"kundalini", are you sure? It's clear to me that what these charismatic types are really doing is unwittingly enacting rituals that incorporate sound as a vibratory aid to project the original thought so that it can be "copied" within the mental body of each person, giving the original thought power, definition, and form. In other words they are creating egregore or servitor type thought-forms LOL. If they were to suddenly experience so-called kundalini, then any fears that were utilized in the creation of these thought-forms would probably send them running for the hills in sheer terror.

This is not totally accurate, in my opinion. It's very outdated and incomplete, but it will at least give you an idea of wtf I'm babbling about.

Ah - Theosophy... Annie Besant... What draws you to this particular belief system if you don't mind me asking?

Nothing in particular. In fact it stinks of BS just as much as any other religion LOL. I'm interested in metaphysics and cosmic sector stuff, not ready-made, hand-me-down belief systems. Although some useful core concepts can be found within any religion, no single religion has ever satisfied me whatsoever.

Lol - so if somebody else believes something, that rules it out from being true? Only joking with you but perhaps you have to ask yourself the question 'what am I looking for' and start from there?

You are recommending starting off with a preconceived bias? No thank you.

You must have fun cloths shopping ;-)

P.s. There is a serious side to this question - everyone apart from newborns have some sort of 'starting point' - it might be vague or even paradoxical but it is where you are at. Being honest about that is the first step in any journey worth taking.

Sure, but the next logical step would be to examine that starting point and make sure it is TRULY a starting point. Asking "do I know, or do I think I know?" The ego will always cling strongly to its definitions even if they are based upon conditioned automatic thought patterns and/or unrecognized assumptions. It's better to do the work of examining and removing such definitions than to conveniently ignore or reject anything that doesn't fit within the rigid box of belief.

Again interesting but depending on your level of abstraction you might ultimately decide the universe was a holographic projection on an aliens laptop! I don't hold to this view, but as I suggested, you have to decide by faith or experience some form of bedrock and build from there. In the end it comes down to epistemology - 'how do you know what you know'...

You put that very well.
I am am not denying the power of the Holy Spirit to move in certain circumstances etc.
It is the Charismatic Church movement that claims to be Spirit-filled but relies on music and atmosphere to be created *before* the alleged Holy Spirit moves in their services that is dangerous.
A church that focuses on the Holy Spirit more than Jesus is in danger of worshiping a different god.
Jesus said he is present anywhere believers meet in his name. There's no need to wait for him to show up.

I think there is no doubt that the Holy Spirit will move in visible ways, but getting together every Sunday and demanding it doesn't sound right.

I don't see Joanne implying that anywhere in her quote, in fact I see the opposite.

fire represents the purification of God....why would I not want to be baptized with his fire? I want to be purified. I want to be like refined gold. Without the fire, the dross can't rise to the top and be skimmed off. (1 Peter 1:7, Zechariah 13:9)
Better to go through the refining fire in this lifetime than in the age to come...
Being baptized means to be immersed. Christians are never depicted as passing through spiritual fire to be purified. Their works are subjected to it, but they themselves are not.

Sorry for any confusion. I agreed with what she was saying completely, and was just adding my own thoughts to hers.

That's good then, I think we all can agree. They do demand the holy spirit by chanting the holy spirit song.

Charismatic churches often only take the chorus of songs and chant them over and over again. The screen they use for the lyrics often have hypnotic meditation colours changing and shifting to induce the mind into a hypnotic state.

I'm sure there may be a few churches here and there that do that intentionally, but to make a general statement implying that is key tool of charismatic churches is absurd. You do realize the Charismatic movement existed long before screens were used for lyrics with changing and shifting lights? Though many of the mega churches seen on TV may have big screens and lights and smoke machines and all that, that most charismatic churches don't do any of that.....

Interesting. So what is John refering to when he says the one who follows him "will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and Fire"
