To be perfectly honest with you, Disney are CUNTS for trying to make slavery look fashionable.

Fucking disgusting!

I demand my son's or daughter's mental abilities BACK! But the cocksuckers have convinced us that nothing exists outside of materialism, when I KNOW that their filthy propaganda is GUILTY as fucking charged! I thought the government were initially supposed to be ruled over the rights of the people. The fucking OPINIONS and BELIEFS of the people.

Come on man! You can do better than throwing around words like "cocksuckers" and "cunts." But, yeah, Disney is a beast.

I'm talking about Bambi. we all laugh about how the mom deer dying traumatized us as kids and then we show it to our kids! it truly did for me. can't recall others at the moment will think...
and for me and my kid i just don't trust disney or any to provide the right moral lessons. or i just don't feel like i need them to, or for that purpose. i don't need that from any of my "entertainment"
i know nothing of despicable me just thought the title pretty strange for a kids movie.

Gotta say, I don't agree with this. Kids entertainment back in our day was indeed more scary and sad than the entertainment peddled to kids today, but that by no means made it 'damaging'. Movies like 'The Land Before Time', 'The Secret of Nihm', or 'The Dark Crystal' were indeed more frightening and had contained much more tragedy than one can find in today's kids media, and sure, the use of magic and fantasy within them could be called 'occult', but in addition to being more frightening and tragic than today's children's media, it was also smart, and contained real lessons and moral quandaries for children to hash out. In 'The Dark Crystal' for example, one sees the Skeksis draining the 'life-essence', essentially draining the soul out of these little cabbage-patch people to drink like fine liquor. Was it a scary and tragic scene? Absolutely it was, but it made you think about exploitation and how horribly wrong it is to take from others simply because you can.

The 'Despicable Me' movies are seemingly delightful little bits of fluff; nothing particularly scary happens, nothing particularly tragic happens, it all seems to be in light-hearted good fun, but what does a child learn while watching it? That its ok to be a bad guy? That servile slavery is fun?

That's not to say all modern(ish) kids media is lacking in moral messaging. 'The Incredibles' for example is total Randian propaganda; portraying the 'John Galt' family of the Incredibles struggling with the mediocrity imposed on them by a society of ungrateful, untalented parasites who go so far as to sue them for saving their lives.

Because just as back in the day, a lot of folk think kids need to learn that world is a scary place?

And the Disney versions are really sugary when you see the real ones.
I've wondered this myself. Growing up as an Open Brethren, we seldom watched TV or movies, so I have no experience with most movies and have a huge gap in my popular culture understanding. I 've seen a few with the grandkids though.
The Disney fairy tales I find bewildering. The whole point of fairy tales is to present a moral - ie when Cinderella is at her lowest and despairs, that is when help comes - never give up! This seems to hold true through different cultural versions of the same tales. Red Riding Hood - warned against going off the path....bad happens. Cause and effect. All very sensible, understandable, and evil most often gets punished, banished, or explodes in a puff and disappears (Rumpelstiltskin) - gives children closure and the hopeful idea that good and the hardworking (3 little pigs) or oppressed underdog will triumph.
However, Disney seem to have taken the morals and turned them upside down. Cinderella's sisters, instead of being punished for their treachery - get rich husbands. What the heck?? Red Riding Hood has no consequences for her disobedience because the wolf gets killed by a handy woodcutter. How did that happen?? The world does not work like this, and I think Disney makes the world a more unsettling and scary place because natural consequences and the usual rules do not apply in their bizarre sugar world.
the other thing I've noticed is spiritual themes in the movies - happy feet had some kind of wierd shamanistic thing going on with the penguins in a cave....lion king had the whole witch doctor thing happening - why do we need such blatant spiritual themes in children's movies? i don't know. Universal good morals and value yes..... religion of any kind....not necessarily necessary?

Very true. I have the original stories of the brothers Grimm and they are much closer to horror movies like Suspiria than anything Disney have done.
Yeah there's another version of Snow white too, that's called ''Black as ebony'' not very nice either.

A lot of 'fairy tales' are more like Pan's Labyrinth and that kind of thriller/horror indeed.

That Dancemoms lady makes me sick. I actually saw that episode where she said that the girls needed to appear naked with my daughter. It was one of the only episodes we watched of that show. I told her if some lady ever told me something like that and I was paying her money to teach my daughter to dance, that would be the last day she would have me as a customer. I don't know what she thought, but seriously. Never in my life would I give my money that I work for to that women. The parents are just as responsible as the media peddling this crap. Seriously, that woman works for those parents, not the other way around. As a customer, I don't have to give that lady money to teach my daughter nothing. It turned into a lesson on being an informed consumer in my house. We are not forced to buy anything.

It is challenging to deal with as a mother, but I have always recognized that I am the consumer and so I have a choice in what I buy. I don't have to buy Bratz dolls just because they are being sold. Those things were gross and weren't allowed in my house. My daughter got one for her birthday when she was real little. I think I threw it in the trash at some point after putting it where she couldn't get it. She had other toys. She didn't notice.

There has to be a balance because I need my daughter to know that she has the freedom to grow. She isn't always going to be my little baby, unfortunately. She is going to grow up and girls like clothes and makeup, but as the consumer of these products, we are never forced to buy anything.

So I think the parents are what make these things effective as programming.

Yah they start showing the girl dance group performances at around 26 minutes that are just regular performances of local dance classes. Never will I pay to have someone teach my daughter to dance like that at that age. Check it out and think about all the parents who actually pay some dance company to teach their daughters to dance like that. Like they give these people money and their daughters perform these dances for nothing but the experience. There are just so many other things we could spend our time doing together.

At minute 27 they show the clips from that show of Dance Moms. That lady was so arrogant and disgusting. She would constantly make comments about how she was practically doing these parents a favor because she was the "best." Well no, I gave birth to this little person who grows up too fast as it is, and my time and money is better spent doing something with her at home or somewhere else if this is what you are going to teach my daughter with my money taking away from the time that I could be spending with her. No one I pay money to is going to treat me like that as a customer especially if my daughter is involved.

The dance routine thing reminds me of the one in Donnie Darko, organised by a creepy teacher and Patrick Swayze's shady "fear and love" character. WhatIsReal does an interesting two-part analysis of this movie, outlining the sickness in the world:
