drive less, share a car to work or take more holidays in Britain."

More than 190 countries are due to meet in Copenhagen in December to decide a new international deal on climate change. Speaking at an Oxford University conference on the threat of climate change, Profjkj Anderson said rich countries will have to make much more ambitious cuts to have any chance of keeping temperature rise below four degrees C.

"If we do everything we can do then we might have a chance," he said.

So I'm sat here with my morning coffee and BBC news is on. I can't quite believe what I've just heard.

We have the two usual highly preened news anchors speaking to two guests about the impending 80% increase in people's fuel bills in October.

So the conversation moves on to how the poorest people in the country will be penalised the most because they use pre payment meters and the additional tariffs incurred means they pay more than anybody else.

This is pretty much how the conversation went from here...

Charlie State (news anchor) - "So what happens when somebody gets to the situation when they just can't put any more money in their meter, there's just no money left. Surely the energy company can't cut that person's electricity supply off?"

On hearing this I nearly spat out my coffee.

The way a pre payment meter actually works is that you pay for your electricity before you use it, when your payment gets used up your electricity goes off. It will not go on again until you put more money into your meter via a pre credited payment card.

The fact that the BBC are unaware of this just goes to show how ignorant they are about the real world.

Hear it yourself at the 3 hr 32 minute mark.

This Audi commercial was suppose to be funny back in 2010 when it played during the Super Bowl. I wasn't laughing then or now.
Dream Police by Cheap Trick re-recorded as Green Police.

Very interesting developments...to say the least!
