Survival Tactics by Pro Era
R.I.P Capital STEEZ

[Intro]
It's either, them or you
It's sort of like, survival you know. Survival of the fittest you know
You do what you do to stay alive

[Verse 1: Joey Bada$$]
Niggas don't want war—I'm a martian, with an army of spartans
Sparring with a knife in a missile fight
Get your intel right; your intelligence is irrelevant
But it's definite; I spit more than speech impediments
Brooklyn's the residence, the best and it's evident
We got them niggas P-E-Nuts—like they elephants
Throw 'em in a trunk if they hate though
We don't give a fuck as long as we collect our pay, so
Ya'll collect pesos, ya money ain't right here
I got them girls next to the wood like they light year, I'm right chea
Tryna get a buzz, tryna pollinate
STEEZ got that presidential shit—'bout to inaugurate
My P.E.-conglomerates 'bout to P-E-E on any wanna-B-E, weak MC
Air 'em out or leave 'em empty congratulate the semi-auto
Fire flame-spitter like komodo
No time for fake people, they be simmin' like Kimora
I'm the empor-ah in search of the adora, my heart go
"Ba-boom, ba-boom, ba-boom-boom"
It's panic like Dora when shots blast
See I was raised that way, I'm from the place where they raise that 'K
Like every day in every way, and every where you go, just ain't safe
The only thing that I can say, to you is, "Pray"
'Cause when niggas start equippin', and throw the clip in
Your blood drippin', and got you slippin'
Another victim, don't know what's hit them—through his spinal
Just another man who defeated by survival
That's your biggest rival, in your whole life
These bars you can't handle you better hold tight
They sayin' I'm the best—I'm like, "You're so right"
Still ain't got enough shine to last the whole night, nigga

Interlude]
Yo, fuck the police nigga
Fuck every ass-corrupt politician on Wall Street
P.E., Public Enemy, Assassinate us—bitch
Fuck that, fuck everything, son
Fuck government, fuck—listenin' and shit
You want fuckin' energy? Dickheads

[Verse 2: Capital STEEZ]
It's like 6 milli ways to die my nigga choose one
Doomsday comin' start investin' in a few guns
New gats, booby traps, and bazooka straps
Better play your cards right, no booster packs
Everybody claim they used to rap
But these ain't even punchlines no more, I'm abusing tracks
Leaving instrumentals blue and black
I'm in Marty McFly mode, so tell em' that the future's back
Riding on hoverboards, wiping out motherboards
Stopped spitting fire 'cause my motherfuckin'
lung is scorched
King Arthur when he swung his sword
A king author I ain't even use a pen in like a month or four
I had a hard time writing lyrics
Now I'm way over heads, science fiction
You can try and get it, my man the flyest with it
With a mind of fine of interest for your finest interests
They say hard work pays off
Well tell the Based God don't quit his day job
'Cause P.E.'s about to take off
With protons and electrons homie that's an A-bomb
Fuckin' ridiculous
Finger to the president screamin', "Fuck censorship!"
If Obama got that president election
Then them P.E. boys bout to make an intervention
Fuck what I once said, I want the blood shed
'Cause now-a-days for respect you gotta pump lead
I guess Columbine was listenin' to Chaka Khan
And Pokémon wasn't gettin' recognized at Comic-Con
It's like we've been content with losin'
And half our students fallen victim to the institution
Jobs are scarce since the Scientific Revolution
And little kids are shootin' Uzi's 'cause its given to 'em
Little weapon, code name: Smith and Wesson
And you'll be quick to catch a bullet like an interception
If your man’s tryna disrespect it
Send a message and it's over in a millisecond—nigga

Well, i can't see "The Dude" somewhere up at the front . :)

I don't know if this really makes the cut but i couldn't help myself as its Gnostic Bishop's theme song :)
Sure, I’ll let it slide considering I’m posting this song. ;) Did anyone have the 12” single and remember waiting to hear David Bowie? I also remember watching the video thinking George Michael’s top was so cool. Seems like this song hoodwinked a (Gen-X) generation, though, as it did more harm to the Ethiopians than good (source).

Considering the season, I’ll post it for a bit of nostalgia:

Do They Know it's Christmas
Band-Aid

[Paul Young]
It's Christmas time
There's no need to be afraid
At Christmas time
We let in light and we banish shade

[Boy George]
And in our world of plenty
We can spread a smile of joy
Throw your arms around the world
At Christmas time

[George Michael]
But say a prayer
Pray for the other ones
At Christmas time it's hard

[Simon LeBon (Duran Duran)]
But when you're having fun
There's a world outside your window
And it's a world of dread and fear

[Sting]
Where the only water flowing
Is the bitter sting of tears

[Bono & Sting]
And the Christmas bells that ring there
Are the clanging chimes of doom

[Bono]
Well tonight thank God it's them
Instead of you

[Boy George & Others]
And there won't be snow in Africa this Christmas time
The greatest gift they'll get this year is life(Oooh)
Where nothing ever grows
No rain or rivers flow
Do they know it's Christmas time at all?

[Marilyn & Glenn Gregory]
Here's to you

[Paul Young]
Raise a glass for everyone

[Marilyn & Glenn Gregory]
Here's to them

[Paul Young, Marilyn & Glenn Gregory]
Underneath that burning sun
Do they know it's Christmas time at all?

[Chorus: All]
Feed the world
Feed the world
Feed the world
Let them know it's Christmas time again

Feed the world
Let them know it's Christmas time again

Galveston, oh, Galveston,
I still hear your seawinds blowing;
I still see her dark eyes glowing.
She was twenty one, when I left Galveston.
Galveston, oh, Galveston,
I still hear your seawaves crashin,
while I watch the cannons flashin'.
I clean my gun, and dream of Galveston.
I still see her standing by the water,
Standing there looking out to sea.
And is she waiting there for me,
On the beach where we used to run?
Galveston, oh!
Galveston, I am so afraid of dying,
Before I dry the tears she's crying,
Before I watch your sea birds flying in the sun, at Galveston, at Galveston

The kids today they got nothing to say
They got nothing to say because they taught
'Em that way
They want to watch them grow old
Put them in their graves
Till their gone

They mess with their hearts
And then they mess with their minds
And they plug up their ears
And they make em go blind

Till they walk down the street
And they can't tell what time it is

You see em standing in line
You watch em going insane
Because they wasting their time
While they waiting in vain
Is this the way it should be
You were born to be free
So why you wasting away
Why you wasting away

Teachers today they got nothing to say
They got nothing to say because they taught
Em that way
They only do what they told

So they can get their pay
And go home

They walk down the street with their hearts
In their hands
They grow up to fast
And they can't understand
What its like to be a woman
Or maybe a man
Because its wrong

Marshall Tucker band: "Tell It To The Devil" from their 1977 album "Carolina Dreams"
I can't stand to see a grown man...
Hit a little kid.
Or get cussed out for somethin'...
Not even knowin' what he did.
See a man, any man,
Messin' 'round with your best friend's wife...
Or sit helpless in the corner,
And watch a man drink away his life.

-Chorus-
I'm gonna clean my soul of coal,
You don't owe me no back pay...
I'm gonna tell that to the devil
When I see him today

Walked to a graveyard,
May they all rest in peace.
I wish they could all go to heaven,
I bet two did at least.

Someone that don't feel sorry,
For the helpless and the blind.
Kinda makes you wanna pick up the bible,
And memorize every single line.

-Chorus-
I'm gonna clean my soul of coal,
You don't owe me no back pay...
I'm gonna tell that to the devil
When I see him today

See a man walk by a beggar,
With an empty tin cup...
Kinda makes you wanna grab him by the back of the neck,
Knock him down and never pick him up.

-Chorus-
I'm gonna clean my soul of coal,
You don't owe me no back pay...
I'm gonna tell that to the devil
When I see him today

I'm gonna tell that to the devil
When I see him today

Standing tough under Stars and Stripes
We can tell
This dream's in sight
You've got to admit it
At this point in time that it's clear
The future looks bright
On that train all graphite and glitter
Undersea by rail
Ninety minutes from New York to Paris
Well by seventy-six we'll be A.O.K.
What a beautiful world this will be
What a glorious time to be free
Get your ticket to that wheel in space
While there's time
The fix is in
You'll be a witness to that game of chance in the sky
You know we've got to win
Here at home we'll play in the city
Powered by the sun
Perfect weather for a streamlined world
There'll be spandex jackets one for everyone
What a beautiful world this will be
What a glorious time to be free
On that train all graphite and glitter
Undersea by rail
Ninety minutes from New York to Paris
(More leisure for artists everywhere)
A just machine to make big decisions
Programmed by fellows with compassion and vision
We'll be clean when their work is done
We'll be eternally free yes and eternally young
What a beautiful world this will be
What a glorious time to be free

Artist: Cool Breeze
Album: East Points Greatest Hit (1999)
Song: The Field

What we waiting for, let's finish it (The field)
We can't run no more, we innocent (The field)
What we waiting for, we innocent (The field)
We can't run no more, let's finish it (The field)
See where I'm from I was taught that
Two wrongs don't make it right but it'll damn sure get your money back
So best believe you got's to watch folks
You hit yo lights, they have they face off in yo place
Just like a cockroach
Tryin' to hit you for yo index
Tear some paper out yo back and re-arrange your whole contents
That's why you gotta keep yo history
In a book so when they look it'll never be a mystery
I've seen people come and leave, comeback and leave
Come back and still ain't stack no G's
So everybody won't be pushin' buttons
Just the ones who gave they all when you know they didn't have nothin'
We comin' what chu' gonna do when we run
In a pack and disappear and lay up under the sun
What we waiting for, let's finish it (The field)
We can't run no more, we innocent (The field)
What we waiting for, we innocent (The field)
We can't run no more, let's finish it (The field)
See growin' up is like a girlfriend
Ya keep ya cool, take ya time, and when ya day come you put it in
That's a reflection on ya whole life
From the moments you wake up to those minutes that you pray at night
Like when they pushed you at the playground
And all ya friends would wonder
Why you yelled 'the field' before you threw down
That's just yo instincts tryin' to tell ya heart
That if yo mother wished the best for you
You'd be tested from the jump start
So that's when people come around and wonder
What make you tick, how you do it, but you keep yo business on the under
I ask my folks question every season
They say the Lord blessed every child, but he blessed you with a reason
So with that I go for years and years
On a quest to return and reveal to my peers
What we waiting for, let's finish it (The field)
We can't run no more, we innocent (The field)
What we waiting for, we innocent (The field)
We can't run no more, let's finish it (The field)
What if yo life story was in a book
And they left certain words that only you could say
Because they knew you looked
That's like your future bein planned for you
You know who real and who fake and who yo friends and who gon be loyal
You keep yo thoughts on a level
That don't nobody know what you be doin next
Cause you change like the weather
You the chosen, the one who reveal
Every battle that we battled and every hill we build
Your life is their forever burnin' torch
So the messages you carry reach they traveling point
See in the book it was this place that people actually lived
They disappeared in the mists of the hemispheres
But when they return they speak of travelin' on their journey back home
We shall rise once again and let it be known
What we waiting for, let's finish it (The field)
We can't run no more, we innocent (The field)
What we waiting for, we innocent (The field)
We can't run no more, let's finish it (The field)

Apparently Nothin'
Young Disciples

A popularity of invasion
Handed down through centuries
A force of arms called gentle persuasion
What have we learned from history?

Apparently nothin' (Apparently nothin', nothin' apparently)
Apparently nothin' (Apparently nothin', nothin' apparently)
Apparently nothin' (Apparently nothin', nothin' apparently)
Apparently nothin' (Apparently nothin', nothin' apparently)

Human worth is so inexpensive
Compared to gold, the root of most wars
Subtract the tears from countless offences
What is left but guns and scars

Apparently nothin' (Apparently nothin', nothin' apparently)
Apparently nothin' (Apparently nothin', nothin' apparently)
Apparently nothin' (Apparently nothin', nothin' apparently)
Apparently nothin' (Apparently nothin', nothin' apparently)
Well, as for me, I'm gonna keep lovin'
'Cause it's the only sane thing to do
'Cause I'm not into pushin' and shovin'
No confrontation, what have you...

I like Foster The People. Some of their songs are meaningful, even though i think the lead singer is not "woke".
Here's a song i really like:

The people who are born into people
I´m never short of food on the table
Shaking hands with fake tans and southern dreams
Douse the world in kerosene

We can tell the truth
Yeah, we can tell the truth
Yeah, we can tell the truth

Someone's gonna lose
Someone's gonna lose
Yeah someone's got to lose
Oh, yeah

They manipulate our religions
To set us on a unified vision
Fill our mouths with words so we listen
In a comfortable state of submission
So we can tell the truth
So we can tell the truth
So we can tell the truth

They keep a shadow over you
A shadow over you
A shadow over you

They'll never show you proof
They'll never show you proof
They'll never show you that people can change
And we're all just the same
Money won't cover up their mistakes, yeah

Oooooh oooooh oooooh

Everybody loves a winner
Nobody wants to lose
So place your bets and think like the rest
So you can be a winner too
So you can be a winner too

We can't ignore the truth
We can't ignore the truth
We can't ignore the truth

Someone's gonna lose
Someone's got to lose
And it could be you

I like them as well, they're a good band. And the lead singer writes good lyrics too. I think a lot of their songs have an anti-establishment perspective.

It doesn't matter
If you're wrong or if you're right
It makes no difference
If you're black or if you're white

All men are equal
Till the victory is won
No colour or religion
Ever stopped the bullet from a gun

Out in the fields
The fighting has begun
Out on the streets
They're falling one by one
Out from the skies
A thousand more will die each day
Death is just a heartbeat away

It doesn't matter
If you're left or to the right
Don't try to hide behind the cause
They want to fight

There'll be no prisoners taken
When the day is done
No flag, no uniform
Ever stopped the bullet from a gun

Out in the fields
The fighting has begun
Out on the streets
They're falling one by one
Out from the skies
A thousand more will die each day
Death is just a heartbeat away

There's no communication
No one to take the blame
The cries of every nation
They're falling on deaf ears again

Out in the fields
Out in the fields
They're falling one by one
Out in the fields
No flag has ever stopped
The bullet from a gun

Death is just a heartbeat away
Out in the fields
A heartbeat away
Out in the fields
Death is just a heartbeat away
Out in the fields
A heartbeat away
Out in the fields

In the fields
The fighting has begun
Out on the streets
They're falling one by one
Out from the skies
A thousand more will die each day

OUT!

The song is 30+ years old, and Nik still sounds like he did back in the '80s. I say good on him!

Cloak and Dagger
Nik Kershaw

You may never get to wander
along the corridors of power
where the files tell your story
beneath the bell that keeps it's secret by the hour
we wanna know what's it's got to say.

we know what you're doing
we know what you've got
we know how you got it
but we don't talk a lot

and everything's so
cloak and dagger
our future in their hands
promises of promised lands
cloak and dagger
our world behind closed doors
and what they have is mine and yours

we give you bits and pieces
to keep you happy and fat
we know the things that matter
but we don't talk about that
mums the word...
