there is so much to unpack here. For one, the news coverage. Who cares. Turn off the tv. let them cover it as much or as often as they want. It makes absolutely no difference to me and most people I know who don’t have cable. The only people I know who do have cable, have it to watch sports. Who are these mindless drones you know who are glued to these cable tv stations watching corona coverage? I don’t know anyone like this.
you and others are giving media just as much attention as they are giving the coronavirus. In fact, there was an article I read the other day that said that they are predicting many people will cancel cable tv because sports are going to be canceled. I just don’t think anyone is following this the way you are suggesting.
sure you can still get these things on the internet but people are not going to be streaming mainstream news sources online all day. Plus some of these networks have paywalls so it is a gross exaggeration that the media’s seeming obsession with coronavirus is doing anything whatsoever to create or incite a somewhat nonexistent panic that you are suggesting. I see no panic anywhere. I have seen no panic anywhere even when we started getting positive cases in my area. Still no panic. Well except for the toilet paper thing, but whatever. That’s not like running into mindless people in the store who are randomly crying about how they are scared they are going to die or something.
this “panic” is something of an illusion in some cases based on how the mind is making a prediction or assumption based on your interpretation of media content.
it is a very ugly and unique disease and it has already been shown to cause long term damage. They aren’t padding the numbers. Im sorry, but that is a Fox News sound bite, which is a contradiction considering you are saying you shouldn’t pay attention to mainstream media.
you have clearly stuck your head in the sand over and over again when it comes to the way cause of death is determined. There is a margin of error and some degree of fluctuation, but these numbers are mainly being collected by hospitals at the moment. What you are suggesting Is that under the witness of thousands of people across the country, a false number of deaths has been reported.
for example, when a person dies in an icu, in addition to a doctor, there are a minimum of 5 people on this unit and in some cases 20 or more people. When this person dies, there is paperwork that is collected by someone. This paperwork is shared by several people and in this case, the number is stored somewhere else that many people have access to.
So there are many, many witnesses when someone dies in a hospital. To say that the media is not reporting accurate numbers would need to be corroborated by a rather large number of people realizing that they haven’t witnessed any deaths. Does this make sense to you?
It would require thousands of people to be complicit in reporting a false number. Within a week of taking care of a positive case in icu, at least 14 nurses will take care of this person and be exposed to every lab test, radiology test, doctor note that this patient has. There are too many people involved for this number to be inaccurate in any significant way. Hundreds of people working in this environment would start to notice this and report this. What you are suggesting is just not possible to accomplish.
your perspective towards this situation is solely based on media reporting while at the same time suggesting that it is unwise to base your perspective on media reporting.
as far as reimbursement goes. Every hospital in this country is losing a massive amount of money right now. You think 13000 is a lot of money to reimburse for a case of covid? That’s pennies. That is like the bare minimum and I’m guessing you know this from some media source because the reimbursement for this is higher profile than the reimbursement for cancer treatment or whatever. So you have no real idea how this compares to the reimbursement for another condition.
I’ll tell you that a hospital makes most of its money doing surgeries. Surgeries and specialties make way more money than infection disease, which is why most people don’t become primary care doctors anymore. Upgrading surgical capabilities is how a hospital increases revenue in the us and most surgical departments are shut down right now, so the hospital is losing lots and lots of money right now. They are actually experiencing the same risk of bankruptcy as small businesses.
So your perspective towards the whole system that is working towards integrating this new condition into our daily workflows is entirely based on conservative mainstream media propaganda. It is basically like listening to an episode of bill o Reilly.
I prefer to find the reality of the situation. Maybe I have an advantage in this case because I actually work in a hospital, but I still don’t see why it is so hard for people outside of this to understand reality.
Actually, my perspective is based on the draconian measures taking place as we speak.
Businesses are forced to close, many of those being small, family-owned businesses like restaurants, hair salons, feed stores, independent clothing stores, bakeries, and the entire service industry, etc...most of which function primarily as brick & mortar stores only, which means they can’t even look to transitioning to an online presence to stay open.
They will go bankrupt.
ALL their decades (if not generations) of hard work, sacrifice, contributions & support to local economy...many becoming pillars of the community & providing steady, stable employment and valuable services to their area.....GONE.
Exactly HOW LONG do you think these small mom & pops stores (the most beloved by the American people) can afford to continue paying rent for a business that is bringing in ZERO revenue?
As most of us already know, bills come every month whether we want them to or not, and certainly whether we have the money to pay them or not.
Small business owners shouldn’t have to dip into their retirement funds to sustain their closed business for an indefinite amount of time.
Meanwhile, corporate-owned businesses are raking in the profits that small businesses have lost because they ARE allowed to be open.
Wealthy stores like Wal-Mart, Amazon, Costco, etc...they have more business than they can handle & are hiring on the spot at reduced wages, often minimum wage.
My husband is friends with a professor from SMU who took a part-time job filling orders for Amazon because colleges are closed, and he is being paid minimum wage despite having multiple doctorate degrees.
Today our governor here in Texas has required that we wear masks in public or be fined $1,000.
WTF?!
It seems we aren’t even allowed to breathe fresh air anymore! I understand self-quarantine if you are sick, but why must the healthy be forced to stay indoors, wear masks & slather hand sanitizer all over our bodies like lotion?
Why is everyone complacent with these new Communist measures?
