Hey everyone :)

I wanted do discuss about sleep paralysis, not the scientific aspect but the spiritual one. Ive been having it for more than 10 years in my life and I can tell you it's no fun at all. As a christian im terrified when it occurs because it really feels like some entity is in the room and trying to harm you... Ive heard many theories about it but there's so much mystery around it.
Do you know why it happens ? What To do To get rid of it ? Im really curious to hear your opinion on this.

Sleep paralysis is nothing more then a demon trying to hold you down. They are so weak and pathetic they can only come at you when you are about to go to sleep and are almost defenseless. If you sleep on your side you're a less enticing target for them. Most i know who suffer from sleep paralysis have said they sleep on there back. I assume you do too.

I can garauntee you a way to get rid of it. If you recite ayatul kursi before sleep the Almighty will send an angel to protect you through out the night.

Since I'm pretty sure you can't do this you should at least play it in your home before you go to sleep.
Here's one of my favorite reciters reading ayat kursi. Give it a listen.

Ayatul kursi drives demons away. Your problem will disappear if you put this into practice. I garauntee it will work if you apply it to your life. Make it a habit every night before you go to sleep and your problem will disappear if God wills.

Thank you very much for your answer :)

Someone told me it was a demon too, i've heard someone tell me "they work on me" because i can cure burned people praying jesus but i did not understand what this person said by "they"

I sleep on my stomach and on my back and it happens on both sides, i cant sleep on the side tho it hurts my back.

I must confess i found a solution 4 years ago and it's smoking marijuana before sleeping but i dont want this in my life anymore since im not a smoker in the first place and I dont want to hurt my body. Everytime i tried stopping to smoke it comes back and I get back to it. Im clean for 2 weeks now but i cant sleep well because of this. Im trying to "fight" it without smoking through praying but its tough.

Ill definitely give your prayer a try tonight thank you a lot

When it happens repel it in the name of Jesus.
Also have this verse in mind when you're about to sleep :
"I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O Lord , make me dwell in safety."
Psalms 4:8

I couldn't possibly know why it's happening to you but my sympathies are with you. I've had sleep paralysis before, nothing too bad though. Demons can't possess an individual with the Holy Spirit but they can oppress you.

It could be because of your own/someone else's sin towards you, maybe something generational. Is there witchcraft in your family (history)? Or then it's simply the enemy's way to try and bring you down. Whatever is the reason, I'd suggest commanding the entities to leave in the name of Jesus Christ, as his name bears all authority. A more lively prayer life never hurts, if there's anyone who knows why it's happening and what you can do then it's God. Maybe look into scripture about rebuking demons?

Since you're a christian I'd not recommend smoking marijuana or listening to islamic prayers, sleep paralysis demons could subside temporarily to give room for other spirits/deception. Just a hunch, I don't have experience with either.

Hello there @vic and @Dodo.
The Islamic prayer mentioned by @Daze is called "the verse of the throne", and it is a description of the all-encompassing power and majesty of God. In the face of God's omnipotence, devils possess no power or control at all, except what God wills. This prayer is recited by Muslims before sleep and after daily prayers, to seek God's aid and His protection from satan. This is its meaning:

"God: there is no god but Him, the Ever Living, the Ever Watchful. Neither slumber nor sleep overtakes Him. All that is in the heavens and in the earth belongs to Him. Who is there that can intercede with Him except by His leave? He knows what is before them and what is behind them, but they do not comprehend any of His knowledge except what He wills. His throne extends over the heavens and the earth; it does not weary Him to preserve them both. He is the Most High, the Tremendous."

That could be it. Keep praying, read the bible, seek a community with living faith bc it's possible you don't have the Holy Spirit yet, I wouldn't know tho. It's okay to not be religious, what's important is a relationship with God, the father and that you have accepted Jesus.

Do you often give advice on things you have no experience with Vic? Just curious.
I will not annoy my Father by rebelling against His word. Muslims and christians do NOT pray to the same god/God.

"Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."John 14:6

Let's not derivate from sleep paralysis please this is not a thread about what faith is right or wrong. :) I am an open minded person and as long as it is god related and not satanic things im curious to hear every opinion you have and I personally think that god will not punish me for listening To daze's video as it talks about God and not gods. Ofc i cannot pray in muslim as im not muslim but i see no harm in giving it a listen and in some form it is similar to the psalms mentionned earlier.

A poor night's sleep can really throw a person off, so I empathize with you.

I haven't experienced sleep paralysis in a long time. But I don't think it's demons. The presence you feel exists solely in your mind. And sure, some demons are probably like that. The real issue is when you look at it from the perspective of the demon, the whole thing is pretty pointless.

Unless we are talking about the Succubus/Incubus. Those demons aren't there to paralyze you, though. They want to have sex with you. So it seems likely that sleep paralysis is your mind playing tricks on you, and if you get it a lot it probably has to do with your overall sleep patterns. Plus your behaviors in or around bedtime.

I relate sleep paralysis to seeing strange figures in the dark. You all probably know what I'm talking about. When you leave your coat on a chair and see it in the dark, and it looks like a dead body. That shit is freaky, and your mind believes there is a person or thing there that's not really there.

This happens when demons / evil spirits are given legal right to harrass you as a result of sin; can be your own or from a direct family member (grandparents, mother, father, husband). It can also result from someone projecting a curse onto you. Check out Minister Kevin L Ewing on youtube. He has a lot of great videos teaching and applying biblical principles. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=minister+kevin+ewing+sleep+paralysis

Trust that Jesus has given you victory; apply the principles and be a testimony for others.

Thank you for your empathy

I never experienced a succubus trying to r*pe me i know some people do.

Im going To tell you the ones that feared me the most maybe it can be easier to identify if thats a demon or not.

My very first one was when I was 17, there was a wall between my room and my older brother room, however the room was empty because he did not live here anymore. So i wake up and cant move, i start hearing his desk chair going back and forth and at the same time i hear loud and very fast knockings on the wall. I was terrified and tried to call for help or move but impossible. This one seemed to last for so long and felt so real, the intensity was getting harder and stronger. I felt like dying too, heavy heartbeats and suffocating. When i woke up i went To sleep with my mother (at 17 it is kind of shameful To do that lol and im not a person that get feared easyly) and asked Her To come check the room. Ofc it was empty.

The second one that marked me is when I left my body, it only hapenned once but i felt under my bed during a paralysis, it only lasted for seconds but then i got broughtback to my body at the speed of light and immediately woke up.

Another one that marked me is one where i slept on my stomach, i felt like someone was watching me for minutes and then it touched the top of my back with one finger and it felt like my body turning To ice, i could Feel pain...

I have done something like ~500 paralysis or something like that i did not count. Sometimes i wake up with scratching scars on my body, not deep ones but i always found it strange.

With time i got used to it kind of so most of them i can wake up easier than before and since i know whats happening now i stress less. I also have my wife helping me wake up when she sees or hear me struggle because i manage To do a little sound with my mouth.

Pot helped too and at the time it all started i was living a healthy life, no weed or any drugs, only alcohool for birthday and I never had any mental problems except for anger that sometimes go out of hand i cant control my anger sometimes (im better now tho i worked on it)

Yeah, I've never had sleep paralysis, but when I turn over half-awake in bed I find an unhappy memory of one kind or another has been inserted into my head from years before that tends to make me dwell on it and have difficulty getting back to sleep.
As a Christian, I know it's simply satan up to his tricks, so I put it out of my mind and think of nice things and go back to sleep..:)

OLD HAG SYNDROME
A while back TV screened a docu about people who had trouble sleeping, called 'Nights from Hell'.
Some sleep-walked, some lashed out screaming, but the one that interested me most was the young woman who says she sometimes suddenly finds herself awake in the night but completely paralysed, unable to move or speak.
Then a 'thing' enters the room looking like an evil old lady, it squats on her chest and begins strangling her, she then loses consciousness, and when she wakes up in the morning she's shaken but fine.
The amazing thing is that many people have experienced the same thing, they're always paralysed and its always an old woman who sits on their chest and tries to throttle them.
Doctors call it The Old Hag Syndrome, but they can't explain why its always an old woman, never an old man, or animal, or anything else.
The phenomenon is all over the net, just type 'Old Hag Syndrome'.
One possibility is that its a demon which inhabits a 'shadow-world' between waking and sleeping, and when it senses somebody has entered its realm by being only half-awake, it attacks..

That's why I feel like there's something to dig in sleep paralysis as we all have similarities in it, I personnaly have never seen the entity so I can't relate to the old woman.

I even think that sleep paralysis can explain some of our old beliefs because it feels so real, nowadays with the help of science we understand it better but someone during ancient times experiencing this must had tougher times.

Damn, that's a lot of sleep paralysis.

I used to try and sleep in my parent's room when I was a kid. One time I randomly woke up under their bed. It freaked me out bad like I just woke up and had no idea where I was. And no idea how the hell I got there.

Smoking weed helps me suppress my weird-ass dreams. But I've been trying to cut back because I tend to overdo it. Like I'll just sit around and smoke weed all day. So I'm solving one problem and creating like 5 problems in the process.

What I'm wondering is how active you are in your life. My theory is if we push ourselves to the brink of exhaustion every day, we will have zero problems sleeping. Like you are not going to pre-wake up in the paralysis stage because your body is literally wiped out.

I used to have SP every night at the beginning thats why there are so many but since I smoked it really reduced but you can be sure that every time I tried to stop, 2 or 3 nights and there you go it comes back on a regular basis...

Since weed reduces anxiety I guess it helps, i've heard other people mentionning it too on reddit forums. At this moment im not really active because of Covid I lost my job but I've always been a worker.

I noticed however that I have higher chances of having a SP if I took a nap before or during the nap. If i go to bed without being tired I also have higher chances and it makes me a late sleeper, it kinda ruined my late education as I was sleeping in class (and I had SP even in class)

We developed our sleeping problems over time, so fixing them will take an equal amount of time. That's another reason why smoking weed isn't the right tool for the job. It's quick and effective, though.

Also, being a worker isn't enough. I take like 70,000 steps a week on average. And my legs look like Jake Sully's from that movie "Avatar". It's like I need to become a marathon runner just to sleep like a normal person.

Have you tried relaxing music before bed? Or aromatherapy? I've tried listening to recordings of thunderstorms to try to sleep, but I know it's fake. A real thunderstorm would put me right to sleep though.
