Rather than the military service itself. I think it was the thought that he has spent half of his life now that tormented him. And the military is not an environment for a person like him or jj0ng.
He is babyish when the cameras are on. But in Interviews about his solo career he becomes a very serious person. When they asked him about his interests in interviews for Superm promo he said I like Philosophical concepts. His 'Peculiar' interests include Philosophy, Religion, Relativity Theory, Quantum Mechanics and he loves both making and watching documentaries. K3y scolded him for talking too much about documentaries he watched about environmental issues and quantum mechanics during their 13th debut live when he thought he was going to talk about 'fun' things.

If these are his actual interests and judging from the themes he has discussed in his music like his constant struggles with fame and fear of being treated like a product thrown off once consumed it paints him as a very serious person and nothing like the baby persona sh@wols are used to. I have a feeling deep down he is aware of the darkness of the industry and knows the reality of an idol's life. He had probably been using work as a form of escape from his dark thoughts but in the military he had to face all his demons and being constantly exposed to Sasaengs one of the worst things this industry has produced would've aggravated his problems even further. He needs proper therapy to help him sort out his problems and fans need to stop treating him like a baby. There is a difference between being protective and turning someone into a walking meme
He said he skipped kindergarten because the idea of a normal life where every person is told that graduating from college then working for a company is the way to live a good life sounded like brainwashing to him. He didn't want to live like a robot and military is a place where you are stripped of all of your individuality, freedom and taught to act like a mindless robot he was never going to have a good time there.

Fans turned him into a meme and he's called their baby, and even the industry's baby. It's worse than Jk, and I thought no one had it worse than him. I can see him getting depressed in his late 20s for the reasons you said. Many people become depressed at that time.

He seems to overwork as a way to avoid thinking about or remembering stuff that's happened. That's not healthy, but it worked until the military.

I remember there was some article dated 2014-15 where some sh@wol who was also an autistic person himself said that T@e acts like an someone with Asperger's syndrome but sh@wols reported it and kicked that person out of the fandom for trying to diagnose him since having Autism is still seen as a negative thing even in the "Woke west. But I honestly think he could be he had issues in kindergarten and he has a pretty strong fidgeting habit something common among Autistic people he has problems with handling and expressing his emotions as well, often in sh1nee's concerts when other members were crying or being emotional he was usually smiling or trying to play around which would not be considered appropriate reaction in those situations. He was quite and very shy at the time of debut and him getting obsessed or fixed on things whether it be kkoong, certain foods or his career is like you said a sign of autism as well. And autistic people are often gifted in arts. I think if he is autistic he might not even know it himself since many children go undiagnosed in Korea. He is quite brainy actually I think he could have higher than above or at least average IQ he won city level math olympiad in elementary school and is pretty quick at solving math problems at variety shows. He won on Problematic men and Idol troops in the episodes he appeared and is into science and was reading books on quantum mechanics lately but well he is also into Anime and Manga so the guy's Interests are all over the place.

Even the book he was reading "Regarding the pain of others" by Susan Sontag is a very serious book and not a book an airheaded person would enjoy reading.
I think Sh@wols took the 'Baby' image a little too far. All sh1nee members are still shoehorned into images that were imposed on them at the time of debut. 0new is still the sunshine, the chicken lover, m1nho still the flaming charisma who enjoys sports, and k3y sh1nee's mom and the Diva of the group. All of them should be treated as humans not 2d fictional characters with cardboard cutout personalities
edit: I watched some videos about common symptoms of Asperger's and as a Sh@wol and someone who once ult him he shows 80-90% of all the symptoms this person described in the video I strongly believe now that he has an undiagnosed Asperger's syndrome.

In another video of this same person he also mentions people with Asperger's having short term memory loss and depression being common symptoms among people who have Asperger's and T@e has both these issues

I'm feeling like IU's agency is somehow connected to their cases. There was a sasaeng talking about how there was something going on behind the scenes between IU and Ta3yeon and it made me wonder what else could happen that connects IU to all three people (jj0ng, sull1, g00 hara) as well as ta3yeon, and even ta3min in the coming months.
