I’m sure having that kind of money would pose a real moral/ethical conundrum for you Lisa. Spending all that on yourself would be wrong, while using it to help others would be nauseating for you. Quite a pickle, eh?
No...I think the conundrum would be to think that using the money could fix things..when that’s not necessarily true.

If you can honestly look at this world - and at your community specifically - and not see a way money could help you are delusional and lack imagination. Money doesn’t solve everything, but pretending like it doesn’t solve anything or help in any way is dishonest.

You having that much money - yeah, I get it. You won’t do much good because you already look at everyone beneath you as only having those struggles because they deserve them in some way otherwise “god would help” them. That isn’t reality. But it’s your reality.

Isn’t that what our tax money is going to though? Social programs aimed at helping people? Does that always work? I think first you have to change the hearts of people before you give them money or it’s not going to help them. Think of the people who win the lotto and blow through it all and end up in the same situation they’re were before they won the lotto..money doesn’t necessarily help people.

Well everyone has struggles, so I’m not sure what you’re getting at and God can help anyone with their struggles if they ask Him.

No Lisa. Our tax money goes to blowing people up, endless wars and gifts to the rich and corporations. It does not go to helping people. The social programs that exist are underfunded and pretty much a joke. You don’t need to change a persons heart to make sure they have housing and food and opportunities in life. What they do from there is up to them.

I can think of a million different ways to do good that would actually help. If you can’t come up with ONE that is sad.

It’s not going to do a person any good to have a house they can’t keep if they don’t stop doing drugs or learn to manage their money. So then it’s a waste to give in the first place, don’t ya think? Which is what I mean by money not necessarily helping..

I think a change of heart rather than a hand out is what is needed in most cases. A person does better when they are wanting the change or see the need for a change in their life.

You’d be amazed how much a random act of kindness can change a persons life Lisa. It must be depressing living in your head

Random acts are great for the moment but I don’t think they change people’s life that much..it’s hard to really change people’s minds.

If it were easy to change people’s minds...I would have changed yours long ago.
There is nothing about my mind that needs changing.

You also seem to be confused. You think I’d want to do nice or good things for struggling people in an attempt to change them but I don’t. I only want to improve their situation because not to do so if I have the means is the wrong thing to do. No strings attached.

You are so focused on people conforming to your little box that you miss the forest for the trees.

A homeless guy asked my husband for the time I couple days ago. He gave him his watch and a couple dollars for food. The guy asked why. My husband said why not? Neither one of us gives a lick what he used the watch and cash for after the fact. We hope he ate something warm and kept the watch so he atleast knows what time it is. If he didn’t then it is what it is. It isn’t about him, it’s about who we are as people and doing the right thing even if - especially if - others aren’t.

Karma Lisa. Put good into the world and get good back.

I’m just saying..it’s not easy to change a persons mind.

So you do nice things so nice things come back to you?

How did giving the guy a watch or money for food improve his situation? He now knows the time that doesn’t really matter to him and he has a couple of bucks which may have went to food or not...so how did you actually improve his situation? But I bet you think really well of yourselves now? Which really is the only reason why people give a couple of bucks for food to feel good about themselves because you didn’t actually improve his situation...he’s still homeless and possibly an addict.

No Lisa. I do good things because it’s the right thing to do.

How did it help him? He has the time for one. Which is more than he had. He ate. Which again is more then he had. We, ourselves, don’t have much. We try to help where we can.

If we had bezos’s money we’d help a lot more. It’s something we try to live by. Because at various points in time we’ve been helped. And thank god for that.

If everyone was as cynical as you it would be a really terrible world.

Why do you think he needs the time? Does he have some place to be? You gonna bring him a replacement battery when it runs down? Or maybe it’s good enough he has the time for now? I think the watch thing is kinda dumb actually. Even he didn’t know why you gave it to him..but you guys gave each other a pat on the back for it..which probably is the real reason you did it.

How would you help that guy with bezo’s money?

I wasn’t even there Lisa. And my husband came home and told me and thought I’d be mad.

Maybe having the time helps him get to the welfare office or a job interview or the food bank on time. Idk. It was a sweet gesture. And it’s just what’s in my husbands heart. He grew up dirt poor and struggled most of his life. It’s important for him to help where he can. He wishes someone would have helped his mom. Or him. Or us. We were homeless for 6 months. Both working our asses off barely enough money to eat. We get it.

We got a flat tire and didn’t know how we were going to manage to get it fixed because paying for it would have meant we didn’t have the money for our motel room. And not paying for it meant we wouldn’t have had a way to get to work. We went to get the tire and figured we’d try to work something out with the motel later. Some guy at the tire place started talking to my husband about boxing. They talked for like an hour and when we went to pay for the tire they told us the other guy had already paid for us. We didn’t tell him we didn’t have the money or were struggling or anything. That mans gesture kept us housed and enabled us to pull ourselves out of a situation there’s a good chance we wouldn’t have been able to otherwise. If we lost our jobs or our motel room at that point things would have just kept spiraling downwards.

You never know what kind of good you can do in this world and refusing to even try or to write it all of as some cynical “pat on the back” is bullshit. I truly feel sorry for you Lisa. You must have a miserable life. I can’t imagine anyone as bitter jaded and cynical as you finding much joy in anything.

Ps: the church clearly agrees with me on this one since most require or strongly encourage tithing and most of the biggest charities on earth are Christian. So did Jesus.

I’m glad that you and your husband were helped at a time you really needed it. At least the help was helpful to you. I still don’t see the need for a watch.

I wasn’t be cynical..you’re the one that was talking about helping because of karma..

I think the church is about leading people to Christ, that’s the best way the church could help

I believe offering help is a good thing, and money can be very helpful. How someone uses it is their choice but it’s not up to me to control that. This is called giving a gift to someone and gifts are nice to have.i also think that if someone has extreme wealth like Bezos, all sets of likewise powerful people probably come out of the woodwork to approach you with who knows what - you probably become aware of a world you never knew existed...

You can’t imagine a single reason why someone might need to know the time lisa? If all it did was bring a small to the Guys face and some renewed hope in humanity for a minute then it was worth it as far as I’m concerned. It was just an example, maybe not the best one but it just happened so it was what I thought of.

I’m sure the guy who bought our tire had zero clue how much he helped us or what was even the point. We didn’t look poor or struggling, certainly not homeless. Yet he did. If some stupid small insignificant thing like that could help someone so much... what could billions of dollars worth of things do?

Karma is a thing Lisa, atleast on some level. That isn’t some sort of sole reason for doing stuff but the universe has a funny way about it.

If helping the less fortunate twasn’t part of the Christian religion why would churches make tithing a requirement and why would they head all the biggest charities?

No imagination. Sorry to be Captain Obvious.

God only works in mysterious ways when a child dies. <end sarcasm font>

To skim off the top. Sorry to be Captain Obvious again.
