Are People On Here Genuinely Scared Of Watching Certain Movies?

If so, that is crazy. I've been watching them all my life and am not corrupted. The Neverending Story and Return to Oz being the first. Yagh! I am dangerous.

But I DO see their truly magical propaganda. As an adult I can question these things.

For me "scared" is the incorrect word. I was not scared while watching that type of movie, but afterwards and for several days I felt like things were watching me and that my thought patterns were darker.
Because I am a sensitive person I know for me it is unwise to watch scary movies.

Ive never liked scary movies, if I watch one I cant sleep for days and have to have the lights on....although there are some exceptions I did watch growing up like Chucky, Freddy, Pet Cemetery, Scream...but other than that I stay away...I heard The Conjuring 2 brought evil spirits or something like that to you after watching...I cant remember where I read it but no thanks!

One movie that seriously gives me the willies though is one VC has done an article on, called 'Neon Demon'. Highly unpleasant watch, that. Another is 'Downloading Nancy', about a grown-up victim of child sexual abuse petitioning a creep online to come kill her.
I refuse to watch movies that exist for the sole purpose of being obscene though, so I wont touch 'A Serbian Film' with a ten foot pole.

I'm also genuinely disturbed by Michael Bay's 'Transformer' movies. I think that much money, time, marketing and effort put into something so ultimately worthless should be a crime against humanity. Imagine the lives that could have been saved if all that work and capital was put toward something benign.

The movie which scared me the most is probably Alien. I was twelve maybe when I watched it, alone, in the dark. That was shocking. But I loved it. And I still do. That is what most of the movies today are lacking: tension and not showing everything, which makes tension as well.

The Excorzist and The Omen are also very good movies to me. Movies today are mostly working with those super fast cuts and the camera is movin the whole time from one side to the other, up and down. That's how you hide bad special effects. Scares me none.

Yes, I know people like huge, extravagant special effects with big stars. But I really don't think it's necessary to spend $100-300 million on a movie. It seems like a bit of a waste. Those are the kinds of movies I tend not to watch. Big budget blockbusters with A-list celebrities don't do much for me. I'd rather watch a movie with mostly unknowns and maybe one star.

Most horror movies are pretty low budget so they at least have that on their side even if people complain about everything else about them.

I loved Alien, loved the aesthetics. But I like H.R Giger anyway.

Only horror movie I recommend is The Others, it's quite good and really unexpected. Also not the shocking effects so common now.

I used to be so scared of movies like labyrinth. I used to watch never ending story and oz but never took meaning to it. Growing up and realising the truth behind it I'll definitely avoid that scary side..
