They couldn't, if they didn't have the knowledge of good and evil, right from wrong. But imo, they did--> the tree was forbidden, and they understood that.

They knew eating from the tree was wrong, and they seemed to understand Death as a bad or evil thing to be avoided, at all cost... so they also knew why. Again, this is the conclusion I've drawn after years of thinking, ok but wth, and not being able to see it.

It was a rough deal-- some commentary points out they were made like the gods, only in the sense their eyes were opened-- as specifically promised-- and this only, to their own nakedness. -.-

Knowing good from evil-- evil of which they were aware- but as something apart from themselves. Now, they knew evil from within, because they embodied it. *

... the tempter kept the promise to the ear. [AND, NOW...] Eve knew good and evil, but only by feeling evil within herself. It was by moral degradation, and not by intellectual insight...
It's...a MYTH!

It’s a folk memory of the neolithic revolution.
I used to think that…

The Eden story serves as a good warning of how Satan influences people like a sly scheming snake-

SATAN - "Hmm, that apple looks yummy.."
EVE - "I'm not supposed to touch it"
SATAN - "Don't be daft, if you don't have it Adam will, and then laugh at you for being a dumb little girly, you know how men are"
EVE - "I'm forbidden to have it"
SATAN - "Hmm...Your skin looks a bit dry, fresh fruit would work wonders for your complexion"
EVE - "Leave me alone!"
SATAN - "It'll just rot if left on the tree, what a waste.."
EVE - "Shut up"
SATAN - "Apples are good for teeth, you don't want yours to turn black do you?"
EVE - "Oh be quiet!"
SATAN - "You'll get scurvy without vitamins and your gums will puff up like a boxers gumshield"..
EVE - "Clam up!"
SATAN - "Okay okay, scuse me for breathing, none of my business if you want to end up looking like a cross between Mike Tyson and Ugly Betty"..
EVE - "Hmm okay, I'd better eat it, but don't tell anyone"

SATAN - "Sure, sure, you can trust me"..

You'd better argue that out with JC when you meet him-
Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:2/6)
Jesus was a very great man; on par with Krishna, Buddha, Lao Tzu. I hope to meet them all, eventually.

Obviously they are calling it a bottleneck, but interesting nevertheless.

Krishna looked like a tranny and i've never heard of that Lao Tzu bloke; Buddha seems the best of them but even so he was just a human giving us his best guesses and hunches 500 years before Jesus..:)

And then we have Mitochondrial Eve:-

Very interesting.

Dating through mtdna is about the same as dating with radiocabon decay.

They thought it had always been the same, that there was some nice smooth curve where you could just read the date off.

Lol.

No, wrong.
And they change the dates again and again as they try and calibrate the stupid curve.

Absolute dating seems to be some kind of fools quest.

I feel like people aren't really engaging with the whole different interpretation of this story. Not surprising, as people have very strong attachments to literalist or "uncomplicated" explanations. Obviously the whole thing is a myth, to think otherwise would require serious self-deceit. Not that I'm saying that the evolutionary theory explains everything, I don't see how it can explain consciousness in particular.

Yes. Sorry.
I just went back and read the OP.
It is very intelligent and well reasoned.

Tbh, I always felt that God was being very unfair. That he made humans the way we are, set an impossible test, and then punished us for failing.

Humans were like children.
He should have put the tree where kids couldn't reach.
Like medicine.

If you ever get chance @Cintra read Perelandra by C.S. Lewis. The central question is the fairness of an arbitrary rule that God has asked you to keep. Do we choose obedience or rebellion?

You can know good and evil by choosing good. Like all great advertising professionals, the serpent managed to convince them that what they already had was not enough.
