I just wanted to add that the advice by Grateful Servant to get air purifiers has made a big difference. I no longer feel trapped like I need to breath this musky, heavy and dirty air so that has helped my outlook. Thank You Again Grateful Servant. :):):) I'm still getting out of here no doubt though!
I gotta add to this to make it more informative. I have done so much research that it's baffling to me that this problem isn't talked about more. Like this should be taught in high school but what are the chances of it happening???
A lot of us have heard of mold through others, that it's bad that one should keep it at bay but one does not really extensively KNOW like one should. Hearing about something doesn't mean being educated about it.
I read somewhere that sheetrock is like candy to mold, and if sheetrock is drywall then I would guess the majority of buildings might develop a mold problem.
I have a friend that is going through the same thing in my area. They found black mold inside the walls. Gotta find out how the problem was detected. Same health issues as mine.
I was also told by someone that knows about EMFs that EMFS make mold problems worse!!! Did not know that myself.
If you use febreze or any air perfumes to cover up the musky, wet sock smell, you're making the problem 2x's worse. Don't use it, just air out the house whenever possible.

So the toxicologist was very informative and I wish I could have spent more time there. I learned that:

When you leave the moldy environment it could take up to a year an a half to get well.
That if one has been exposed long enough one's body can start to produce its own mycotoxins so that's why it's very important to do a detox. He suggested saunas and specially infrared saunas to sweat out all the nasty toxins.
The mycotoxins get stored in the fat cells so that's why one really must detox. Now I understand why my body hasn't been able to shed all the unwanted weight. after working out like crazy and I having seen some progress I still wasn't getting to where I need to be because the continued exposure to mold is not allowing my endocrine system to work right and it's making me hold on to residual fat.

Through all this ordeal I have learned that one must really have a strict diet in order to not feed the "mold monster" inside the body. The exposure led me to have food sensitivities that I didn't have before, I had to buy some gluten-free foods.
The mold can cause the candida albicans in the gut to grow out of control; leading to urinary tract infections, yeast infections, mental fog, digestive problems, abdominal pain, reduced immunity, etc. That is why it's important to stick to a super healthy diet and increase the intake of friendly bacteria, kefir specially or if you know of other awesome probiotics.
If it weren't for the precautionary steps I'm taking I'm sure I would be faring a lot worse. So I urge anyone to take the necessary steps as well.

Also this whole thing led me to look up Sick Building Syndrome. Very eye-opening.

I always saw this thread and never had occasion to read it, but here I am, a victim of mould.

The last six months or so I have had no energy and have been feeling really stupid, but didn't think much of it. I'm naturally lazy and dumb, to some degree -- throw in some general, long-term depression and it's easy to see how I can be suffering from toxic mould poisoning and not notice a difference, lol.

Anyway, about a month ago I was having trouble breathing. I couldn't take the garbage down the driveway to the curb without having to stop and catch my breath. I also felt SO dumb. I would be playing Assassin's Creed with my little boy watching me, and he'd be helping me solve the puzzles. He's six, and I should be at least as smart as a six-year-old. I was also coming across my own posts on the board, and would not remember posting them (for instance, did you know I'm apparently a big fan of Israel?).

When I finally saw a doctor and got some chest x-rays, they showed a collapsed lung, and so much fluid collected in my chest cavity that the x-ray tech said, "Did the doctor tell you to go the hospital? Because you need to go the hospital." I went to work instead, because I'd been feeling that way for weeks and figured one more day wouldn't hurt. It wasn't until the next day when my doctor called me and ordered me to go to emergency that I thought something might be wrong.

Long story short, I was diagnosed with a pleural effusion (fluid around the lungs), and have since had two GALLONS of fluid drained from my chest. Once the fluid was out of the way, they could see something in my right lung, and because I have no symptoms of cancer or anything else, and because we just found black mould in our house, it was pretty easy to connect the dots between the two.

So I'm freaking out a bit. Luckily, our landlord is required by law to do something about this, which may include putting us up in a hotel until the haz/mat team is done with our home. Not that we'd move back in there.

@UnderAlienControl, suggestions as to steps to take to start mitigating the damage to our health? My wife and son are both showing signs of sickness from this. Our new little baby is strong and healthy, thank God, but until we're out of the house, what can we do to protect her, too?

Damn man, sorry to hear that. Prayers to you and your family. If it's that bad, just run. Find a new place to live and go to Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. and get a mold test kit before you move in. They used to cost about $7. See, you must be one of those people who can take it, but then in the end ends up sicker for it. My ex and one of my sons is like that. But they both ended up with pneumonia. Me and my other kid are real sensitive so we are forced into treatment quicker because we can't breathe. So I've seen how it affects people differently. But no way would I take a baby back in there. It's just too risky in the very young and very old. (I once saw a case where they sent an elderly woman home to die per lung cancer, but it turned out that it was only balls of fungus in her lungs. They gave her anti-fungals and she recovered and kept on living.) These spores enter cells and then burst them. So that's why lung scarring showed up in the 11 year old kid in that case I saw on TV. Brain lesions (scarring) I could imagine, too. Because as we have all found out now, this stuff will make you feel dumb and off your game, and that stockbroker ended up winning $32 mil for brain damage. Sounds like you might have a case, too. I'd try to snap a few undercover pics of the remediation effort just to have in my back pocket in case whatever way this thing breaks. It might not be anyone's fault necessarily, but still, that's what insurance is for. To sue their insurance company over the damages. Food for thought.

You might also want to consider that your fabrics are compromised and ditch them. You can sit down on a couch cushion and propel a billion mold spores into the air. If you have a certain rug you're really fond of (cause you know, they can really tie the room together) I'd put on an N-95 mask, hang it up and give it a good beating. Then I would wash it down with a hose, scrub it with some detergent and a brush, rinse it good and put it right in the sun to dry quickly. Clothing could also be suspect, but since it's washed frequently you might be OK. I didn't ditch my clothes, but did ditch the mattresses (unless you had them covered with some type of waterproof liner i.e. a kids mattress). When we were shipping out to a new place, we had a queen size mattress, and as we had a coupla dogs to move too, let them stay in the place and would come let them out and feed them til we got moved. This required leaving the windows up in the house, and I guess the moisture from rain etc. ended up growing a giant black ring on that mattress, which was basically a giant mold test kit. So that mattress was disposed of. It sounds like in your place, they will have to tear the carpet out as it's a spore catcher. Mold spores combine readily with dust, and since they're microscopic, are probably saturated into the carpeting.

Now comes the good part. You're gonna have to change your diet until you start recovering. It's similar to yeast, in that you will be feeding it by consuming certain foods. Here's a good site on what to avoid for awhile. It helps a lot with recovering. (Also Oil of Oregano from the health food store helps, too.)

I hope everything works out, and if you need more info about something, hit this thread back up. But if I was you, I wouldn't go back. And I would not take a baby back in there. Like I said, these spores are cell-bursters, and I wouldn't expose the kids to that. God Bless and hope you are all Ok. And be sure to check out the diet. You gotta starve it out, similar to Candida. Peace....

Wow. You guys are starting to scare me. I have been feeling pretty similar to you for about 2 years and I have had some reddish mold for a little longer than that, in the room adjacent to the one I usually spend my time in.
Since absolutely everyone I know has had at least a couple of the same symptoms I've had, I figured it was all due to the heavy chemtrailing and to the radioactive cloud we've had over our country 2 years ago.
But even those things considered, I have been faring a lot worse than everyone else around me and I've realized for some time now that the reason my problems have progressed a lot more than theirs is probably the mold.
I have tried to get rid of it over a year ago with a bleach based anti-mould product but it came back, just not quite as bad as before.
The thought of having to climb up there and scrub it again is equal to climbing Mt Everest for me at this time, due to my lack of energy and my fear of heights. If mould really is very detrimental to my health, then I'm doomed

Be careful, but maybe have a mold expert check out your house asap and look for other living arrangements, stay in a hotel, etc.

I am SO SORRY to hear you're going through this nightmare Thunderian :-( It is I am very glad you were able to go to the doctor and were able to see the damage these horrible microorganisms have inflicted. Thank you for taking the time to share as well.
There is not just one kind of black mold. It is a common misconception that ONLY stachybotrys is the black mold but there are other kinds of mold dark brownish color that resembles black and are just as toxic.
I have had a good experience with the DYI mold test kit. It told me the different kinds of mold that are present. It requires that you put a tape over the patch of mold and send it in. Proper caution is to be exercised to avoid inhaling the mold that is being disturbed to take the sample. I found out that an airborne mold test will pick up what a tape sample won't pick up and vice versa.
For ANYONE that wants to hire a professional aside from doing your own testing, make sure they are good and honest. The "company" that did the airborne testing said that no toxic mold was found even though they did pick up penicillium and aspergillus spores, both kinds which are really vicious and dangerous. SHM

I am now taking bentonite clay with ACV, it doesn't taste good but who cares, my health is more important. Taking diatomaceous earth which binds the mycotoxins and expells them, chrorella in my yogurt or smoothies and I keep forgetting to go in for infrared sauna treatments.
NO ONE should be exposed to mold, specially little ones which are MORE susceptible.
I had musky heavy air and after spraying ACV on the carpet the smell is barely noticeable. Straight ACV no water
I will post more later. I hope this is somewhat helpful and please keep asking for info. I hope you and your family take all the steps necessary to get your health back

I would call a mold expert but they don't exist in my country, and I don't think I could afford living in a hotel for as long as I would need to in order to see if my health problems recede from the change. I'm stuck at the moment.

Does anyone know if salt mines help improve mold ailments? I have a salt mine relatively near my place, so I could go visit it if I get a free day. That would be tiring too in my current situation, but it beats getting on a ladder and scrubbing like mad when I have so little energy to begin with. I could even fall off it in my present state

Try to get out of there as soon as you can by staying with friends or family (providing they don't live in moldy houses). It sounds like it could get worse and fast. Your health is important.

By the way @Glad 2 know and @UnderAlienControl , thanks to y'all and my own OCD tendencies, after reading this thread about 6 weeks or 2 months ago, I got more than a little concerned and deep cleaned my house (kitchen and bathroom particularly). What I thought was potentially mold was a small bug infestation so I dealt with it. The South has bugs, lots and lots of bugs. Anyway, this is a much needed thread. Truly sad about how sick this mold has made you and countless others.

That doesn't sound good Stina. I did find some brownish, reddish mold that was growing on the wall that is connected to the upstairs bedroom wall which led to my mattress being full of mold/mildew. It seems to me that the mold is deep within the walls that it is now surfacing through the paint. It seems no matter how much paint, it is only a matter of time before it penetrates through it and out.
The aerosols that are being sprayed are exarcerbating the mold exposure symptoms. Heavy metals aside, we've got mycotoxins raining down as well.
Please do take what you can to fight off the symptoms, mold can cause organ failure, it is truly a horrible thing to deal with.
I recommend ACV to clean off mold. I found a reduction in my symptoms by cleaning with it. Like I mentioned I sprayed the carpet with nothing but ACV and I noticed no more musky, nasty air. I cleaned the walls with half water, half ACV and some soap while wearing 2 N95 masks and goggles. This is just a temporary measure to alleviate the symptoms and lessen the exposure. Unless the source of mold is removed, it's going to keep coming back if it's just covered over.

I know what it feels like Stina but in the mean time, take care of your self. You need to pick up your immune system for now. Lots of antioxidants and vitamin C and dark leafy greens. While you buy yourself some time to get out or change your living situation.

Personally, I don't know. But it would be good to research it. You cannot get well unless you detox and the mold gets taken away. You cannot continue living with mold, even if you do something to feel better, the mold is going to continue inflicting damage. Either the mold gets taken out of the house or you get your self out of there :-( I'm sorry I can't be more positive.

Thank you Dalit, it's great you like to take care of things right away and I'm glad this has been informative :). Yeah bugs are no fun either, the pesky ones anyway. I have had my share as well.
Unfortunately, I only see this problem getting worse due to climate change. There's more heat, humidity, rainfall, etc. All the right conditions and temperatures for mold growth :-( and NOT enough information for the public :-( If a home is water damaged I'm afraid it's doomed if the problem is not taken care of right away.

I have loved ones that would take me in, but I'm not willing to move at their place and disrupt their lives. I'm not a regular housemate because I have a skin condition that requires me to spend 1,5-3 hours in the shower in order to look and feel normal and there are other health related things too that would incommodate them, even if they would never say it so they don't make me feel bad. The thing I dread most in life is to be a pest.
Renting is also out of the question because I don't have the energy to sanitize the new place like my skin condition requires. Like I said, I'm stuck.

Hopefully the chlorella I'm taking will enable me to have the energy and clear-mindedness (so I don't drift off and fall) to clean the mold out before the cold season starts when the spores will be free to affect me at full capacity since I won't be able to keep the windows open 24/7 like I'm doing now.
I have been using chlorella for a few weeks and it's allowed me to think a little better than before, and my energy and short term memory aren't quite as abysmal as they used to be, but the progress is very, very slow, because I can only tolerate small doses due to having had stomach paralysis.

This is news to me. I've never heard of mold penetrating brick. I didn't think it possible.

The best way of counteracting the stuff they're spraying us with (including for fungi) is adding a pinch of boron in 1200ml of water and drinking 300-400ml of that mix a day. Unfortunately I'm one of the few people that can't drink it unless I'm willing to risk death.

Thank you for the immunity idea.
Vitamin C should be out of the question though, since it's not advised to take it while also taking chlorella, it almost renders the chlorella useless. You're not taking both, are you?

I just remembered a way to keep the walls of your house moisture free, and if the walls/ceilings are completely dry then mold shouldn't be able to live in your house.
People used to cover their houses with hanging plants before the advent of AC. They keep houses cool in the summer and they also keep your walls completely dry, they even suck the moisture out of cement walls.

... and I find them very pretty. If only I could own a house instead of this appartment:(

My accommodation do have molds in some places especially in the bathroom, we have cleaners (local) who do the cleaning daily but I think they don't do their job really well (I can't really complain that much because it is company provided). The location where I am at is hot and very humid during summer (and rainy season), sometimes moist accumulates that my walls, floor and furniture (like table) are wet whenever I enter my room coming from work.

Btw, does mold induce yeast infection?

That's messed up, can't do anything about the weather which causes mold to grow. Although we cannot totally keep mold out of our homes, water damage is the catalyst to this horrible problem. Too much moisture is not good at all. I was considering buying a dehumidifier but I've settled for the purifiers. I have noticed an uptick in the humidity levels where I live, it wasn't as humid a couple of years ago. The humidity you have is pretty bad for your stuff to be covered in moisture :-( If you can get humidifiers that would be good and fan your room, air it out. Always check to see if you see have ANY mold and you do it would be good to have it tested. I have benefited from doing research online as well.
Yes it does because mold being a fungus itself once it goes in the body, it weakens your immune system and helps the candida grow out of its normal range. It can cause urinary tract infections, yeast infections, toe nail fungus, among other things :-(
