full spectrum lightbulbs, vitamin D!!!!, vacation? lol
I like the suggestion of vacation! :)
Unfortunately 3rd school term starts next week so that is out of the question.
I am in semi-tropics where we still have quite bright sunlight, days are shorter though.

I feel your pain! I've been coughed, chucked and sneezed on by so many of my preschoolers over the last couple of months that I've finally succumbed and got the latest head cold. I am surviving on vit c and lemsip but it's horrible. After weeks of coughing and sneezing even my usual sunny enthusiasm is waning. Actually I feel like an old wet sock.
I am keeping misery at bay by
enjoying the little bits of sunshine, wrapping up and going for walks in it whenever poss
going away every weekend in our bus- could be local even and even just one night. but just somewhere beautiful and different to own four walls,
Playing photo slideshows and looking at photo books of other holidays around NZ
Planning next holiday in my head prob coromandel yay
Enjoying winter stuff- midwinter party, local live music nights, having people over and taking pictures of winter things
When I get time, making things- teaching resources, felting, doing jigsaw and dreaming of spring

Winter chest coughs are terrible!!!!!
You should come and visit Australia for your next holidays. Just don't come to the tropics in Summer unless you love hot muggy weather.

Here it is Winter in the Southern Hemisphere.
It has struck again for me. I don't get it as badly as when I lived much further south but I have got the "blah" feeling badly.
What do fellow SADers do when winter hits to lift your mood/s?
jo and/or chris: its essential to eat heavier, denser foods in the winter and lighter foods and lots of fruit in the summer. eating seasonally helps a GREAT deal. you should not eat out of season if you can help it. there is a probiotic factor that plays a role in this as well. the gut flora are supposed to change season to season. helping them along will probably help you along.

Yay oz! We went across the ditch to the gold coast for our honeymoon... seeing Australia zoo was awesome! Want to see great barrier reef one day too, so it's on the list hopefully in the next few years before global warming wreaks it. *sigh* back to work to save up!

Bump.

I find exercise helps, although with some recurrent knee pain it is a bit tricky these days.

Oh, I feel your pain. Right now I'm so busy that I can't even get time to even notice SAD, even tough the cloudy weather hits me hard.

When I get that hour or two of free time I like to paint sunny fields (not very good at oil painting, things end up like a so-so Van Gogh impression).

And my parrots manage to distract me from 'meh' toughts. Love those little fellas

Listening to relaxing music, looking at pictures of colorful birds or animals I've never seen before or some amazing landscapes, cooking up a new recipe, baking, reading inspiring material, lighting some candles, exercising in the morning so at night I get tired enough to fall asleep quicker (if that works for you) and I know I posted some more suggestions on another thread but for now this is what I can remember.

I live in the Southern Hemisphere too, but I feel the opposite way. It's always hot here, we don't have more than a few weeks of cold in a year. And it's not an okay hot, no. It's hot like in being burn alive kind of hot, I hate it so much. I don't have the energy to do anything when it's hot like that, I'm always feeling down. When the cold days came, then it is when I feel alive. Right now, summer is knocking at the door and I just can't, I need to move to a colder place. :/
(sorry for the rant)

It's understandable. I don't care for either extreme in temperature. I can get a little SAD in the summer, too.

One of my favorite professors retired yet still taught in Wisconsin in the fall/winter and Florida in the spring/summer before he died of cancer. He liked extreme temps. Never understood that. You'd think it would be the opposite maybe. Escape from the cold in the winter and escape from extreme heat in the summer. :)

That's messed up Noname. Even though I do not live in the Southern Hemisphere, I can tell you that I feel the same as you. This almost year-long heat has become very hard to tolerate. We're in October and the sun wants to burn through your skin still like if it was summer. I HATE it, I don't hate the sun I hate that the rays are piercing through, it didn't do that before. Right now that we have cooler temps, it's such an awesome relief!!! I love the cold and I feel like I can function better too. I am MUCH happier and I'm enjoying things much more. I do want to move to a place where it's cold most of the year. I am so done with this unbearable almost never-ending heat. I miss the seasons, we just have summer and "winter" now.

That's a good thought Dalit, I think I'm getting sad in the summer too. It's hard to do anything outside. a few years ago you were able to BBQ outside and now you can't event do that or just chill in the sun. Now you can't even be outside 5 minutes without feeling like you're being roasted by the sun much less an hour. The summer does make me feel down just because of the unbearable new heat we now have to deal with. Gotta stay holed in with the AC, no choice.
