I've seen plenty of loitering. I've been the loiterer that was asked to leave plenty of times. But nobody ever called the cops, and I wasn't humiliated over it. That shit isn't ok. We talk about normalizing abuse so much, but hey let's just keep letting the cops do it to us! That makes no sense.
where is this so called abuse by the police? i hate having to defend the police, but they didnt do anything wrong here.

loitering is against the law. just because you werent caught or didnt have the police called doesnt make it legal. it simply means you got away with it. regardless, these guys had the opportunity to leave without being ticketed when the police asked them to leave. they refused. what else could you ask the police to do?

It's abuse by extension. And I don't believe in the excuse of people just doing their jobs. I'm pretty sure that's how fascism feeds and grows stronger. The point is, if the cops don't have a real case they can prosecute, they should let you go. That's their actual job. To arrest and *convict* criminals.

I just see this as some manager with too much time on their hands. People just use the cops to be their bullying force. And if people want to defend that shit go ahead. Can't wait till it happens to you though. See how you feel when you are handcuffed like any other scrub.

Some white feminists can be racist and/or colorist too. So do not be fooled, even if they are SJWs.
The Starbucks in Santa Monica's 3rd Street Promanade can only be accessed by putting money in the slot on the door. That is how most things work in densely populated (locals and tourists) Los Angeles county. People of all colors have obviously made it necessary. Facilities are for patrons-- how unfortunate that so little respect is given, apparently nationwide, to that small fact.

There is more danger in being quick to judge without all the facts, than assuming guilt simply because it is a possibility. Because the truth is that anything is possible.

i understand the 'doing their job' idea, and the cops have better things to do. but they were summoned to the scene and, according to the info i heard, asked them to leave the premises (private property) peacefully so they wouldnt have to arrest them. i think that was fair.
as far as the manager is concerned, we can argue that she didnt need to take it to the next level with the police and just let it go since they werent causing a commotion, but we cannot argue that it was not her right to do so as manager of the store. maybe shes an asshole, maybe, as a female, she felt threatened by two men, or maybe she was on a power trip as manager. the cops simply enforced the law.

and how do we know that these two black loiterers refused to listen to her because they were not anti-white, male misogynists?
only the far left would do this instead of looking at the basic facts.

Let me ask a question. If I open my front door, and put a sign in front that says come on in! Can I get everyone busted for trespassing? By the letter of the law, I guess I can. But that makes no sense. How can those 2 guys trespass somewhere they were invited into? What I'm saying is, the law they were enforcing is bogus anyway.

There should be more criteria for what trespassing is. Or that's just an abuse of the law

wait, aero, youre confusing trespassing and loitering. w./help from wiki-ciapedia:
Loitering is the act of remaining in a particular public place for a protracted time without any apparent purpose.
trespassing is unlaw entry on to the land of another.

if a person is invited into the home/property, then they cannot be charged with trespassing. so if ones roommate or even another family member invites someone over, the police cannot remove this person for trespassing. i knew of a situation like that.

It doesn't matter what law. The point is 2 minutes isn't loitering or trespassing.

Yes, but there is no reason to think this white feminist is racist, since in the past she has shown herself to be non-discriminatory. It's only because the people she called the cops on were black that racism was even introduced into the story.

This is why we need a moratorium on the word. It will force people to accept that white people can actually have other motivations beside racism.

The main purpose of a "business" is establishing a conducive place and atmosphere in which to do said business. Despite the accommodations, the main concern is being there to conduct business. Hence the phrases, "You have no business here" and "No Loitering." Face it. These guys didn't need a Starbucks. They proved that themselves. They needed a library. You can hang out there for free all day long no worries...
"hurry up and buy!" that is just the standard rule lol

Aren’t overpriced coffee shops meant to loiter in? Any time I find myself in one I see a bunch of people on MacBooks like they’re in their living rooms.
well if they bought something.... if not, I think it is a standard thing for the people to be asked to leave..... some coffee shops will not care, some will.... i do think they have the prerogative to ask people to leave

It's more of a misunderstanding than it was racism. Still no one HAD to be arrested but it WAS their choice. It's a collision of dumb circumstances. It happens at times.

I would like you and @mecca to tell me if you really feel like "2 minutes isn't trespassing" when those same men walk into your living room, uninvited, and sit on your couch and refuse to leave.

They provide that space for their customers.

Its private property-- not a public park or library that's been created for-- you know... the public-- to enjoy, at no expense. I believe they're funded with taxpayer's money. I'm amazed that some people are not understanding such a basic thing like this.

A Starbucks is different from my home though.
Starbucks and your home are both private property. Do you believe that property owners should be forced to provide accommodations to anyone, even when they don't respect their rights, which are protected by law? Sounds like you do.

You're comparing random guys walking into my house and trying to stay there with people who spend a little too much time in a Starbucks and it's an inaccurate comparison regardless of the law.

I don't really care about this Starbucks situation, I think everything was blown out of proportion.

You are totally distorting the scenario we are talking about.

A person is supposed to walk into a store like Starbucks. That's the whole point of having a storefront business! How can you defend something that is obviously bullying? If you are playing devils advocate that's fine. But I don't think this situation needs that. We shouldn't enable bullying. Even if it makes us seem weak.
