So do you not believe in pharmacology? The brain is an organ. it operates via electrical and chemical signals. if you alter the brain chemistry, you can change a person's experience. Often for the better.
How do they work for the better..psychiatric drugs don’t solve your problems.

It depends on what your problem is. If you are delusional, and the drugs stop the delusions they have solved your problem. If you are constantly anxious without reason and the drugs calm you down, they have solved your problem. If you have trouble focusing and the drugs make it easier to focus they have solved your problem.

They aren't a cure all, but they absolutely can, and often do, work.

I don't know if aunt knew she had an obsession demon, but if she did she certainly didn't do anything to break its hold on her.
Perhaps she thought her obsession was a perfectly normal thing, in which case there'd be no cure because you can't cure anybody if they don't know they need curing.

What happened was that my mam Marge bumped into auntie's husband while shopping, and he invited her over, but when they arrived and he said "Marge's here", that's when Jean shouted "I'm not stopping" because she was in the middle of a ritual hoovering frenzy.
I don't know if aunt was a Christian, but she certainly disregarded these verses-
"Resist the devil and he will flee from you" (James 4:7)
"Don't give the devil a foothold" (Eph 4:27)
So you think your aunt’s desire to clean, was something kind of demonic manifestation?

Do you think something has been causing the delusions though? Do the drugs get to solving that?

The drugs mask your anxiety..they don’t solve those issues.

Idk about the drugs that make you focus...how many people in America were diagnosed with add or adhd and put on Ritalin? Did they all need that drug? I think you can argue that no...not all the kids put on it needed it. My nephew was put on it..changed his behavior and his personality for the worse.

Psychiatric drugs don’t necessarily solve the problem. However, they may well make the problem more easy to manage.
If you are anxious, the only way to deal with the problem is try to identify the source of the anxiety and understand how to deal with it better.
The drugs can make it easier for you address this.

Some people have brain imbalances which is the cause of the problem. That is the root.

Delusions are caused by attention being paid to a misfiring neuron. if you stop the misfire, or stop someone form paying attention to it, you have solved the problem.
The drugs mask your anxiety..they don’t solve those issues.
Anxiety is a function of a hypersensitive autonomic nervous system. Some people have disproportionately strong responses to a stimuli. Receiving a full adrenaline jolt in response to small stimuli isn't healthy and should be tamped down. The drugs do that.

I never said the drugs weren't over prescribed, and if you don't have adhd they don't rely work. However I do have adhd and they greatly improve my ability to focus, and have zero effect on my personality.

The drugs aren't perfect, and they don't work for everyone, but to completely disregard them is foolish.

I don’t know much about delusions or mental illness so I can’t speak to of what you’re saying is good or not.

I don’t think that’s true about anxiety..those medications don’t get to the root of the problem but mask the problem so you never really del with the anxious thoughts and continue to have them.

I just know what happened to my nephew..he improved off the medication.

I’m not really completely disregarding meds but we are an over prescribed nation from what I hear.

We all have our "personal demons", it's an oldfashioned term and could be replaced by the term "spiritual pollution", a kind of dark negative energy that sloshes around the world infecting people, hence the verse-
"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this...to keep oneself from being polluted by the world" (James 1:27)

Where does that pollution come from?- it's probably churned out by millions of people around the world praying to false gods and having nonchristian mindsets.

Some people don’t really understand that some psychiatric conditions can stem from neurological problems. For example, OCD is considered a neuropsychiatric condition because the pathways involved in thought processes, don’t work properly.
The brain is a truly fascinating thing. I acquired a brain injury 18 months ago and am truly fascinated by how messages can become confused in the brain - how they don’t always follow the pathway they should. It has led me to understand better how thoughts can be disordered.
I always think of the brain as a huge filing cabinet. In normal circumstances, everything will be filed in an orderly way in categories, in individual files, in individual drawers. When you need to access a thought, or a movement or an emotion your brain knows exactly where to find it, without having to think about it.
For some people - whether it’s an acquired brain injury, ASD, ADHD or neuropsychiatric conditions - it’s like someone has emptied the filing system out all over the floor, making it much more difficult to find the right response for the right stimuli.
Medicine has a place in helping put those processes back together again, in some conditions, depending on why the thoughts have become disordered. Of course, there will be other conditions where the brain needs to be retrained. Often, a combination of medication and retraining will be required.

This example, is more of a physical response, but it shows how thought processes become altered. Since having my brain injury, if I see something which might normally have made me feel nauseous, I sneeze. Similarly, if I choke on something, I sneeze rather than gag. Somehow my brain has mixed the reactions up. I don’t know if time will fix it - I’m beginning to think not, at this point. Also, if I have an itch and scratch it, it doesn’t always go away. My neuro-rehab consultant tells me that my brain may be confusing where the itch actually is.
The brain is a very complex thing.

That's the problem, that's not any better nor different than a person smoking or drinking away their problems or using drugs to escape from reality, cause no matter how "better" or "happier" they feel, those problems are still in their lives and won't solve themselves until they quit living that fake drug induced happiness, get back to reality, face them head on and live a better life. Escaping from reality or labeling every single emotion a person experiences or problem they have in their lives as a mental illness isn't going to help anyone or anything. Instead of helping people in their reality, They just rather put them in this unrealistic fake "happy" world, no better than drug addicts, i mean they ALL are TECHNICALLY DRUG ADDICTS in the end... People drink, smoke, do cocaine, LSD, weed all for the same reason you know. For that temporary fake "happiness" to "feel better" for a moment only to feel worse than before, to escape from reality and life's problems. Also till now, these "doctors" keep misinforming people and misdiagnosing them with these "chemical imbalances" in the brain when they have no proof, no research, no physical tests, no blood tests, no brain tests no anything whatsoever other than their "hypothesis" and rarely pictures of the brain to prove them "right" which isn't even enough.

How can someone's experiences be changed for the better by giving them known poisons that have known published detrimental effects? And how could it possibly help the brain or the rest of the body to be intentionally poisoned?

Psychiatric drugs do not put people in a fake, happy place. Different mental health issues respond to different types of drugs, which shows that the understanding of psychiatric illnesses goes a little deeper than pot luck.

Technically, they do. You can still feel your problems..but not on the surface..the drugs give you a fake happy but you still know that your problems are there below the surface. They do nothing to take away what is causing you the anxiety in the first place.

Some years ago I went into the AOL "Anxiety and Depression" chat room to see if I could help anybody, but as soon as I said "Hi, have any of you ever considered adopting healthy christian values and a healthy christian mindset?", they WENT BALLISTIC and started rocking and rolling like crazy, screaming stuff at me like "DON'T LISTEN TO HIM!"...."RELIGION IS A CURSE!"...."HE WANTS TO GET YOU INTO HIS CULT!"...."HE'LL MAKE YOU FEEL WORSE!".
It was as if they had demons in them speaking through their mouths!
Eventually the AOL Host had to gently ask me to leave "because you can see how you're upsetting them", so I said to them "Okay everybody you know my email address, get in touch if you want to talk more", but none ever did, what a bunch of no-hopers and stone-cold losers.. :)

You’re contradicting yourself a little, if you don’t mind me saying. In some conditions, the medication may take the edge of how you are feeling, you are right. They don’t give you a “fake happy”. Believe me, I’ve been on medication for 19 years.
Not all drugs work the same way, though. Some conditions are much more than just anxiety.

It’s a fake happy if it doesn’t solve your problems and takes the edge off.

Taking the edge off anxiety, doesn’t necessarily make one happy - rather less anxious and more able to deal with the root cause.
Mental health conditions are not all anxiety related, though.
