Have men become obsolete?

I mean, going by that logic, the sort of antiquated gender norms expressed there have made both sexes obsolete. Women can fix cars. Men can cook. Largely due to the progression of technology and economic constraints, both genders tend to work to pay bills. It doesn't make men obsolete just because those were originally male domains. The point about providing emotional support is just ridiculous though -immature and selfish people abound among both men and women. Most people suck. Though it could just be my misanthropic tendencies showing lol.

So are you saying that there were gender roles? Perhaps like women having the role of marriage and motherhood, which shouldn’t be looked down upon now..but celebrated?

Getting back to the op..it’s sad when women think that they should be like men because it hasn’t helped bring gender equality like they thought it would. It has only helped women to go outside their role, invade a man’s world and made it harder on families.
So when a women takes on a man’s role...and thinks she can do it better, how could she not look down her nose at him? Instead of building up her man, she thinks she’s above him... wants him to take on her role..that of helper and mother that she’s been taught to disparage and so why not disparage the man then too?

And of course you're here. The thread needed some comic relief. Carry on.

No because you, I am beginning to suspect, are only here to sow discord and arguments. You get serious replies but either misread or misinterpret them which is why trying to engage wirh you is a massive waste of time.
I think I was right in target with what I said to you though. How can I sow discord in a thread talking about how men have become obsolete when I agree?

You always think you're right. I'm not talking about this thread only Lisa, I'm talking about your general character here, at least what you portray. Which is why I choose not to initiate any conversation with you.

Am I wrong in what I said?

Hanna Rosin's 2010 piece from which she went on to write a book with the same title

Earlier this year, women became the majority of the workforce for the first time in U.S. history. Most managers are now women too. And for every two men who get a college degree this year, three women will do the same. For years, women’s progress has been cast as a struggle for equality. But what if equality isn’t the end point? What if modern, postindustrial society is simply better suited to women? A report on the unprecedented role reversal now under way— and its vast cultural consequences
