Would love to here advise on drip systems as I'm considering them for other crops. Thanks
Well I can give you a simple run down for like a 12 plant set up. We grow with coco coir/perlite at a 1:1 ratio in 2 gallon pots covered in clay pebbles.
You need for indoor:
- Reservoir: trash can, rain water barrel, anything that you would drink from that holds 10+ gallons
- Submersible water pump or sump pump depending on amount of plants needing to be fed
- 1/2 tubing preferably in black or a dark color
- Drippers on 1/4 line
- Aquarium bubbler to give oxygen to fertilizer and water
- Timer programmable to the minute or second
- Ph and EC/TDS/PPM meter
- Oil drain pans or something to catch the run off
- Wet dry shop vacuum for the run off
For outdoor:
- Same stuff as above or the below
- Water hose timer(some have rain sensors)
- DIY irrigation kit from Amazon
This is a pretty rough list because the more you spend the more solid your set up becomes allowing multiple fertilizer feeds a day. The whole premise, if growing in pots, is to water until a nice amount of run off comes out the bottom allowing you to purge salt build up and bring fresh oxygen/nutrients to the roots on a regular basis.
For my personal grow I am watering 3x day by the end of the second week, increased to 5 for two weeks during flowering, and back to 3 for the rest. I have two lines per pot that run for 2 minutes in a 2 gallon pot. The best set up will be what works for you because I am cheap and didn't need anything too fancy I spent like $40 altogether but you can get incredibly creative with trial and error.
The meters are to monitor how much nutrient is contained in your reservoir combined with your water source(rain, tap, distilled, reverse osmosis) so that you can keep a handle on deficiencies and stuff.
If you want some links to some diy irrigation systems by cannabis growers, mostly indoor, I can message you. Any questions just ask as the irrigation it simply knowing where everything goes and how long to water while heat, humidity, lightning, and air circulation are harder.
There is also three blue mat irrigation system that uses electronic stakes that constantly monitor and water but it's pricey and doesn't allow enough control.
