Stop the EARN IT Bill Before it Breaks Encryption

The House and Senate are both pushing forward with the so-called “EARN IT” Act, a bill that will undermine encryption and free speech online. Attorney General William Barr and the DOJ have demanded for years that messaging services give the government special access to users’ private messages. If EARN IT passes, Barr will likely get his wish—law enforcement agencies will be able to scan every message sent online.

So what? As long as people don't post messages inciting violence, terrorism or rioting etc, I'm sure they won't be rounded up..:)

yeah! civil liberties? right to privacy? who cares about THAT!

do you know how utterly broad the definitions for violence and terrorism are? just being on this forum, tidal, marks you as a potential "domestic terrorist".

I've been talking on many forums for the past 18 years and the "men in black" haven't come for me yet..:)
There are literally millions of other people talking online as well, so the authorities simply don't have time to monitor every single persons posts which are mostly just mundane run-of-the-mill chitchat anyway.
I think they tend to only monitor extremist forums that preach violence and hate etc.
They also welcome tipoffs, for example a few years ago some muslim bloke said in a forum- "Watch for me on the news because I'm going to do something", so I tipped off the Feds about him and presumably they investigated him..:)

yet. as they tighten the net they will. look at china.

do you think some nerd is sitting there, checking what is said online? theyve got sophisticated AI software monitoring and collecting information. that should never stop you from saying what you want, but when your criticisms of the government become terroristic threats, theyll have all the evidence they need to imprison you.

I think they tend to only monitor extremist forums that preach violence and hate etc.
dont be naive. EVERYTHING is monitored online.

tipoffs to report our own people, not for the elite pedophiles. or how about reporting boris johnson for his illegal lockdown measures?

So what? Most of what's said by me and other people online is just harmless chat and downright-

Wouldn't it be funny if that "muslim bloke" you reported was actually an FBI operative masquerading as a muslim bloke? Or for that matter just bait?

I'm not sure I understand what you're getting at, have I done something wrong by tipping off Mulder and Scully about a potential muslim terrorist?

But Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda have ADMITTED they did 9/11, or do you think Mary Poppins dun it?.. :p

That's the third time at least you've posted the same article and claim it is evidence of some type. You need to try and dig up some more material...or just go back to posting pics of yourself with a map to your house.

I'm guessing it's one lonely life you lead....that's just going on your posting history here.

merseyrail didnt like his values... his free speech advocacy values. apparently, free speech = racism.

Morrissey posters removed from Merseyrail stations

Posters promoting Morrissey's latest album have been removed from railway stations after a commuter complained.
Adverts for the new album by the former Smiths singer have been taken down on the Merseyrail network.
Morrissey has previously expressed support for the far-right For Britain party and earlier this month wore a badge with its logo on during a TV show, but he denies he is a racist.
Merseyrail apologised and said the posters did not reflect its "values".
The adverts, which contain no political message, were removed after a traveller on a Southport service to Moorfields contacted the company to ask if it agreed with Morrissey's opinions.
The man, who asked not to be named, told the BBC he was not "offended" by the posters and did not demand they were taken down.
He said he just questioned the company on whether they were appropriate.
In a statement, Merseyrail said: "Any content used within advertising on the Merseyrail network does not reflect the organisation's values and we apologise for any offence the publication of these posters may have caused."
The company said advertising was managed by an external third party.
Morrisey has not responded to the rail company's decision. But in a message on his websiteon Friday, he said: "With voice extended to breaking point, I call for the prosperity of free speech; the eradication of totalitarian control; I call for diversity of opinion; I call for the total abolition of the abattoir; I call for peace, above all; I call for civil society."

Morrissey expressed his support for For Britain in a 2018 interview

Earlier this week, the world's oldest record shop, Spillers Records in Cardiff, took the decision to stop selling Morrissey albums.
It said on Twitter: "Morrissey's views are not in sync with ours, in fact they are at complete odds and this is why (as an independent) we are not stocking / giving our shelf space to his music."
Morrissey, 60, has denied on multiple occasions he holds racist views.
Earlier this month, the Manchester-born singer appeared on The Tonight Show in the USA wearing a For Britain badge on his jacket.
He came out in support of the partyin an interview in 2018 and in the past has criticised the production of halal meat and claimed London mayor Sadiq Khan "cannot speak properly".
I’m not being funny, but I doubt they’d sell many copies of his new album with or without the controversial views.

this kind of irks me a bit. A lot of my friends have completely turned their backs on Morrissey now, yet they’ll still have space on their shelves for pro Israel / anti Israel embargo Nick Cave. Double standards.

I’m not going to stop listening to an artist whose music shaped a large part of my life. I take great pleasure (or did, pre covid) in belting out some of his best solo songs at karaoke nights. It’s Funny watching people try and deny the greatness of his song writing (or the once greatness of it).

The comments section proves why this is a HORRIBLE idea. People speaking out against the new feature because it can easily be abused are already being condemned as racist -

"why is everyone so mad about this? if the business isn’t racist, they won’t have to worry about this. yes, this can be abused, like many other policies in our society, but it’s better to be safe than sorry, no? why are y’all about them combating RACISM??"

"Love how racists are self identifying in this thread."

"why are white people offended about this this is a great idea now i can support buisnesses that arent hateful"

"I don’t get the hate over this. this seems useful. It allows POC to avoid potentially dangerous situations & part of it is preventing onslaughts of bad “media fueled” i.e. the cancel culture everyone is so up in arms about... I wish ppl knew how to read articles before talking"

"This is absolutely amazing!! Racist establishments should be rightfully labeled and avoided. We must no longer allow racism to continue and let racist people hide behind a facade."

Who gets to define racist, hateful, fascist, dangerous? The complaint can be any of the following -
1. A real situation.
2. A 'feeling' or biased perception [waitperson didn't seem friendly enough, employees should be more diverse].
3. A political difference of opinion. Some hysterical leftists claim/believe Trump supporters are racist, which is absolute garbage, but if that's their 'opinion', they can turn this into a complaint.
4. A completely contrived false accusation for revenge, attention, lawsuit lottery.

Accusations of racism appear in the news all the time, so who over at Yelp is going to fact check/corroborate every news story -

Once again, either shut up and get in line with the left or have your business destroyed by the new Yelp label... because anti-fascism, right? I've deleted Yelp from all my devices.
Wow

does anyone use yelp?

whatever businesses are left off the racist list can simply be added by the conservatives to make everyone racist. we can all shop nowhere.
