How can you say there would be no ROI on building the wall? According to the CBP and ICE agents on the ground, the sections of all that have been built or renewed are already making a positive impact. Once people are redirected to legal points of entry, it is easier to list them, track them, do background checks, direct those deserving asylum to the appropriate depts., and deport those who do not deserve entry, be it for previous criminal behavior in or outside of the US.

The Supreme Court just announced a decision that it is legal for the administration to use military funds for construction, something I would imagine we can all agree upon. Constitutionally speaking, protecting our sovereignty and borders is one of the most basic jobs with which the federal govt is charged, so it has been quite surprising, disheartening and frustrating that the Blue team has spent so much time and political energy to Not to do so, and then acting like they're doing us some big favor. It's disgusting.

As for tariffs, I think one has to look at a longer-term picture. Sure, they are uncomfortable in the immediate "Omigod I have to pay 50 cents more at Walmart!" sense. But realistically, govts. go back and forth on this stuff all the time, and have done so since history began. God forbid we have to import that flimsy fast fashion or those plastic do-dads from Indonesia or Guatemala instead of China, and those economically deprived countries benefit from our insatiable materialism. (Insert eye-roll here.)

But the negotiations have already begun. Not just with the Chinese, but countries from all over are lining up to make or renegotiate trade deals with us, from Mexico to Africa to India. There is so much going on behind the scenes, and certainly not showing up in the MSM, it's hard to even keep track! I think economists of the future will look back on this time period, from 2017 onward into the next 10 years and think "Gee, why didn't they do that sooner?"
1) because I’ve read numerous projections indicating it won’t save enough money to cover the costs of building it. And your right I don’t have a problem with him redirecting funds already appropriated. From the military. If they are re appropriated from programs to help struggling Americans I will have a problem.

2) the problem with tariffs isn’t solely or primarily the extra 50cents I’m going to have to spend at Walmart. It’s the 14.5 billion dollars in aid we now have to give farmers while cutting the food stamp budget 3 billion claiming we have no money. It’s the jobs that will be lost if this goes on for more than an extremely short term basis. And then it’s the 50 cents extra we will have to pay because a lot of families can’t afford 50cents extra. They are already underwater.

The hilarious part for me was to watch CNN talking heads afterward who seemed to see dead people. I mean, they praised smiley Booker for doing great. They were torn on Biden. But what is becoming clear is that CNN and the party want certain candidates to advance. I love the fact that Tulsi has more balls than every man on the stage going after Google which cut her off from ad's because she was the most searched candidate earlier and Big Tech is trying to control this election. I think we will be hearing more about that shortly. All these people sticking up or Tech are about to wake up on both sides and realize the dangers of being force-fed certain views.

One more thing (added) - the left is now going after Tulsi on many fronts.
Tulsi really got to Harris and all the predictable attacks are coming ( Assad apologist, Russian asset etc ) because they honestly can’t defend Harris’ awful record as a prosecute. That’s her biggest weakness and I’m glad it finally was put in the spotlight.

Warren actually has a plan to break up big tech monopolies if you’re seriously interested in the issue.

I only watched a very small amount... having to watch it on my phone just isn’t working out for me.

I did see everyone going after Biden and if I’m being honest I think it’s a bit soon to be going full throttle on that... they should be making cases for themselves more then against someone else. Idk. I’m just picturing the older centrists in my family - white upper middle used to be liberal then conservative but don’t like trump or changed their minds - and I know they are going to find it “distasteful” especially when they don’t know anything about these people to have an independent opinion about them first.

Harris did take some hits and seemed on the defensive a bunch which I didn’t like.. I think Biden got her back pretty good, tulsi got her better tho.

Did tulsi take the grey out of her hair?

I like deblasio. Not for president but I like him.

Inslee just seems like a sweet grandpa.

Castro and yang make sense on some things but they are meh.

Gillibrand is meh.

Booker is meh.

I don’t even know who the last guy was/is... so clearly no impression made.

You might be right about Biden, some people may not respond well to the constant attacks on him and even sympathize.

The streak was still there just less pronounced this time.

Fire pantalao- directed at deblasio about the cop that killed Eric garner. Then later about deportations directed at Biden

I’m surprised protestors were even able to get it tbh
Yeah that actually is a big problem for Bill, I like him but he should drop out and endorse Sanders he’s not going anywhere.

It’s older people.. the response would be something along the lines of “we don’t understand how things were”/it’s disrespectful.. clearly his numbers arent going down and I suspect that’s why - the people that support him are going to be repulsed by that behavior and not even listen to anything else

Well it didn’t look so try hard this time so kudos to her

Deblasio really doesn’t have the power to fire him and I guess I don’t understand why people think he does. He has been super vocal and critical of the police and police violence. The nypd hates him. The nypd union is incredibly powerful... until that investigation is completed no one can do anything and even when it is the decision isn’t his. It’s misplaced criticism in my opinion and gillibrand comes off as dishonest since she’s from nyc and gave the impression otherwise.

I don’t mind him staying in if he qualifies just to be an extra voice on our side.. there’s more than enough republicans in costume on that stage.

Also I really like Inslee. I’m forgetting why and what exactly he did but that’s the impression... not as president but maybe some sort of cabinet position.

Outside of Sanders and Warren I thought Bill was pretty impressive. You’re from NYC so I trust you on what is going on there, I’m not sure why so many on the left seem to despise him, no one’s perfect but he’s better than the idiots from my state for example. If he happens to qualify for the next ones I think his presence could help I just don’t see it happening.

Inslee is solid, he’d be great at either DoE or the Interior but might be better as a governor ally

New Yorkers are never happy lol... universal pre-K, $15 minimum wage, free college, expanded medical, expanded EITC and child care and child tax credits, ending stop and frisk, standing up to the nypd... and they still aren’t happy.

If you look at a map nyc is very solidly blue. When you get on the streets that isn’t the case. It’s pretty split, down classically drawn identity lines if we are being honest with the minorities and hipsters being very blue and more than enough white working or middle or upper middle who LOVE trump. And corporate ultra wealthy that would go with a neoliberal or traditional republican if they had their choice.

He’s getting a lot of blame for things that were rotten for decades before he got there (nycha, nypd). Little credit for the steps he’s taken to try and fix them. Appreciation from certain segments of the population for the programs he’s put in place for poorer New Yorkers and a lot of kick back from the more wealthy New Yorkers for the same reasons. The same people that say they hate him are mad at him now for even running because he’s not in nyc doing things... but they hate the things he does so I’d think they’d be happy to have less time to do them? It’s nonsensical, the whole thing.

Prior to him we had Mike Bloomberg. I’m sure you can see how this is a seismic shift... upsetting to certain groups.

Yep, the establishment is scared of Tulsi Gabbard.

I think this is a good lesson about "privilege". Because we see this behavior all the time. Career politicians feel they are owed a nomination, or owed the most air-time. Maybe in their minds, they have a distorted view of the concept of respect.

Respect is giving you the time of day. A handshake, bow, or applause. It is not a machine to exploit for blatant ego-stroking.

Did you find more or less waste and fraud than expected?
About what I expected... people having people living there they weren’t supposed to was really the biggest thing. But proving that... wasn’t my job. Working off the books or selling drugs is another one but again someone has to prove it.

I was asking about within the department, not so much the recipient.

That isn’t how HUD did their audit... they randomly pulled tenant files and then compared the data in the file to the information provided by the tenant when interviewed. They were looking to see if income or expenses were missed or miscalculated.

I’m sure the data analysts down in Maryland had some way of determining whether that data indicated agency fraud but that information didn’t make it to me and wasn’t what I was specifically looking for.

https://www.hud.gov/sites/documents/DOC_10772.PDF

That isn’t the years I worked on it but that’s the best I could find right now.

The judge presiding over the pantalaio disciplinary case has recommended he be fired... I follow New York news so I’m assuming this hasn’t reached national yet.
