Ariana Grande just released her new single “No Tears Left to Cry” along with the music video. First of all, the promo for this single was all about rainbows and everything - images, words - was upside down. Pretty weird when you know what we know, but nothing too crazy so I didn’t think too much about it. Until I watched the video and saw this. By the way, she is sitting on the ceiling in this scene. The entire video is very distorted. Also - notice the 2 random pictures of mazes. I have never seen Ariana with such blatant symbolism so I’m spooked. What do you think?

Keep in mind, she is sitting on the damn ceiling. That’s f*cking creepy. I’m new, can we say bad words here?
If you take someone young, beautiful and talented (yet filled with a desire for wealth and fame and prepared to "do what it takes" to get it).

If you then give them as willing servants to an industry with more money than it can count, that cares nothing for the people it uses us and replaces, and seems relentlessly committed to grinding out the same messages and themes...

...you end up with the "entertainment" industry we have today!

Me - I'd rather read a book ;-)

I understand what you are thinking but would this be the right place for free thinking if you can't speak free? Talk like the fuck you want
There are no bad words, there's just political correctness. Or in other words: adaptation.

Didn't see the video but watching the pictures these words come in my mind: android, cosmetic surgery, multiple personality.

The picture where she is picking a different face reminds me of a scene from the movie "Return to Oz" which was supposed to be the sequel to "The Wizard of Oz" but was much more creepy. There is a scene where the witch Mombi takes Dorothy into this walk-in closet where she can pick a different head. I always wondered how close this adaptation was to the original sequel in the Wizard of Oz series, so I took this as an opportunity to look into it.

Just as I suspected the original sequel by Frank Baum does not seem to include anything about the witch having a closet with different heads, which could clearly relate to having alter personalities. The story is only 97 pages and it could be compared with the original Grimm's fairy tales in as far as the writing style. It is slightly dramatized, somewhat poetic story about an encounter with a witch and the restoration of Ozma. I only briefly looked over the story, but the film adaptation seems very liberally altered in comparison.

It is already well known that "The Wizard of Oz" was used in programming. It wouldn't be surprising that the sequel would become more specific to the function. The movie was released in 1985, and it is possible to consider that the theme of alternate faces or heads is a continuing thread in entertainment that is intentional and serves a specific function.

Here is a clip of the scene from the movie I am talking about.

Other than the part with the multiple faces, I didn't think the video was creepy per se. I actually kind of liked the upside down imagery.

In a recent interview with Fader and Time magazine, she says some interesting things. Sorry this is messy but still interesting.

( on choosing to sing Somewhere Over the Rainbow for the Manchester Benefit Concert )
“” The song was her grandpa’s favorite, she says, and she would sing it to him at home when she was a little girl with an abnormally powerful voice. “He would always tell me to sing it in my concerts. He would always say, ‘You know what you should end with? “Over the Rainbow.”’ “”

“” On “Get Well Soon,” she traces her way through the intimate corners of an anxiety attack. “Girl what’s wrong with you? / Come back down.” Eventually, she sings herself back to stability. “”

TIME magazine:
“” On another song, “Get Well Soon,” her vocals are interwoven in dense layers of sound, creating an otherworldly effect. “It’s like I’m talking to all of my thoughts in my head,” she says, “and they’re singing back to me.” “”

“” Although she had struggled with anxiety in the past, she says, “I never opened up about it, because I thought that was how life was supposed to feel.” What, specifically, was making her anxious? She shakes her head. It’s hard to talk about. “”
