yes, BTS has a big fandom and are "trendy" with teenagers. But the general public are not familiar with their musicTrue, their fandom like to dismiss the impact P S Y had, they call him a "meme" and talk about nobody took him seriusly in the west (as if the west take b t 5 seriusly).
That fandom can turn a lie into a truth and a truth into a lie, they are the ones that media play the most, that's why it's very difficult to understand the real impact that group has.
All i can say is that rarely people talk about their music, they are more like a trend, and trends are never longlasting
If you ask a random person about a popular BTS song, nobody will know the answer
But if you ask a random person about "gangan style" most people would be familiar with the song
PSY might be a "meme" but his song had more impact than anything BTS ever did
